COMBERMERE car meet for PRE-1990 cars | June 2024

June 2024's Cars & Caffeine at Combermere car meeting was for pre-1990 classic cars. Due to the meet's overwhelming popularity and the huge turnout of cars old and not-so-old at the previous gathering, the organisers decided to introduce an entry criteria for this one, in a bid to keep numbers more manageable especially given the finite amount of parking that is available outside the Old Piggery Cafe.
Pre-1990 cars (or at least those designed pre-1990) was the entry requirement for this one, and most likely it'll be set as post-1990 for a future meet (keep an eye on the Facebook page for more details).
As expected, fewer cars overall turned up, but as they were all of pre-1990 design and/or build, it actually made for a less frenetic, and (for us) more interesting assortment of cars to look at. It also seems to have had the effect of encouraging older cars that we've not seen at Combermere before to make the journey over, so hopefully that'll be a trend that continues when future pre-1990s meets are scheduled.
Highlights included a wonderfully oily-rag pre-war Riley Lynx, Daimler DB18, Morgan three-wheeler, a whisper-quiet two-tone Rolls-Royce plus a later Silver Shadow in red, an early De Tomaso Pantera, and a magnificent 1920s Crossley saloon. An Austin A35 that had just completed a pan-European road trip raising money for an air ambulance charity also made an appearance, as did many other fine old cars. It was also an opportunity to take our '40s pickup out for a run after a few issues last time out (see Royal Oak video for details!!).
