I have to say, this was the most informative and straight forward takedown video I've seen. Awesome guide to disassemble my security 9. Thank you very much!
Thank you. Just bought my S9 yesterday at Rural King. I have owned long guns, and shotguns for decades. This is my first foray into a pistol. Your video was extremely helpful.
Great video!!! Thank you for all the details with a full break down of this new piece from Ruger... Was kind of skeptical about getting one til now... Thanks again and keep up the awesome work
Thanks for the education. This was my first fire arm ever. I'd like to make a few mods to it myself so being able to disassemble and resemble is a must. Again, thank you very much.
Went shooting with my grandson a few days ago and this is his first pistol. Had some issues with extraction and stiff trigger. Got home and looked for disassembly videos and was very disappointed with what I found. Cleaned up the gun and it operated better for sure. Found your videos yesterday and subscribed. Will be ordering the upgrade parts soon. Really nice pistol for the price and worth the upgrade. Very nice videos. Thanks

Thank you very much 😂 without this video, I was searching for a gunsmith. I changed my trigger to the Galloway Seneschal. I had springs everywhere. I called it a night after a couple hrs. I watched your video and again as I was putting it back together. So many tricks like having the hammer back to working. Great video and I look forward to more as well as upgraded products. Galloway is the best! Thank you, Brandon. 😅 my security 9 is back and better with Galloway

Excellent video with well thought out, real world information! I just picked up the Security 9 and it’s an excellent value. I’m truly impressed with Ruger’s design. Liked & subbed!🇺🇸
Thanks for the clear easy to follow video. Just used it to fix my stepsons pistol he somehow managed to get the hammer facing forward and jamming up in the sear. This saved me money on taking it to a gunsmith.

Thanks for showing this. The design is elegantly simple, although it lacks a firing pin block thus relies solely on sear engagement to control firing mechanism. It is a matter of personal preference, but I’m not inclined to carry such a pistol and would rather rely on a pistol with more internal safety design.
thanks for the heads up before I broke my gun down only to find out the mag release can't be swapped to the other side. Much appreciated video.. solid work. new sub also.

Great video. Now I know how to fix/replace the slide stop spring... Remember to make sure the hammer is in the forward position before trying to assemble, (safety) and balance of gun. If not, slide will not shut.
Thank you very much for showing us this video I bought my compact security nine and I’ve only shot it four times and twice the bullet got lodged so I went ahead and called it up hopefully that’ll do it

They have no problem fixing it for me if any update they will fix it so I don’t know why people keep hauling about RUGER is not a good gun the best gun around, the best gun in the world
I had to take down my ruger security 9 because the slide wouldn’t rack back or forward there was a piece of metal showing between the polymer and the metal and it was the takedown pin slide release spring. It doesn’t sit in there Keeps flying out. I already contacted ruger hopefully next week they can send a replacement. After that probably gonna sell my ruger. Last ruger I’ll own thank you for the really helpful video.

is it necessary to completely disassemble to clean or are you doing this to show how to replace parts this looks very complex to me. Thank you Great video
Just field strip it like the manual calls for for standard cleaning. Any decent gun oil will be fine for cleaning the polymer portions of the pistol, I wouldn't use solvent on the polymer though except for Hoppe's #9 and I wouldn't let it sit on the polymer either.
This was an extremely informative video as I have one of these on order should be here Tuesday next week. You say that Galloway might be making a trigger for this? I am all ears my friend hopefully make a straight blade without a dingus to eliminate that dreadful trigger safety, that would be most excellent. I wanted a G19 sized weapon that would serve as an EDCC/Duty pistol, but also had an external safety so that I can carry appendix and know for certain there is no risk of accidental discharge. I had considered the SR9c but the guy that was at the store I was browsing at showed me this because it didn't have the magaizine disconnect which I was not thrilled about on the SR9c but was willing to overlook it, until handling the Sec-9. I personally think that the Sec.-9 is a more ergonomically pleasing in the hand sure it lacks the ambi-control capabilities but it is not that big of a deal really. and maybe if the mag release is that big of a deal drill the frame to accommodate the spring being reversed and try reversing it. The next question is are the mags set up for ambi and then is the release itself able to be flipped over to work on the right side of the pistol or would an aftermarket need to be manufactured as an ambi-replacement piece? I know that it is in an economy class of firearms but it is an exceptional platform to build upon and I am not so old that I can't appreciate hotrodding something, so I am curious and anxious to see what starts coming into the aftermarket for this pistol. I will definitely be ordering a couple +2 mag extension base plates. I just wish there were more sights available for this but they are slim pickings right now.
At the end of the ejector does it have a slight bend towards the left? Mine does and I didn't know if it got bent or is suppose to be like that. Thanks

Hey guys, thanks for putting this out. Is it possible to get the take-down out using a fingernail, or something you could more easily carry on a key-chain?
I found a cool trick, use the magazine lip, you can use it even with rounds in the mag, if you look at the mag you will see the lip stick up just under the bullet. Will fit perfect for removing the pin. No tools needed.
If you flip the gun over you can actually press the pin from the right side with the tip of a ballpoint pen. You still need to press the slide back a little but I do it that way it to avoid scratches.
I have a security 9 and every time I go to rack the first round of jams about half way it came with a few small parts to fix it but don't know what I'm dealing with
Can you tell me is the security nine pro the same takedown procedure? Not that I would ever disassemble my firearm because I’m not a professional like you however, I’m just curious if there’s any changes to the springs etc.
I have the pro version and the extractor pin is somewhat bent at the end. In your video it looks like yours is straight. Can you let me know if it's supposed to have a slight bend in it?
I lost the slide stop spring for my security 9. I found steel spring rods that I can use to make a new one because Ruger doesn't sell replacements but I'm not sure what size wire I need my options range from 0.2mm to 3mm. Can anybody tell me what size I need?
I have one of these, thinking about removing the safety. Just wanted to get your thoughts on that before I do it. Is that something you would say is ok or not? I love this pistol, I'm just not a fan of external safeties.
Ok I need a answer asap I just installed the aftermarket trigger from you guys I obviously messed up somewhere because the trigger doesn't move and 2nd the cotter pin looking pin flew off to nowhere the one that sits looks like it holds the slide release in place I can still rack n lock back my slide but question is could I just replace it with a close to same size cotter pin and also what could I have done wrong why the trigger is just stuck I followed video n this isn't my first trigger install though it is on this gun
Not sure if this is still active but I just bought a new Security 9 4/2/2020 and fired 30 round through it. Had 3 FTL always first rounds in the mags. Noticed the ejector is bent slightly down and to the left. Is this normal? Yours looks dead straight. Can you help. Should I send it back to Ruger? Thanks for the help.
Do the plastic chassis pins make a real difference for the longevity of this handgun? Also would this gun with proper cleaning last around 20,000 rounds?
We make holsters for the Security 9. They are just off the website right now while I build stock from home during the pandemic. gallowayprecision.com/ruger/security-9/
I would take this pistols single action trigger over a GLOCK any day of the week. Now keep in mind my carry is a Springfield EMP 4 or a XDMod2 4 in service with Springer Precision internals. Eric carries either a G43, with all of our parts in it to make it usable, or a G19 that isn't much of a GLOCK internally anymore (Suarez International flat trigger Ghost INC internals, our guide rod). Stock pistol to stock pistol though both of us would run this any day of the week.
@@GallowayPrecision exactly my feelings on it....i haven't purchased my s9 yet but I hate the glock trigger system and it's on avg 200 dollars more for a gun that has the same dimensions, maybe better reliability (but only bec this ruger hasn't been out long enough to compare), same weight and as stated the worst semi-auto trigger I've ever used....the s9 also comes back to center for a follow up shot very well....better than some guns twice as heavy as well as a better felt recoil.....the trigger is the main reason I'll be buying it tho.
Can Manual Thumb Safety be removed and not put back in for gun to function? After the 2 pins are removed to take Trigger out of frame the Thumb Safety pops out easy. Does not look like anything would shift out of place with Thumb Safety removed? None of my handguns have a Manual Thumb Safety. I do not train for it and do not see a reason to start.
Please contact our tech through our Galloway Precision website for help with your installation. Sorry I can't leave the email address or url to our site due to UA-cam's policy on firearms. The contact us page will get the message to him.

Yes, internally they are all the same. Only difference will be the lack of an external safety on the Pro models from Ruger.

I have one of these, thinking about removing the safety. Just wanted to get your thoughts on that before I do it. Is that something you would say is ok or not? I love this pistol, I'm just not a fan of external safeties.
What size hex do you need to remove the rear sight? Ruger doesn’t include a hex wrench/key to adjust the rear sight.
That is a 5/64ths.
I lost the slide stop spring, do you have anywhere i can buy it?
Ok I need a answer asap I just installed the aftermarket trigger from you guys I obviously messed up somewhere because the trigger doesn't move and 2nd the cotter pin looking pin flew off to nowhere the one that sits looks like it holds the slide release in place I can still rack n lock back my slide but question is could I just replace it with a close to same size cotter pin and also what could I have done wrong why the trigger is just stuck I followed video n this isn't my first trigger install though it is on this gun

I have a security 9, and my sight is off just a touch to low, so I have to aim higher to hit my target, is that normal coming straight out of the box?
Not sure if this is still active but I just bought a new Security 9 4/2/2020 and fired 30 round through it. Had 3 FTL always first rounds in the mags. Noticed the ejector is bent slightly down and to the left. Is this normal? Yours looks dead straight. Can you help. Should I send it back to Ruger? Thanks for the help.
Do the plastic chassis pins make a real difference for the longevity of this handgun? Also would this gun with proper cleaning last around 20,000 rounds?
I would think so on both accounts, but that is probably more of a question for Ruger.
What size punch are you using to take out the extractor?
Has anyone found a holster that perfectly fits? Iv looked on the Ruger website & any others no luck
We make holsters for the Security 9. They are just off the website right now while I build stock from home during the pandemic. gallowayprecision.com/ruger/security-9/
Seems like glock 19 holsters fit nicely. Mine with a Tlr7a wepon light on it does anyway.
Is the magazine release reversible
Unfortunately it isn't.
Is there any way to replace it?
I've yet to see this gun in person it looks like it's just as strong of a pistol as my Glock do you agree with that statement?
Just ordered the ss guide rod with the 20lb spring what is this supposed to do for me exactly besides muzzle flip?
Can Manual Thumb Safety be removed and not put back in for gun to function?
After the 2 pins are removed to take Trigger out of frame the Thumb Safety pops out easy.
Does not look like anything would shift out of place with Thumb Safety removed?
None of my handguns have a Manual Thumb Safety. I do not train for it and do not see a reason to start.
Not really, the hammer pin runs through there and without the safety it moves around and can lock up the pistol.
Can you show the security 9 with mods. I have no ideal what to do with mine. It would be greatly appreciated.
So I lost the safety spring… any idea where to find a replacement or is there any chance that you may know the size?
Best bet is through Ruger.
