I find that if using a phone, put a piece of glass over the document to get it flat. If you see the lights in the room, try changing the camera angle. That just works for me because an app I use does not require the camera to be perfectly centered above the document and level to it. It finds the edges of the pages with good accuracy and then you get a fairly good scan nearly every time. Also some phones have scanning in the camera app. Look for more options or something like that and it will be there somewhere if it has it. My Motorola Edge has it. If you want to know if you have it, look, I don't know what your phone is like. It is not on all of them and then you may need an app or Google Drive to do it instead. Really, I don't do it with the phone all the time. I have a document scanner I use whenever possible.

Other than it removes a step (cut-and-paste) from taking a photo and editing, what is the point of scan? Are the files smaller than a photo?
