Hey man I wrote that shit two years ago, thanks for calling me out on it. It started a trend where I reconsidered a lot of what I thought and what I value not just in music but in how I think about people/politics/movements in general. I really appreciate it, an anonymous verbal ass-kicking was exactly what I needed to at least get my head straight about what actually matters.
You can't just play to the exact same core audience over and over again.. People mature, people grow, people find out new things about themselves and the world around them.. They never sold out, just moved on. And I have an album for every mood from my favourite band.. Gettem Laura Jane! Against Me! Your machines still kill Fascists!
hell yeah, and if you read her book, she explains why they moved on to bigger albums and things like that, they are still just as amazing no matter if they got really big or not.
I just wish they would play songs like this and Burning Bridges at their shows, but Against Me can still make great music regardless, and I personally really like Black Crosses, it was way better than White Crosses.
Mind game after mind game for the head-trip after all the shit. One step in advancement, numb to everything. Searching for the result, striving for resolution, offering no solution just more dogma for confusion. Fill you full of promise with your back against the wall; interpret a hopeless freedom where chains liberate the soul. Answers to silent questions from the idols of the dark. First present solution then we'll see about tearing down the walls... Health all alone you find there's nothing left to fear, with the one exception of the message they conceal. Face placed on the master you find the mirror brings disgust. From the confines of this entrapment you can justify anger as lust. Blatant disregard to the feelings within, selling your own soul condescending nature flowing within. You can hate the system search for bricks to smash the state, but what's the point of revolution when no one can relate? For the finger falls one person short, the crosshairs turned around and you cry war. First present solution then we'll see about tearing down the walls...
@myeengunskoo Sir, thank you for changing my mind. I Was A Teenage Anarchist was the only song I listened too off of White Crosses because I too was a teenage anarchist. However, upon taking your suggestion, I realized they have just grown up. Thank you for changing my mind.
Havent heard this in YEARs. I was trying to remember the name of these guys, and it hit me on the toilet. I looked it up and saw like some crappy new music or something, not sure if its the same guys. But this this right here. This was my folk punk days. Well Rosa, defiance ohio and this. Its all the folk punk we had. But i decided to start playing this song while writing my biography, with a twist. Well inspired by. It will be entirely fictional. But based on events in mmy life stringed togeth as a story. Hope Punks one day read it, and it helps them transform and grow.
Probably was... They're not so great anymore. Tom Gabel is now Laura Jane Grace, she came out as transgender quite a while ago now actually... but yeah they progressively got less and less folk punk, then even less punk.. I haven't cared to even try whatever they're putting out anymore.
so weird, i read LGJ's autobiography and when she referred to their first EP as having a 'last minute glitch that made the audio sound terrible' I always thought that was in reference to their 2001 EP crime, which sounds fine, but now I realise it was Vivada Vis
the diffrent styles are memories its good to change a bit man....like they change a bit and u still have the amazing songs that they created that are diffrent so just fucking be happy you got that. and fuck off. against me is amazing i fucking love them so much icant wait to go see them ohh man. its guna be intense@@
No, they were prolly just tired of being starving artists. They sold out. Plain and simple as that. And I do not blame then one bit. However, I will still criticize them for that until they realize it was a mistake.
its stupid how people cant allow a band to grow and change. against me is my favourite band, no matter how much they "sold out" you hate white crosses? go watch the acoustic version with Franz Nicolay. They're still against me, just they've grown up. Apparently their fans are unable to do that.
Tala Henning I'm with you sexy, against me has been my favorite band for over to fucking 15 years and I love they're adaptation and they're old, against me forever!
I was a teenage anarchist, the revolution was a lie..... dont care who u are or what ur views on against me are as far as the band progressing....but that one line just pooped all over everything that tom has ever said in his entire carrer....honestly has.....thats telling u to give up on anarchy...to give up on hopes n dreams ....its just the way it is....n i will argue my point all day...not saying ill not take your views in perspective but i will make u see mine
so many powerful lyrics that can be quoted even today, after 20 years.

PUNKS NOT DEAD
Why tear down the walls?
people who spend all day going on youtube to talk shit on music they don't like have no life
They have a life, they're just wasting it.
They sure had a nice vibe going before Tom publicly committed himself to zog agenda. perhaps that's part of the lesson to learn from them.
vivida vis & tom's demo tape are the best albums Against Me! has ever made, their new songs suck.
