  • Here's all the measurements for the individual blocks and the final quilt size:
70x 9" square blocks made up of:
70x squares for the top of the quilt
70x squares for the back of the quilt
    plus 70x 7.5" squares of wadding (I used 70% recycled polyester / 30% cotton)
(You'll also need extra fabric for appliqué shapes if you decide to add those plus interfacing)
Seam allowance for joining the blocks: 1/2" (and not 3/4", as I had originally planned).
Size of the finished quilt (7x blocks per row / 10x rows): a whopping 54" x 79" ! (You can obviously make it smaller, if you wish - just make the blocks smaller or have less per row and / or less rows).
Have lots of fun & enjoy a nice cup of tea, a good book or a spot of relaxing hand stitching snuggled under your finished quilt! 😍
    Mira 🙋‍♀️
p.s. As previously mentioned, the fabrics were gifted to me by ‪@freespiritfabrics5457‬ for my first project as part of their 'Circle of Makers' during the Influencer Tour 2024. They are from the Morris & Co. 'Emery Walker' collection.

Jetzt weiß ich erst, wieviel Arbeit in so einem Quilt steckt, dank deiner detaillierten Erklärung. Das Endprodukt ist super schön geworden. Wieviele Arbeitsstunden stecken in so einer Decke? Unbezahlbar❣️‼️

I love this quilt! I have so much fabric I have thrifted and this will be a perfect use for it. Do you happen to have a couple of templates for the leaves and hearts? I am new to sewing and have no idea where I could get those to try. Thanks so much for sharing!

I'm SO pleased to hear that you love this quilt! It's honestly a great way to practice your sewing skills as it's very forgiving and can hide a whole load of wonky seams thanks to all the snipped seam allowances..! It would look absolutely stunning as a colourful 'scrappy' kind of a quilt with lots of different fabrics, colours and patterns mixed together. Just make sure they are all woven and not knit fabrics.
As to the hearts & leaves - somewhere at the beginning of this video I'm drawing out the heart along the fold of a piece of paper and that's how I made my heart shape. I've just measured it and it's pretty much dead on 3" from the V tip at the top of the heart to the bottom tip of the heart. If you make two dots along the folded edge as a size guide, you can then draw a half heart shape, cut it out and then unfold the paper so you've got your full heart shape, if that makes sense? If the upper curves are too high or full, you can fold the paper in half again and cut off some of the curve to take it in. By folding the paper first you'll make sure both halves will be symmetrical.
Once you're happy with the shape it's worth tracing it on some card stock which will be easier to use later on.
I made the leaf shape in the same way, but the half leaf I drew along the folded edge of the paper was a tiny bit more of an egg shape than a perfectly symmetrical curve towards both points. I thought a slightly fuller curve on one half of the leaf would look more organic / stylised.
I really hope you'll have a go - this type of quilting is a lot of fun and the finished quilt will be super snuggly!
Do let me know if you have any other questions about the process and I'll try to help.
      Have fun! 🙋‍♀️☺️

p.s. the leaf shape measures 2 and 7/8" from tip to tip and 1.5" across at the widest point.

How far is the decorative stitching from the edge of each quilt block I meant. 😬🙂

So sorry- I’m still going through the comments from during my month off social media..
The important thing with stitching the decorative border on each square is to sew inside the wadding square as the border is intended to fix the wadding in place and prevent it from shifting or bunching up. I think on average I’ve sewn ca 2cm minimum away from the edge of the wadding square. I hope that makes sense ☺️
      Happy quilting!

beautiful 🤩 can it be webbed together?

    • @bluebellhillcrafts
      @bluebellhillcrafts  2 місяці тому +2

      Thank you! ☺️
I guess it would be technically possible, but I’m just wondering whether all of the additional weight of having the blocks already pre-quilted would make webbing them together too cumbersome. It’s a great technique when you’re just dealing with one layer of fabric, but managing the weight of the whole quilt throughout the whole webbing process would be difficult. Joining each row individually is much easier and quicker with rag quilt blocks, I imagine. If you try webbing, I’d be interested to hear how you get on with it!
      Happy quilting 🙋‍♀️
