I can't get over how well the dialogue in this show is written. It's incredibly real and organic. Particularly the therapy scenes with Melfi.

I think this is one of the best “quiet” episodes of the show. Proof that this series doesn’t need violence or dramatic confrontations to offer the goods. The dialogue, acting, characterization, themes are strong enough.

I really love the violent bits (esp later in the show since it felt less "cartoony" like Jackie Jr's death)... But you're absolutely right and it makes me angry knowing we'll never get another drama like this.
An entire episode could have literally been centered only around mob wife drama or a character we all hate (most likely Janice or AJ) and I reckon I'd still be engrossed with all 45+ potential minutes it would showcase...
This show was filled to the absolute brim with talent from writers, actors, and virtually everything else. But at the same time? It was lightning in a bottle...
Hypothetically get the entire staff back (actors, writers, directors and all) and it would barely scratch our itch of some new iteration.
There really is a feeling/energy attached to this show and I still get it all these years later. Just wish it didn't come with the spirit crushing "black pill" that nothing will come this close again to fully coming near it.

@@Jimbow-sz9kh There have definitely been great shows that don’t lean on violence, action, cliffhangers, dramatic confrontations. Mad Men, Rectify, The Americans, Friday Night Lights (although that was more of a melodrama that had a lot of sentimentality), even The Wire. But I agree that TV dramas now are less about great characterization and dialogue and arcs and more about shocking the audience and twists/turns and instant gratification. The Sopranos was such a unique show in the sense that it had a lot of violence and dramatic confrontations and shocking moments (though very little “action”), but it didn’t constantly lean on things to satisfy the audience or in order to offer greatness.

Yep. The Sopranos didn't need cliffhangers or overused "how did I wind up in this situation" cold opens...like a certain overrated show did

Elie, straight up I have to tell you how much I have been enjoying your content. I have watched several reactors for Sopranos and Breaking Bad, and yours have been the most enjoyable. For someone so young you have solid values. You offer very interesting commentary, and have been surprisingly cogent with your predictions. The speed with which you binge is impressive. I’m so glad that I caught you in the middle of your Sopranos run. Look forward to racing to the finale with you. Keep up the great work. Curious what show(s) you have planned after Sopranos?

I don't think I've ever seen a reactor laugh or even slightly chuckle when Tony tells Melfi he doesn't know what the heck she's saying by speaking gibberish back to her, lolol. I swear, me and my friend were dying when we saw that.

That's a pin, not an earring. Svetlana kept the pin because it was expensive, not because she was being sweet. Svetlana was clear with Tony about not wanting to be his mistress. She wasn't interested in propping him up during his moods and his rages.

The woman on the stairs reminded me of Mrs. Bates from Psycho. Before we had Tony as Napolean, then Carmine talking earlier in the episode about King Louis XIV and "Versales" and then the episode closes with Tony on the balcony of the
Fontainebleau Hotel in Miami. What does it all mean?

Melfi should have passed Tony along to a behaviorist in season 3. He even agreed to it. It's understandable that, after she had been attacked, she felt safer keeping him around. But that is when it felt like his progress stalled. Although there is of course no guarantee that behavior therapy would have helped him either.

I feel like Tony is more of a bad patient than Melfi is a bad therapist.

    • @liteflightify
      @liteflightify 7 місяців тому +1

At the end of the day, you can only help someone as much as they want to be helped. Melfi has let Tony off the hook a few times. She would have been officially let him go as a patient. While Tony is unwilling to do the hard work.

Get ready for some bizarre language from Carmine Jr.
He tells stories attempting to sound smart but they are usually just word salads that have nothing to do with anything. And he’s the king of malaprops. I think Tony calls him Brainless the Second. 😂

the mention of the steaks has everything to do with a fellow animal’s death, we’ve all got loved ones
and bobby jr is right, there’s nothing to be afraid of even if it’s a haunting, most are nice especially loved ones, even if they weren’t when physically alive… but you’re right, he was being brave for his sister, good brother
mate what, it’s ok to be racist if he’s engaging with the other kids? wtf. no. just no. better he shut the fark up and not engage than be racist…
ah back when more people thought the ouija board is a game… some still do hey… and they didn’t even close the “door” and cleansing afterwards with a burning sage stick… stupid kids… hope someone did afterwards after shooting but somehow I doubt it…
and for the record, the youngest ones are even close to the other side, back Home, than AJ is…
and that’s so random and ace that you just got recognised in real life! and he better watch! :p
and I like that dream scene, I don’t see it as scary as nothing happens it’s just interesting, and that’s a beautiful property and nature’s music too, and nice hotel too

I can't stand Janice. I actually think her taking advantage of Bobby's wife passing away thru his vulnerability was actually one of the more sinister things in the show, even worse than people getting wacked. Just something about it felt so wrong.
