@@eliemoses I also love how Dr. Melfi can sense his sadness and knew there was something else affecting his reaction to the airline ticket arrest. He loved Puss and can't process his true feelings about what he did and can't talk about it to Melfi because he can be arrested for murder. So he's just sad.
You are the only one who recognized the Tony and Sylvio communication at Pussy’s house. “Who wants to go buy a boat” was code for I found the wire. Otherwise he would have bailed on the plan. That’s why Sylvio looks so shocked/dissapointed. Great reactions man, and so young to pick up so much. It took me multiple viewings to catch everything. You catch most things on initial viewing.
“Our true enemy has yet to reveal himself” rewatch that scene from episode 1 and the director focuses right on Big P in the frame. It’s all foreshadowed even before we knew he was a rat
27:48 Keep your eye on Tony as the camera pans up to the front seat. The guy is just miserable. Dreaming of his family having a sweet moment to waking up feeling sick, knowing he's gonna have to take out his best friend. Just a great detail.
The talking fish/Pussy mentions that the two fish next to him are asleep. "Luca Brasi sleeps with the fishes" was a famous line from the Godfather. One of the rival families sends a fish to the Corleones wrapped in Luca's bulletproof vest. He was their enforcer. They immediately recognize it as a Sicilian message - "Luca Brasa sleeps with the fishes" (i.e., he's been whacked).
I would have seen “Restless” a few weeks after this episode of the Sopranos and I’ve seen both episodes many times since then, but never made the connection. Really enjoying the journey through this series with you. 👍
@@eliemoses90% of people I’ve seen react don’t notice that Tony realizes that pussy was talking like an informant, explaining the scam to the feds. Bravo lmaoo
The second-best dream sequence of the whole series, IMO. There's one better that's spread over two episodes down the road, though I think most Sopranos fans would disagree.
After all the talk about colleges and visiting colleges in other States, Meadow chooses Columbia - an Ivy League school but also a half-hour drive away from where they live. For the writers, this conveniently means that she'll be around for future episodes. But for the character Meadow, this means - I guess - that she makes a conscious decision to stay in Soprano World. We know she had lots of other options.
it seems like it’s “food” poisoning but it’s the head of all panic attacks, notice how the first thing he said is that it’s all a big nothing… and with the brain being in such a panic mode it sent those signals to the rest of the body to do the same… that’s also why he was mostly fine as soon as he realised and admitted it to himself… and had another one at Pussy’s house and why Sil got sick on the boat… they’ve been close since playing together as kids…
I am one of the only people I find in the comment sections that think Jimmy was never the rat. He was always a red herring. It was never confirmed and any evidence towards him doing it is just speculation, nothing really proves it. Sure he said omg, but could be he realizes he's they are about to kill him and nothing he can do can save him. His attitude against the cops when he got arrested makes me feel like he wasn't gonna comply. He got out quick, who knows why. Maybe cause he decided to snitch but who knows. Maybe they let him go cause they knew he wouldn't rat over a gun charge. Pussy was pushing H and apparently got caught before that incident. It's very hard to put a finger on it all. I don't think Macasian(howevwr you spell that) was lying cause of his debt. I feel like the maddam made it clear he wouldn't have a problem with Tony cause he said if you were straight with him, he was with you and you knew where you stood. Also, pretty sure the fish thing was just a reference to "sleeping with the fishes" not really anything to do with the shark reference. Imo
You're right, Jimmy was not the rat. The show never bothered to point that out later, but yeah, the fact Pussy was the rat means they 100% whacked the wrong guy (Jimmy). It wasn't BOTH of them. Tony just decided that the corrupt cop mistook one fat guy (Jimmy) for another (Pussy), because he didn't want to believe it was Pussy and his paranoia led him astray.
Interesting bringing up Restless, that episode aired only a month and a half after Funhouse. Buffy season 4 and Sopranos season 2 overlapped. I love Tony's dream sequences in this show very much, it's really the only way we get an unfiltered view of his psyche. ADDENDUM: I just saw you looked this up at the very end hehe.
Wow - you're really intuitive on the insight! I just thought of the jacket parallel to Jackie right before you did .. but seen the full series several times. Followed u thru BB and BCS and was about to recommend the Sopranos .. and bingo!
I think Pussys last words..."can I sit down tony" was to do with the fact that he wasn't a "stand up guy" in mafia world when it came to doing the time for heroin charge...he instead chose to cooperate with the feds. Hence he wasnt a stand up guy and asked to sit down.
I believe season 2 is a bit lacking in focus, and it has to spend a decent amount of time cleaning up season 1 and establishing new characters. However, the latter half of the season in particular has a handful of all time best episodes. And the final two episodes bring the season to a worthy conclusion that’s both surprising and makes sense. So, it is one of my favorite seasons. “Funhouse” might be my favorite episode of the series.
“all my enemies are smoked” and it cuts to Pussy, and he’s the only one who wasn’t talking in the first one… also, that after effects explosion when he blew himself up though 😂 it’s amazing how it’s evolved since… and that shitty one is probably only in the free version now 😂
So where did Tony catch food poisoning from?? Artie’s or the Indian restaurant?? Answer... neither. He didn’t have food poisoning at all. He had the mother of all panic attacks. His intestines purging & fever (& fever dreams) was all caused by his psychological illness. The tip off is what he said after his 1st “fever dream”... muttering “life is a big nothing”... etc. Just as Pussy’s backache was psychological... so was Tony’s “food poisoning”.
Bro your eye for details is supernatural..."pussy was staring into the horizon into the ocean and then disappeared"....you literally spelt out the whole episode from that symbolism...this is the type of sopranos reaction that was missing on UA-cam....you're someone who can actually appreciate the art of this show and catch on to the details that most reactors don't see
One of my best breakdowns enjoy 😊😊😊

Yes. Every time I rewatch this episode I spend a few days listening to “Thru and Thru”.
Meadow is going to Columbia University in New York City, not Colombia home of Coca leaves lol.

No show makes dreams better than the Sopranos 👌
The fish in the dream is a nod to The Godfather: "Luca Brasi sleeps with the fishes."
and the known way to say it but it probably comes from there
Just a heads up - the slightly tilted camera angle (employed to denote or invoke unease and discomfort) is called a "dutch angle"
the remora also get their scraps and stuff but yah agreed with that analogy and well said mate
You were right about tony being a child thing...melfi told her psychiatrist same thing...."he can be such little boy sometimes".
I like Tony saying that he's proposing Chris to get his button. Because it's not Tony's decision; New York has to approve Chris for him to be made.
Comparing Buffy to Sopranos again! Please.
Love the comparison of Pus feeding off tony, never caught that connection!

"Four dollars a pound." I'm late to your channel. Playing catch up!
This episode and “Restless” aired just a month apart, by the way. Neither influenced the other.
It's fur from all the beasts they kill
it’s not snitch hair, it’s abused tortured slaughtered etc fellow animals but I’m also not saying anything because it’s 99-00, not nowadays

James Gandolfini was great at impersonating Tony Soprano whom I despise.
That mom is just awful. She's always crying about some bullshit and the way she does it is super fake and irritating.
