Liberty deserves more credit than he actually ..fantastic drummer ..he fit Billy Joel like a glove...he was the perfect drummer for Billy
I am not a drummer. Couldn’t keep a beat if my life depended on it! But this guy…is one of my favorite people on earth! It’s not just his skill,it’s also his personality! He’s an old school kid with a lot of class! And he deserves as much spotlight as Billy himself! Great interview!
I hate the fact, that Liberty is'nt with Billy anymore..I never can't say it enough...I mean, he plays with feel and passion like literally no other..

A lot of talent and hard work. All the glam and stories follow but it's the work that you put into it that carries you. Go LIBERTY!
I love how these stories flow, whether it's Mr. Joel, or Mr. DeVitto telling them. They're both brilliant musicians and an integral part of our collective soundtrack, but it sounds so much like just a bunch of buddies who met, hung out, went here and did THIS, or went there and did THAT. His "Movin' Out" origin story at the end is a great example!
Liberty is the reason I'm a Billy Joel fan. His style of playing got me into Billy's music. I'm sure those in the biz absolutely know who Liberty is. In my opinion one of the greatest drummers! He seams like a very down to earth guy. Wish I could meet him. I wish he was still playing with Billy. Great interview!!
Liberty is a very interesting guy to interview. Of course I saw him in a few of Billy Joel's videos back when but I finally took notice of him when he was touring with Big People. Benn Orr, Jeff Carlisi, Derek St, Holmes and Pat Travers and Liberty.

I live in Kings Park on Long Island, NY, and I guess maybe 25 years ago, a small convertible pulled into the 7-11 by me on Pulaski Rd, and I could swear it was Liberty, I should’ve ran over and said Hello, dammit. I think he lived in Port Jefferson at the time (a half hour away). I love The Nylon Curtain. I love All For Leyna, I love when Billy screams I Got Blisters On My Blisters! at the end of the Sometimes A Fantasy 45, I love that The Entertainer 45 clocks in at 3:05… and Liberty is one powerhouse of a drummer, him and Kenny Aronoff are two of the most powerful drummers around
Liberty actually lived in Fort Salonga at the time.

The more I listen to these short interviews from Liberty the more I understand how devastating it was to him, Doug and the other band members to be fired from the band. Especially from this interview, it is so clear that being fired felt like being kicked out of your own family for ever.

Exactly!! I couldn't agree more! Two guys a lot of people don't know a lot about, but we're, and are, absolutely the driving force in any band they are a part of. Awesome drummer awesome man!!
