so blessed to grow up in the 80s
Absolutely outstanding band and Pat is one of the best singers of the last 50 years , wrote some brilliant songs, they rocked big style , still a favourite of mine to this day. Magic
Brilliant song, the 80s was the greatest.
What a time we had in the 80s, the music was a massive part of it, the diversity we had brilliant. This superb song a part of the excellent pop genre. We simply did not stop singing. 🎶👏👍
Genius outstanding performance and I am old enough to remember seeing him on top of the pops as a tiny kid and adoring him them!
When those drums kick in it's just sublime. The singer's vibe is lovely, as well.
One of my favourite songs of all time and the album version is pure brilliance! :)
Possibly my favourite 80’s song!♥️
brilliant! one of the best songs from the 80s
Me and family and my niece was on holiday at hillside holiday Village at Aberdyfi in Wales at the time of this song in July 1987 which I look back with fondness and joy. Best holiday ever for me.
Pure class, absolutely luvved this tune!!!! Happy memories X
My favourite band. I was 17 when this came out. Still listening to them today.
I was 18, great times and very missed. Cheers
Singing LIVE which was rare back then...shows you how good they are !
This was very likely a lip synchronization, it sounds too similar to the album version. There sort of performances were popular then.
@@DatamasterCorporation If that is lip-sync'd he never missed a cue. Ever seen them live? Pat Kane is absolutely spot on, one of the great singers of the modern era! the backing track may be prerecorded, but I think Pat is live
@@GaryWaldrom I would like to see them live. Not doubting his talent, but these televised performances were always studio playbacks.
Love this song so much. Pat your so cool ❤
Top Man suit. We all had one... or two.
Jon Lynch - if I was teleported back to 1987, I’d have the same suit :-)
When I look fondly back at the 80s it's not at Aha, queen, abba or the soundtrack to dirty dancing 😩zzzzzz ITS TRACKS LIKE THIS 🎶🎵🎶🎵🔥
One of my all-time favourite bands.
Pop at its finest!! Awesome song, memories!! Xxx.
Got tickets for their 40th anniversary show next year
Damned they were good, funky and grooving!
awe... haven't heard this since the 80's back in mother Glasgow !
Huuuge gap between today's style and music and the 80's - best decade ever.
Huge gap even between say this and even year 2000 lol. I can’t believe even year 2000 is over 20 years ago 😳 the 80’s has a lot of great quality music. Music these days is mostly cover versions and samples of old tunes & the new original stuff there’s not that much of that at all lol.
My God, i remember this great tune from 1987. , we were watching it on MUSIC BOX in
EX Yugoslavia!
So many thanks to Greg and Pat for this wonderful groove. Thanks also to the geezers who backed you up.
Too funky for that ‘Clouds’ place when everyone was too Indy. You were “too funky”. Awesome groove, must be amazing to do that with your brother. Hail Hail. No right to be white with that voice Paddy!
Soul ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Heard this on the radio yesterday - happy memories of the 80s ;o)
Top Of The Pops was the main chart music programme on BBC1 back in the day.
Finally. I can watch this
27 years ago at Jazzercize,my dear friend Lyn Harris and i at 16 would be dancing to this .x
Nice to see hue & cry in jaconellis cafe on maryhill rd ... still making good music well done ...
Oh I miss TOTP!! 🥰🥰
Yeah...me too. But i hate today’s music so maybe it’s just as well it’s not on anymore. Too much crap today that are all the same. That’s why I love the stuff from the 60s, 70s and 80s. 👌😎
Classic
Love this track and truth...
AIN'T-GONNA-COMB-MY-HAIR-NO-MORE!!! Both Slapheads now in 2012.
Joking aside, memorable number from the decade that fashion forgot. Ordinary Angel was another fine track of theirs. They played Darvel Town Hall (6 miles up the road from me) a few years back.
Cheers for posting.
Love this!
Ahhh the great 80's Chinos reapearance.
I used to picture Neil Kinnock singing this when I was at school, rather than see it purely as a breakup song, I thought it was political, the Labour, etc. Then I find out today it was about Thatcher cutting free milk from schools, hence the great video where they get soaked in gungy plastery milk.
It's such a tune, sharp, jazzy, tight, passionate and Pat Kane looks and dresses like some of my school teachers which makes it even more nostalgic lol.
LOL.. The good ole Days eh/Aye, proper catchy/lively *TUNE* is this.🔥
Everyone wanted to be Mark King back then!
great!!!!
Nice!!!
Aw - amazing ..... still the same voice! x
At least 1 Night out at a weekend was a suit and tie affair without fail ..it's crazy to think how that changed a year later along with our attitudes at 18 my weekends were something else 🙌
Simon Bates has looked 64 years old his whole life
you cant beat youth
Looks like Burton's was having a sale that week.
Lmaro
Man I remember my dad buying clothes from Burtons lol haven’t heard that name in decades, thanks for the memory jolt lol
This clip was also seen playing out in that Dramarama episode that spawned Children's Ward... reaired during CITV's 30th anniversary Old Skool weekend.
HUE AND CRY SHOULD'VE DONE A DUET WITH THE B-52S!!!!!
cb is proud bhoys
Grichal1981, it's not out of sync on my computer. Bear in mind, this was a mimed performance so the performers lips won't always accurately sync with the voice!
In the 80s, everyone called the 70s the decade that fashion forgot. The 80s were a strong, OTT reaction to the downbeat feel of the 70s in both the UK and North America, and to the hippie look.
the 70s were drab and boring. pub rock, country rock with a large helping of prog rock thrown in for good measure. awful hair, flares and platform soles. the 80s were more open minded and harked back to the late 60s footloose and fancy free idealism, with a mixture of late 50s rocker look. not to mention the introduction of synthesisers and digital effects which helped to define the sound. it was the opposite of the 'dry' 70s.
Strangely we’re only one or two years away from the whole 70s revivalism trend (eg S-Express, Deee-Lite) which shows you how quickly a paradigm can shift!
I remember watching this. Then I got sick and ended up in hospital with appendicitis the next morning!
Pat Kane just sing a great tune !
He looks like he could be a big ole cuddle monster :)
Timeless
One catchy motherfucking song
HUE AND CRY: LABOUR OF LOVE LYRICS
You said, you recall about seven years ago now
You said, that you we're so tough
And I loved it, oh
Loved you for putting me down in a totally new way
Down with, the bad old, sad old days
(Get away now)
But now, too much pain for too little gain
And I feel like I'm gonna strike back right now
Gonna withdraw my labour of love
Gonna strike for the right to get into your heart, yeah
Withdraw my labour of love
Gonna strike for the right to get into your cold heart
Ain't gonna work for you no more
Ain't gonna work, for you no more
Ha, easy, I noticed you said it never was gonna be easy
But not this hard
You're so cold, so cold
The romance goes when the promises break
My mistake was to love you a little too much
Gonna withdraw my labour of love
Gonna strike for the right to get into your heart, yeah
Withdraw my labour of love
Gonna strike for the right to get into your heart, baby now
Withdraw my labour of love
Gonna strike for the right to get into your heart, yeah
Withdraw my labour of love
Gonna strike for the right to get into your cold heart
Ain't gonna work for you no more
Ain't gonna work, for you no more
I can't stand it, I said I just don't want it
Never gonna need it, anyway yeah
I can't stand it, I said I just don't want it
Never gonna need it, anyway
I don't want you, I don't need you
I don't need your tricks and treats
I don't need your ministration, your bad determination
I've had enough of you, and your super-bad crew
I don't need your, I don't need your
Pseudo-satisfaction baby
I can't stand it, I said I just don't want it
Never gonna need it, anyway yeah
I can't stand it, I don't want it
I don't need your pseudo-satisfaction baby
Withdraw my labour of love
Gonna strike for the right to get into your heart
Withdraw my labour of love
Gonna strike for the right to get into your heart
Withdraw my labour of love
Gonna strike for the right to get into your heart
Withdraw my labour of love
Gonna strike for the right to get into your cold heart
Ain't gonna work for you no more

Was common at the time; Sade's bassist wore it that high, and it's better on the wrist if the bassist wants to start slapping.
Song is actually about politics and more specifically the Margaret Thatcher era and the working class. Absolutely brilliant song and is without doubt their best work.
came out in 86
How high is that guys bass?!!
Isnt it a 8 strings funky base player ?
Mark king from Level 42 does the same...
Mr Off The Peg, ha ha . . .
@hueandcryarchive It looks ok now, maybe there was some glitch or something.
This song as great . Balearic as fuk. Love it
Great record....but I still laugh at the lead singer who touches the right hand side of his chest when he sings the bit about ''gonna fight for the right to get into your heart''.
I Just noticed 🤗
@@michellekourea275 Well you’re a woman Michelle! 😉
Can anyone name all of the other band members ?
Yeah, the fella with the sunglasses is giving it welly!
Who was the old bloke the compare looks like a old school teacher of mine haha>
MrSuitup100 Simon Bates was presenting and he would have been 41 here..
Simon Bates, oddly enough he looked like my media studies teacher, but he's only youngish here, maybe early 40s.
@@jubileebaby9787 Thxs Rik.

But a bloody good song anyway.
Hang on, I got married in a Burtons suit. . . . . .Well, Top Man. Same thing, but for the younger, more carefree man about town. Wonder if the divorce ratio for suits bought/marriages down the shitter was the same for both outlets. . . .
Looks a bit like Derek Trotter
I rememeber him sweating all over the stage, on this performance

Это поросто невебенно!!!
Simon Bates too old for the show at this stage. Cringy 'And I'm delighted that Hue and Cry have made it, with Labour of Love'
I don't think he was too old in years, more that he was a relic from the 60's and 70's and it affected his presenting style and attitude. Nowadays a 40-year old is considered youthful. I take your point, though.
He was nice, but out of touch with the young people. He would have looked out of place in 1989, or even the 90's because he dressed traditionally on every edition he presented.
@@JohnTaylorMusicClips53 Yeah I agree. He came from a different era. Still a young person physically but the helmet hair and the jacket say it all lol. He did seem genuinely happy for Hue & Cry.
@@davidfos84 Thanks, I'm youthful, hurrah!
Lead singer a tricky wee bastard - fancies himself as some kind of Dean Martin lounge lizard type. Ego's a funny thing...
The music and video are out of sync.
Instantly forgettable mediocre pap.
well I've never forgotten it lol
Clearly not as people are still listening to it nearly 40 years later, you tedious w@nkstain.
