    These are VERY good Vises. I used one at a garage i worked at, put it thru hell and it lived a full life before i got to use it.

    It appears that the paint is causing it to bind up.
    That vise is a hoss! If you break that one I will never get into an argument with you.
    Good job on the rebuild Ross. What a beast!

      @RossOnTheLand  2 роки тому

      Haha! No kidding.. if I break this one then I have bigger problems! I think you are right about the paint. It still binds at full extension, but understandable as I don't think vises get that much use that far out. That might have been why the springs got mashed in the first place. I'll have to watch for that. Thank you for watching and have a great weekend

    They make such nice vices!!! The fact that parts are readily available for even the old ones says a lot in my opinion!! I don’t know what colour they come from the factory … but for the record … all my (Record) vices are blue! 😜 this is the first time I’m seeing one of these apart Ross - very cool! Nice trick with the welding wire! Don’t you wish you had a vice to hold stuff still while you’re working on it 😝 Great step by step video Ross!

      Haha! Garden Tractor Boy sent me the colour code for the exact match and although I don't think I'll do a full restore, it's definitely awesome to be able to get parts. Funny thing is my other little blue vise is a Record as well haha. Thanks for the positive comments, thanks for watching. Have a great weekend.

      It's called BS381C 110 Roundel Blue or Record Vice Blue It's called Record Blue because of the vices and it's also called Roundel Blue because it's the same blue colour as the blue in the RAF red white and blue roundel.

    My comment appears to have disappeared, it could be because I put a link in it. I will email you the link. Great job on the vice, it is as good as new now. I do not think the top and top of the side on the slider should be painted and that could be why you struggled to get it out. I believe the colour should be a darker shade of blue, that is the link I will email you. Thank you very much for the shout out. I tend to find my sisters toothbrush works very well too for these types of jobs lol

      I think you are right! I got the email comment and the link, but the YT Studio app deleted it. Thank you very much for the help.

    Great 👍 Job Ross!!! Looks like it will be around for another 100 years. The best vises are the old heavy ones in my opinion. Have a great day!!!

      Thank you I am surprised how simple they are, just remember to put the rear rod support in before inserting the front spring retaining split pin. :). Next 2 days are nice, then a full week of rain is in the forecast unfortunately. Thank you for watching. Have a good weekend

    The question as to whether it was originally blue, the inside of the slide and the bottom look to be the original paint, which is a darker more navy blue. The top of the slide and wider parts of the jaws (not the replaceable parts) would not have been painted on the top or sides either.

    • @RossOnTheLand
      @RossOnTheLand  2 роки тому

      Ya, I believe it was repainted at some point, and not very well :) there was also paint on the sliders so that made working the vise harder. Thanks Ken!

    The sorts of repairs/restorations Bring a sense of nostalgia to me. They also harken back to a good time in America were people valued the things they had enough to repair them first. I think it is the height of irony that young people live in the “ use it and toss it“ culture and blame older folks for ruining everything by being wasteful. Good job on this video I liked it a lot - - it was simple and very American.

      Thanks Edward, I agree 100% and have been teaching my kid's how to fix rather than replace. It is unfortunate that manufactures build in implied obsolescence rather than robustness. I most definitely prefer the simple and we'll built over complexity.
