A handsome stadium with even the oldest stand neatly integrated. Thanks very much for the flying visit, Nick.
Now there a great old stadium. West Bromwich Albions lovely Hawthorns. Looks a lovely place. Changed alot since I went there back in the mid 80s. I agree that its surroundings help the feel of the Stadium as with others I think it becomes part of the community rather than being built on a fresh patch of land on the outskirts of a City or town. Retains its heart and soul. Everton, Liverpool, Manchester United, Burnley and many others in similar environment. You cannot buy that! Inherited an earned status through generations of changes and fans. Great video as was Villa Park. Quality. Nice to see other stadiums in this way. Cheers Nick
Great ground , a proper English stadium.
To answer your question, Sandwell Academy is a secondary school and sixth form with academy status and is actually sponsored by West Bromwich Albion. It does specialise in Sports and Business enterprises and has facilities which accommodate that specialism. 👍
before the academy was built it was a fully comp school i attended it till 1974, before that it was called sandwell secondary modern it was a boys and girls school they was separate when it became thomas telford it was mixed
I enjoyed that trip to the Hawthorns and down memory lane for me. Last time I was there was in March 1968 when Everton beat the Albion 6-2 with 4 goals from my hero Alan Ball, two from the spot. Sadly for us Evertonians we lost at Wembley two months later, to a lone Jeff Astle goal after a tired clearance by Howard Kendal landed at his feet and he thumped it into the net.
I was living in the area at the time and I saw some great games at their atmospheric ground, the best of which was a night match vs Man u in the days of Best, Law and Charlton which Albion won 6-3, a hatrick from Astle and goals from Brian Kidd (2) and Law
We had a great game at Goodison in 1966 against Albion, which we won 5-4 after they pulled level after we led 4-1, two more goals from Alan Ball.
They have developed all four stands since those days and though smaller it looks great.
Thanks again Nick
My favourite stadium 😊
I went there several times in the sixties to see the Villa derby’s
Also the Albion v Man U late 68 when Astle and Law both scored hat tricks
Great video mate. From a West Brom season ticket holder we are very privileged to have such a nice home! If you ever want to come to a game let me know and I’ll sort you out with some tickets 💙🤍
Another cracking stadium.
wow !! How its changed, I am 66 now remember going when I was 4/5 , my dad used to lift me over the turnstile, not living in UK now many years, But Would love to go back one day ! Thanks for showing, well done !
Nice stadium and nice surroundings , fits in with the surrounding area.
My church love this place COYB
Great video again Nick. I have good memories of this ground, it's the first away ground I ever went to. Happy days. Best wishes. Graeme from Portsmouth. PUP
Maybe you could have mentioned the Jeff Astle Gates? Nice stadium...
Thanks for that Nick. Brings back fond memmories. As a nipper, stood in the Brummie rd end with my dad, watching some of the great ones, Astle, Banks, Best to mention but a few 🥰
Many thanks for the video - as a life long fan it was great to see a different perspective of the stadium I know so well.
The hawthorn’s has always been a nice atmospheric stadium just wish our owner would sell up , team doing ok but can’t see with no investment how we will progress . At least technically when we play we can always say we have the highest crowd in the league .
Top video nick 👍
Thanks Nick
As a season ticket holder of too many years to remember it's great to see it from another angle
Safe travels
Used to be smaller and hold 40,000+ back in the 70's.
Nicely revamped over the last few decades, wraps around the pitch to give an enclosed finish.
Easy on the eyes, wish Jeremy Peace hadn’t sold us, best years we’ve had for decades under his stewardship.
Cheers mate great video I’m a season ticket holder in the east stand.
Great camera work mate. UTA!
Great vid mate 👌🏻
I saw my team leyton orient here in 1993 when stadium looked entirely different.
'Boing boing baggies' was their thing.
Jumping in unison.
We lost 2-0 & away ticket cost £8

Great flyby with some good facts. Season ticket holder over 20yrs. Been going up the Hawthorns since 1986. Like most grounds it lost something when it went all seater. Best memory was rhe play off 2nd leg again Swansea in '93. Got crushed on the barriers as the stand was packed to the brim. The atmosphere was probably the best I've ever seen at the Hawthorns. Only one that came close was the play off 2nd leg to Villa 2019.
Ya season is ok great video Sir i think football grounds should stick being old school specially on match days
Wounder who the chap is painting at the beginning by the EAST STAND ME 😂
Great stadium great footy team 👍

Boing Boing Class stadium
Boing! Boing!
sandwell academy before it was built used to be Thomas Telford comprehensive school, mixed, before that it was sandwell secondary modern boys and girls schools which was separate there was also a jnr school called Albion jnr school at the front i attended both Albion jnr and sandwell secondary modern schools , and it became Thomas telford about a year before i left to go to work, it was then knocked down, and acquired by west Bromwich Albion to build there academy, the old training ground used to adjoin the the school separated by a fence, it was the old crittle hope factory land hope this helps
Boing Boing Baggies!!
I'm West Bromwich Albion fan. I think The Hawthorns is a great stadium, old meets new.
I'm a Wolves fan. And rivalry and detestment away. I actually like the Hawthorns, it's pretty nice. Love the future nostalgia it brings similar to Molineux nowadays
Very interesting, but got to point out a 'fact', The Hawthorns is in Smethwick, not West Bromwich...Jenny x
4:54 That's not entirely true. Although some if it is. Just outside the Astle gates in the brummie rd end there is a sign stating welcome to Westbromwich, twinned with Amritsar, a town in the Punjab in Northern India. Thought it is worthwhile throwing that fact in.
Home ❤
It’s where I worship. Halfords Lane ST holder.
Albion are massive
Have you been following me around ;-) Nice video

Capacity sadly reduced over the years. Used to be quite big.
Be careful they will steal your drone there
