      Pre flights would be done first thing in the morning and aircraft prepped for rapid start each day.

    Having spent some considerable time with the Chinook Force I can honestly say that was some phenomenal airmanship. The medical team obviously did everything they could and still do for the people that need them so desperately, total respect to every single man and women who so valiantly serve our country. Thanks for sharing this excellent video, sad as it is. RIP, Lest We Forget. I know I never will.

    I served 23 years in the Infantry, getting out in Dec 2013 and am proud of all the British forces especially those who come running to save life. Without their expertises many would have not made it. And as for the people of Wooton Bassett, god bless you for the respect shown to the fallen.

    I left the British Army 50 years ago in 1969.and every time I see the lads there I feel that I should be there with them. Almost as if I'm letting them down because I'm not there. In my heart I will always be there. God bless them all.

    Thank you for flying these Missons, as a ex infantry soldier its amazing to see how much you do behind the seen. This was my war. Lost friends and a family member in Afghanistan. It doesn't matter if it was a right war or not. Some of the best of my generation paid the ultimate sacrifice, or now live with mental wounds or physical wounds. The going down of the sun we will remember them. We will remember them.

    I served with the MERT Team in the summer of 2008 and helped with the casualties in the back of the chinook just a horrific experience. I have total respect for the medics and doctors in combat. I'll never forget are loss. Are service men and women fought brave as hell over there RIP to the fallen

    Can you imagine the feeling of being in deep trouble alone in the desert and seeing that someone has sent a helicopter to save you.

    First off... the entire crew of the Chinook are completely "Badass!"
    I cried from the moment they took off to the moment they touched down and off loaded their wounded compatriot!
    Then again I cried at the amazing show of love and respect by the citizenry lining the streets to show respect "too the fallen".
    Awesome video... amazing.
    My go and wipe my eyes now, I'm a wreck!

    I was 20/21 when I was over there in 2010/11. The private also has the same name of my step father. What a video to watch. I haven't even finished watching it all at the time of writing this. I see the top comment though. :(
    I've always told everyone that the medevac pilots/crew are at the VERY TOP of the totem.

    This pulled my heartstrings hard, couldn’t help shedding some tears seeing our lads coming home like that. So glad we’re finally pulling out of that hellhole but I don’t want their fight to have been for nothing.. seeing how the taliban are on the counter offensive already makes me sick. Salute to all the heroes who’ve served in any war, we wouldn’t be here living as we do without you.

    It's been 12 years since my first Afghan tour and I thought I was over things. That Wootton Basset segment brought a lot of memories back though and tears to my eyes. Massive respect to the RAF pilots and people of Wootton Bassett

    Tomorrow is Remembrance Sunday. It shouldn't be a thing for our soldiers to give up their life so we can have better one. Our soldiers are second to none on the battlefields, the dedication and skill of the two pilots in this video is immense, some how they flew a chinook like it was a fighter jet. Lest we forget.

    I am nearly 60yrs old. Watching these brave young men and women brings me near to tears. The troops that show such professionalism and such a dedication to each other deserve nothing but the greatest of RESPECT.

    yeah seen this one aswell, they casevaced Pvt Chris Gray, he died just after they landed back a base. He was the 55th Soldier killed in Afghanistan

    Here we are in 2021, the reality of the conflict in Afghanistan coming to an end, a result and ending that we predicted when our soldiers first went there. So many young men and women have given their lives over the past two decades, such a waist. But, if we able to give them a second chance in life, they’d do it all again, because they were with the best mates and camaraderie that one could ever wish for in life. A friendship that still kindles after death, RIP

    And the saddest thing of all is we left the battlefield and not having achieved anything in 20 years of bitter fighting. BTW, I think the British and Canadians are better in supporting communication with locals then then gung-ho US-troops... This is the end of a tragedy, the next there is going to start all over again - RIP comrades in arms, you will never be forgotten - peace is only for the dead and the kind of heart - We didn't find either there...

    no, they are not allowed in front line roles such as infantry, royal marine or RAF Regiment, but they serve on the frontline in roles such as medics, IED/bomb diffusers, helicopter medic crew, pilots etc...

    Chinook flying back alone is not really unprotected. It still has 2 side MGs and a rear mounted MG. It’s not meant to be a gunship but it can defend itself if need be.

    Chinook pilot - we can ever go slow and steady or fast and low
    Medic - faster the better
    (Chinook pilot knowing the armed escort won’t be able to keep up knowing protection has gone and without a second thought)
