    That was so satisfying to watch when the mess of lines got resolved into a proper roof plan. Pretty. I felt a mental frown gradually unknotting itself. Thanks. Gonna try an sketch some odd welded rectangles and try this.

    The solution for where the roof ran into itself, "creating a water proofing problem", is to build a cricket (American term). This reverses the water flow to the correct downflow slope. The same idea as behind a mid-roof chimney, you divert the flow away from the obstacle.

    I would rather a video showing how to draw rafters for a complex roof like this one

    This was interesting, now I have lines chasing me in my sleep. I love a challenge so I will try this, but the lines man, the lines. There must be an easier way.

    Thank you. That was helpful. How about if one wing of the structure is rotated at a 30 or 45 from the main structure? And how do you decide how to break it into rectangles, such as, how did you decide to overlap the rectangles in the last video?

    • @AwesomeAndrew
      @AwesomeAndrew  3 роки тому

      Hi Crystal, glad this video was helpful. Thats a great question you asked there and worthy of a video in itself. The rectangle method i use is based off of where I would place primary structural trusses (girder trusses). i look at the roof structurally and first identify where all these main trusses would be located, which is how the rectangles are located essentially. This allows the roof to be broken into separate compartments that are then integrated together.
      In terms of angles walls, they can and do become trickier and something that would be better shown in a video than explained in a text.
      Have a great day.

    Hi how a bout tutorials on how to draw the individual trusses in a hip roof?

    Er, I think your arrows are reversed. But try copying them around, and giving them the obvious rotation angles.

    • @AwesomeAndrew
      @AwesomeAndrew  4 роки тому +1

      it may depend on perhaps your location to which direction people use them. I have worked in architecture for 20 years and this is the standard rotation used where the arrow points in the downward slope direction. I have seen it done the other way too, but that has very very rare, perhaps twice over 20years

    The roof shape in the middle is incorrect. I have solved it and could email you the solution

      Yes please send through what you have done. Always open to bring corrected but can't see an error in this roof.

      @@AwesomeAndrew I've sent it on your Facebook page, everything is correct except the middle part that you already pointed out. The water will accumulate and eventually leak if that was a real roof.

      @@adnanomerhodzic3869 I can't find the image posted anywhere, my email is contact@thirdistudio.com.au
      I understand about the flat part of the roof you are talking about, roofs actually do get built this way, I know its not an ideal roof solution in regards to water, usually this area is heavily flashed, perhaps even slightly graded with loose timbers (if trussesd) to aide in water run off.
      Great you noticed this poor roof design issue. In my own designs if I saw this I would move external walls, use gables or something else to avoid.

      I agree that generally roof plans can be complex sometimes, but hopefully using the method I use, and with some practice, you will find it easier with time

    Wow, that was bad. And why oh why would you intentionally put a box gutter in the middle of your house?
    At least it's appearance gave a reason why you would struggle so much to do such a simple process.
    Admittingly I always found it simple to solve roofs and most don't, even some roofies.
