- Duels is officially dead. It has been removed from the Hearthstone client, but I stayed up late on the final night to squeeze in a couple extra final runs. This is the first one, and it includes some fun double spell action with Idols of Elune.

I have like dozens of amazing runs that we've all forgotten about that might still feel surprising. And this being my side channel means it's okay if it doesn't get a ton of views (that hurts the main channel too much because of sponsor rates dropping).

Sad to see heart of stone is removed 😢. I started yeears ago watching ur duels videos and absolutely loved all ur duel runs! They inspired me to play aswell! I have to say im gonna miss duels alot❤ . I hope they make something cool in advance of duels. Battlegrounds is what i now only play.

No deck to be made, just premades every season and then you build up from there
I was rewatching a bunch of Regis Duels content. Over time, you can see his descent into madness and frustration with the stale meta and mechanics while wanting to try something new and unique. There was so much joy and excitement in the first 50 duels videos and that slowly faded as the meta settled.
It’s so weird to me that Duels provided so many ways to change the meta (card buckets, hero powers, drafting, rotations, treasures), and yet Blizzard barely attempted to add anything new or significant. The changes were often so small that the meta was decided in one or two days after the update which just led to more Regis frustration.
Glad to see the downfall was captured like this, haha.
Yeah I agree, a gamemode with so much potential but so little potential for monetization. Good business ≠ good game development

@@GenerationLex I don't know how true that is, but there was no way to monetize from duels apart from gold (and dust I suppose).
Mercenaries still has packs in the shop, which makes me think someone has to be buying it. Seeing the price of bundles, there must be a whale somewhere who likes mercenaries.

Regis, dude, your Duels content means so much to me. I remember, I'd watch your new INSANE duels run, and I'd go talk about it with my coworkers/friends at work. I've since moved on from this job, and these next 2 videos mark the official end of the best era in my life. I think we're both going through similar feelings, though your next era is looking like a LOT of fun. A lot is changing. I own a business now. What the heck??? Where has time gone. I miss the good ol' days. Wish you the best buddy. The parasocial friendship is real over here haha

I actually said, “welcome to duels” the same time Regis did. And it’s that type of craziness that made the mode less fun )(for me).
I am going to miss Duels. Watching your runs was one of my major connections to Hearthstone after falling off the game around the release of Demon Hunter. It seemed to caputure the promise of wacky fun that drew me in back when.
Regis thank you for playing the game! With every upload you uplifted my spirits while going to or at the university. Being completely honest, I don't have interest in snap but having you around for 7+ years have been truly a blessing, thank you for the company man.

Really sad cause casual duels was one of my fave modes. Wacky unique and crazy shit you could do and felt really laid back. I know there were suuuper busted stuff you could do, but that was sometimes cool getting railed by a crazy set of cards and treasures (at least more fun losing to that than ladder OTKs). Idk why they got rid of duels over mercenaries and I never touch battlegrounds either :(
because Mercenaries brings in a very decent amount of money I'm guessing, since if you want to play that mode it is heavily advantageous to sink a couple hundred dollars in. So even though not that many people do play, the ones that do give it a lot of cash to justify it's existence and any updates it might get. In comparison, Duels is just another regular hearthstone mode. Anyone that has the cards can play in it and usually people who are tired of the game that have a lot of cards already gravitate to it, therefore you are making a lot of content for stuff that is probably gonna make you very little money.
Though I don't get why they didn't just let it live on life support, it would still be a good thing they could plaster on the tin can of "X amount of game modes!!!"

It's kinda strange, Regis got me back into hearthstone with duels videos, and now I'm watching him play it for the last time.
I just hope Blizzard is secretly working on a complete overhaul of Duels while it's taken down. I'd love to see Bob's tavern and drafing starter decks!
I still remember the series where Regis did like ten(?) days of coming back to duels to really give the mode a fair opportunity after bouncing off it and I'm glad he did because so much amazing content came out of that. Losing it sucks! I feel in some ways like playing and watching it was one of the best ways to learn deckbuilding fundamentals because of how often you got to check in with the needs of your deck and understand how to lean into strengths and cover weaknesses without playing tons of games of the same deck over and over. I'd love to see all the "lost" duels content for that reason alone
Between duels going and the non stop bots, I said goodbye to HS, but always watched your content and still will.

It was my favorite mod, but when they changed the choice system to show "expansion X" "Expansion Y", instead of sinergy cards, it kinda made everything so restricted and less fun

RIP Duels, my favorite game mode. Got me back into Hearthstone and everything- now I'm not sure if I'll keep playing Standard anymore. Thinking on the positive side, though- if they've culled Duels and Mercenaries, maybe they can put those resources towards a new game mode that's better than Duels (there's a lot of room for improvement after all)

I'm glad duels is removed so that it shows them that they should'nt make a game mode that requires you to get past cards. It was such a greedy move to make random rotation with old cards to force regular players into crafting/buying cards they can't use in standard.
I never had that impression, so I never understood this point of contention. I used whatever I had, and I still had a lot of fun games. Maybe for the heroic version, now that I think about it, but as a casual game mode I don't think this was an issue
What a weird take.
"So that it shows them" shows WHO? blizz are the ones who removed it, there's no secret group you're proving something to.
And nobody forced you to net deck. Do you also complain about wild existing? Play with what you have. Or at worst you craft a few cards if you can't stand playing casual mode.
Like imagine thinking the format requiring the least cards for your starting deck is the issue lol.
@@NetMaple he's saying that blizzard removing it is proof that the formula didn't work, he just worded it a bit differently than you or I might have.
