  • Just a quick comparison between the BC108 and NKT275 Sunface from Analogman. I love them both but I usually use the BC108.
    Check them out at www.buyanalogman.com/

    A fabulous demo! MANY Thanks! Surprised the 108 wasn't appreciably gainier. The 275 had a darker tone which worked great on the single note lines. I could live with either.

    I prefer BC108, stable at any temperature, can run on Boss adapter, doesn't need to be first in the signal chain and it doesn't cost as much for the rare transistors...

    BC 108 for me. Cuts much clearer.

    I have a high gain white for [sadly they don't make these anymore] and i couldn't be happier...though the red dot is fairly close in tone and gain

    Why is the NKT pedal so much louder and distorted? Not really a fair comparison. Also the recorder is clipping. Lots of problems here. But you can tell they both sound pretty good anyway.

    You need both of them. How could possibly choose?!?!? :-)

    I prefer the NKT275, it seems to have a richer sound. The BC108 seems alittle bit thin in comparison, the bass end just drops out of it.

      looks like the bias on the NKT is cranked up, that's probably a factor. it would make a fuzz louder and bassier. but also the transistor differences of course.

      Yeah but the NKT is way more muddy.....like super muddy....So why go Germanium again. Silicon cuts way more and definitely sounds richer in this sense and way more articulated

    i find my AM bc183 very high gain when the gain is max. i have to back it a bit and use my volume knob in my guitar to tame it. do you do this also?

    Hi,
    Great video.
    Is it BC108C or BC108 ?

  • @gangtwanger249

    Yeah, I like the NKT better (That thing sounds awesome). I think part of it has to do with the fact that I like a BC108-type Fuzz Face with a touch more gain than that. I was actually surprised how little the BC Sun Face has for a silicon FF clone. I mean, I think my Throbak Overdrive Boost has more gain than that.

    My guess is the fact that nkt275 costs hundreds more will make the decision easier for some people out there.

      vonslagle Thats the new NKT red dot, that's not the same one as the NKT275. The NKT275 is going for around 550 and is only available second hand.

      Maestro MFZ-1 is the fuzz I've seen most commonly associated with that album. However, I don't think the Green Russian is ever a bad choice, and Dan uses one as well. On what songs/albums, I dont know. Either way, both the GR and MFZ-1 are great and hours of fun await.

    Honestly, they both sound great. I use both silicon and germanium transistor equipped fuzz face types - I let my mood dictate what kind gets the nod for any particular gig. Lately, I've been favoring a certain silicon based one, but tomorrow (or tonight), I may feel drawn to one of my germanium ones instead. I really dig the fuzz face circuit and a well made one (such as the analogman ones), is usually going to sound good regardless of silicon or germanium transistors.

    NKT sounds better here, sure, but mainly because it seems to have slightly more low end / low mids, and less top. I fancy a lot of what sounds good here will depend on the rest of the setup.
    The clipping is slightly different, but the Si has the advantage of predictability.
    The one thing I'm not sure about is the cleanup. Some Ge fuzz faces go from clean to saturated instantly, with no predictable transition. Makes me lean towards Si.

    NKT by far. Especially in a mix.

  • @70mcnevin
    @70mcnevin Рік тому

    The NKT is pushing the amplifier harder so naturally its going to have a loudness bias in favor of that pedal.

  • @fiascoseven2796
    @fiascoseven2796 7 років тому

    The NKT had too much Transient Intermodulation Distortion and therefore will not transmit cleanly enough. The BC108 sounded too focussed and lacked an inspiring tone.

    There is just something special about germanium. It just kills silicon in almost all situations with its amazing, how should I say this............... It's character. It just has a character to it that nothing else does.
