"When you leave this earth for a better home someday The only thing you'll take is what you gave away..." One of the greatest lines ever written in Any song.
Grandpa was one of a type of country singers. There is nobody that could ever duplicate his singing and banjo picking. Grandpa was one of the superstars on Hee Haw. The show would have never been that popular without him (and Stringbean). R.I.P.
I love this one it really hits my heart with what I'm going through in my life God bless me my family n friends n keep all of us safe provide for us with what we all need also I pray for all those who need you Amen 🙏
0:07 Falling leaves that lie scattered on the ground, The birds and flowers that were here can't be found. All his friends that he once had are not around. They're all scattered like the leaves upon the ground. 0:37 Some folks drift along through life and never thrill, To the feeling that a good deed brings until, It's too late and they are ready to lie down, There beneath the leaves that's scattered on the ground. 1:20 Lord, let my eyes see every need of every man, Make me stop and always lend a helping hand, Then when I'm laid beneath that little grassy mound, There'll be more friends around than leaves upon the ground. 1:50 To your grave there's no use taking any gold, You cannot use it when it's time for hands to fold, When you leave this earth for a better home someday, The only thing you'll take is what you gave away.
He often had another first verse: By the graveside of a soon forgotten man. On this cold November morning here I stand. Thinking of the friends he lost thru love of gold. It's a story that too often has been told.

This song takes me home and teaches a lesson we could all learn

There beneath the leaves that's scattered on the ground.
