    Your videos have been a great crash course in DIY (more or less) micro hydro power for single dwelling. I'm planning to build an Earthship in the years to come and you've shared some excellent knowledge with me that will help immensely! Thank you! Can't wait to see it completed.

    Very awesome job on the power house.. Very tight and professionally installed. I wouldn't have expected anything less that perfection on this project and you have delivered amazingly. It hit almost 80 degrees today in the North Georgia mountains .. Unseasonably warm but we didn't break the record that occurred in the 80's. As always, I'm thrilled to see yet another video in your series. This is a great documentary of your progress that I share with other like minded people all the time. Keep up the good work.. I look very forward to the next video. Your anxiously awaiting viewer .. Joel

      Joe Banker Joel, Its been a long road, but I'm seeing light at the end of the tunnel at this point. Still lots to do and explain. Wiring, Switches, Breakers, Moving the Turbine/Generator, Power Drive Train Installation, Sheave Alignment, Belt Guards, Load Management, Shunt Loads, Supplemental Water Diversion, Control Systems and more. I'll just keep plugging away. Good to know you are enjoying it. Makes the effort to share the learning more rewarding. Thanks for the kind words and encouragement.

      I just got here this evening. I'll be starting the next phase of work this weekend. It'll be a few weeks until I get the next installment up. Thanks for watching!

    We did a small prototype test using an old "PowerSpout" a couple of months ago.. It was mostly a learning curve project to see what we could produce with minimal effort and not taking anywhere close to the potential flow given the year round rushing creek and head .. Our simply attempt basically ended up producing enough electricity to encourage a full blown project such as yours.... I just have a small cabin ..well . It's a rough shack back in the woods and way off grid. Watching your project unfold makes me dream bigger and actually plan on building a larger comfortable cabin back in the woods ones of these days..

      Joe Banker Cool. Our house was built partially with power from the spring fed system. Thats back when the flow was much higher. The portion of property with the creek on it was always intended to be for a bigger system. Once done we should be able to heat the house year round with it and run whatever else we can dream up. Having abundant capacity is really nice. Wish I had access to sell excess to the grid, but then I wouldn't be deep in the nature. If you have any questions about your project, I'm all ears. Once you get into this, you become a "Hydrohead" as it is addictive and you get hooked. @@danny123456315 What "it", the music or the narration style? ;) Just curious for obvious reason of unspecified object of critique. :) Also, hope you can watch videos in general reasonably comfortably despite the impaired hearing. :)

    Surplus Center is a great place to get some good stuff, I think they have the part missing and belts, fitting, etc...Price cannot be beaten. Look it up. most is quality stuff, some is not, use good judgement. Very fast shipping. I wish you would instal a ball valve between your gauge and manifold. This allows easy replacement of gauge and can be turned off and drain gauge. use only when pressure reading is needed and thus increases gauge life.

      Rob, glad you're into the series. I just arrived at the property this evening to get started on moving the system. I've been sick this month and that delayed my trip to get this going. The next video installment is coming in a few weeks. First I have to shoot it. Sorry this is taking so long, nobody could be more anxious to see it getting done than myself. Hang in there, it's coming...

    about how much roughly did this cost?
    Plus what kind of permits does it require?

    • @mrhydrohead
      @mrhydrohead  8 років тому +14

      +angie underhill In 1994 I invested 25K in the initial system vs. 140K to run power to the property and take on monthly bills. This expense also provided gravity pressurized domestic spring water and a trout pond. In the subsequent 19 years with the first installation, We produced about 145,000 KWH. The last few years saw a huge reduction in water from my springs so I undertook to upgrade the system and move it to the creek source. Costs so far have run around 56K for the upgrade, but that will bring a huge increase in the viability of the power(100+KWH per day) and I'll be able to charge a vehicle, heat the house, and have a jacuzzi for excess power.
      Permits vary by location, but I secured water rights with the state water court and because its "run of the stream" non consumptive use of water in a non navigable creek with no fishery fully over land I own there were no other complications on this system. Easy situation is unique and merits research.

      The intake is fully screened with no possibility for that to occur. The purpose is to access power without doing harm.

  • @jackt6112
    @jackt6112 5 років тому

    I don't understand how you keep it from getting clogged. Poncelet wheels I get, but not something enclosed like this.

    • @mrhydrohead
      @mrhydrohead  5 років тому

      For the weir intake the self cleaning Coanda screen installed in part 18 ua-cam.com/video/sixorfYKSwI/v-deo.html works quite well to keep any debris from clogging the intake and in Winter the water just flows any snow or ice that accumulates. Thanks for watching

  • @Migueldeservantes
    @Migueldeservantes 9 років тому

    yup! that is what happen when one have to depend on sales people that truly don't care about its customers! I would assure you, if I was in your shoes I would have made that piece my self! and.... probably would never use that vendor..

    • @mrhydrohead
      @mrhydrohead  9 років тому

      Migueldeservantes I agree with your comment. If I owned the company that did such a poor job of filling my order (3 times) I wouldn't want to have a sales person like that working for me. Although he was cordial, his attention to detail was abysmal. It ended up delaying the completion of the installation in the last season. All over a $15 part. Unfortunately, I don't have the tooling to make the part and it was standard off the shelf stuff. Just a bad choice of supplier based on best price and a bad choice at that.

    • @Migueldeservantes
      @Migueldeservantes 9 років тому

      ***** Well lucky you that in your case it was actually possible to find the correct person for the correct project... In my case I have some time to work really long days in the geometry "In 3D" them have a fight with Mach... and one of my cam programs to make them talk to one an other, and them one month later I have a part to sell or use... so Congrats, Lucky you..Don't get me wrong! if I find any one that need something that they need.. and I can actually help a brother out of a tight spot, with something that I have in stock. I don't have no problem.. but the adds to find what you need. and the correct person are not very high!
