Thank you so much for posting this. I used to live up near Glaxo's and started work in Heston, near LHR in 1975, so crossing the A40 here this was my daily route to work. Since losing my memory in a bicycle incident I really appreciate video's like this. Nice to see Greenford Broadway and the greengrocery stall as I thought I remembered it. And I bought my moped from Keelers just about visible in the sweep of the junction. As for the flyover itself....the pre- flyover arrangement is still a complete blank to me! But oh wow...I do remember the yellow direction signs of the day. Next I'm looking for footage of the old humpback bridge over the Grand Union at the Black Horse on Oldfield lane.
i mis those days in greenford i lived on cowgate road it used to be a dead end road until they knocked the houses down at bottom end which now leads into hicks avenue, my house used to be opposite the bowling green in perivale park, had much fun giving the park keeper the run around lol we named him arkie the parkie
I wonder if anyone has photo's of the Lorry Park in Greenford? That was opposite B and Q on the A40. In the 80s, we used to go there on your bmx's and the lorry drivers used to chase us. Bring back those days....
This is great I along with another school friend went to the public enquiry at the Holy Cross church hall on Oldfield Lane We were doing a project on the planning enquiry The overall recommendation by the enquiry was for an underpass to be built the residents overwhelmingly supported it The plans had already been drawn up and were displayed So that's what we all thought would be built The the DoT basically rejected the recommendations because, they said of the gradients, we all knew it was purely because of cost. So the overpass was built and it's still a dreadful blott on the area It dominates the skyline totally Because of all the controversy they then did the underpass at perivale to avoid the complaints!!
What Ealing council hss done to the roads around here is criminal. 20mph speed limits, cycle lanes, superfluous yellow boxes at each exit from the roundabout that cause more jams than they prevent.
Greenford has become so much worse. It is now a place of concrete, run down shops and ugly streets. The joke is, we all assumed it would get better. All the charm, warmth, all the character, all the bits of heritage, all the pride. All gone, along with the elders who cared for and protected the community - the no nonsense, community spirited, charismatic, common sense, local Englsh people. Now replaced by woke, career politicians.
Great video (thanks). Still hoping someone comes up with a video of King Discs and the model shop (pre Steve Perrymans)....😊

Amazing, I moved to cowgate road just as the development was completed.
Great memories- made my eyes glaze.
Times have changed since then. I have lived in Perivale since 1982. Changed since the hospital went away behind our house, all changed.

No silly average speed cameras back then. Could easily hit 70mph on the A40!
Could have crossed it at a slow walk!!!

Lost our front garden due to the flyover and the govt ended up buying our house. We lived catty corner to the Bridge Hotel off Leaver Gardens.
Now if only they could do something about the traffic light junctions on the A40 near acton, it would all flow much better.
Sadly Greenford is a complete kip now, just like many other areas. So much nicer back in those times
What's a kip????
@@_B.M_ A kip is a Irish term for dump AKA! shithole! used to live in Park royal not far from Greenford!
why were there so many vintage car collectors back then?

I used to work at the co-op dairy on Costons lane not far from the flyover.
