16 years later, Gianni Denegri (whom coached the panthers at the time of this documentary) now coaches at Rockstar Cheer, and fills in for the Rolling Stones (their IOC5 team) when one of their boys quits day 1 at Worlds 2015. At 41 years old, he throws a standing full, bases, and even flies in the pyramid! The dedication that he has for this sport is phenomenal, and proves that you are never too old to be able to cheer if you set your mind to it

Such a classic documentary. I know a lot of the people who were in the video, and who competed as Club Spirit in the Open Division. Thank you so much for sharing this!!
Now, if I could only find MTV's True Life: I"m a Cheerleader show from 2001, somewhere on line.

OMG Club Spirit!! I cheered at Club Cheer way back in the day when this documentary was filmed and thought the coaches were the COOLEST still cheering at their "old age" (well, old to us at the time ha)

Omg this documentary was all the rage if you cheered back then. I was in 6th grade and cheered for spirit of Texas! Even though worlds didn't come around til 2004, very few teams competed and it wasn't til around 2007 that Worlds became the most sought after title. Brings back so many memories. The music and uniforms were cute for back then lol... Such a sign of the times!!

I think it’s so cool that all 3 of these gyms are still around and thriving. Also I knew CA and WC were started in the 90s but I didn’t know GymTyme was! Neat.

Holy crap watching this reminds me of the first 7 years of cheering at my first gym and a girl I know went to CA I think 2007, but loving the uniform! Wish I still had my 2000-2003 uniform, bc all I can say that the hard pieces in the tops used to hurt my arms lol

Especially all the late 90s and 2000s music they used! Then we could use songs that came on the radio and now u can’t which is sad but dang I was always hyped up during when it comes to these music during practice

@tingirl1999 13 years ago Worlds didn't exist. Worlds was first held in 2004. This documentary was shot in 1999. Back then NCA Allstar Nationals in Dallas was the biggest competition for this sport.

Shows how much World Cup has evolved. The high school girls then routine would of been amateur to the now Twinkles where the girls are half their age.

they were in transition then. If you watch blacks ox scandal movie about 1919 white soxs, or a movie about early football you will see the same transitions.

Everything has changed so much about Cheer looking at this vid. It doesn't matter how well the uniforms look all gyms can't afford nice rhinestones , sparkles, or silk stuff. The stunts have changed so much. just everything has changed back then the uniforms were not all about crop tops or how short the skirts were they were not about how fancy they looked. The uniforms were just there to represent the teams and that's how I wished it still was. But things change.

I love how they're following flyers.. Do they not already get enough time in the spotlight? No one loves the backspots... We get put in the back and no one sees us
