      @brianpope7345 a battery is an integral part of an e bike. If it's found to be defective and unusable through no fault of the purchaser, a full replacement or refund for the purchaser should be forthcoming. Don't know why that would even be up for discussion.

    Who in their right mind at Canyon would think that someone paying 5K+ for a bike and then not being able to use it for at least four months would think that $230 is an acceptable amount. Just replacing the battery is not going to repair their reputation. If they want me to ever consider another Canyon bike, they're going to have to do a heck of a lot more than that.

  • @RadioReprised
    @RadioReprised Місяць тому +10

    I love my Bike!....but they expect me to not ride it for at least 3 months or longer and right when MY Season for riding starts leaving without a bike that I put 75 miles a WEEK on! And for this they think $231 is remotely acceptable?! I have had it 22 months after paying 5K+ and even a THOUSAND would have been low! And now there is no way to sell it as it will be worthless without a Battery, and even AFTER a battery is given no one will want the bike. They have destroyed the value totally, yet want to offer chump change for the damages. At least offer HALF OFF a new bike of the same kind!? The NEW battery better be as strong or stronger in WH as well and have a warranty of YEARS! If anything it needs to be upped to 750WH from 720 on the small frames and 900 or more on the rest.

    Love the Torque On…that said, it’ll be the last Canyon I buy. Battery issues with cracking were reported BEFORE I bought my bike (Oct 2023) on FB many times. I had thought “ahh overtorqued the bolts”, but appears a flawed design of frame/battery connection that they seem to have been all too happy to continue selling until enough people were affected that they finally took some action. This refund is a joke, as it doesn’t cover the fact that I can’t even give away the bike, let alone sell it to get a different one. Very disappointed in how this all is going. Actually wishing I’d gone YT instead 🤷‍♂️

    • @roadlesstraveledtruckee

      @ well, the YT is secured at both top and bottom of battery…which I think it Mich of the problem with the Canyon battery. Not having both ends secured allows it to shift slightly and cause issues…so I feel like it’s BOTH a Canyon and Trend Power issue

    very informative, seems like a long wait, and sounds like it may have taken them a long time to decide what to do, thinking they listened to your previous videos, then decided, OK lets make new batteries, and I feel like I can see someone else in the meeting saying well we better give them something for there time off the bike, calling it a refund makes me also think they are watching the Videos. so looking at the positive side, I think this is good news and, at least now they are looking at fixing the issues. and also mentioned in your video a smaller battery would be received quite negatively, so it looks like they are addressing that by building a new battery, if so ! then this community is working.

Your customer communications absolutely need to get better. Immediately. It is understandable that your legal team is probably calling the narrative, but if this isn't handled right, you won't have a legal team to give any advice, Canyon will disappear, which no-one wants. I'm trying to get a full or partial refund on the grounds that the bike was sold to me unfit for purpose, I had my battery replaced after 4 months of owning the bike due to it cracking, that was 2 years ago. Not only that, but I've had 3 batteries replace to date, and only now they decide to do something about it.

Canyon is not doing nearly enough in my opinion and I think they need to offer a total refund for those not willing to wait for a fix and they are shooting themselves in the foot regarding future and/or returning customers. Thanks for the update and info I purchased my bike in Late July of last year, and I have absolutely loved it so far, a very capable Mtn bike IMO . My bike is affected but upon inspection I found no cracks at this time '
    I am very unhappy about the whole battery thing for several reasons. Of course, the fact i can't ride it is really bad but beyond that, I looked for months on end for a bike I felt was worth spending that much money on. I was not completely sold on the whole e bike thing, but I rolled the dice. That said. I am 70 and live in Colorado. I can still ride a regular bike quite well, but it was getting harder every year...I want to keep riding!!!. I thought this was the answer for me to prolong my ability to ride difficult single track for at least another few years, VERY disappointed, to say the least, for a 5K bike that is 5 months old.
    I'm hopeful they will fix this issue sooner than what is expected I agree with others that the minimal refund is a complete joke and an insult for a bike that cost more that the car I drive
    I think they will make it Right

    I tought about it and noticed 2 things that are different on Bosch batteries 1) on my cube the battery is a Bosch OEM metal body battery, no attachements (likeTrek) no changes on it 2) I remove the bike plastic cover, plug-latch it in (no screws) then replace the cover I can imagine the battery has leeway to move a bit if the frame flexes, if canyon battery is hard fixed or screwed on the frame + plastic cover it might explain the problem

    • @roadlesstraveledtruckee
      @roadlesstraveledtruckee  Місяць тому

      Yes, the battery is fasted to the frame at the bottom with two screw close together. Cracks appear all over however and even the indicator light penetration is delaminating. I received a response from Bosch that their batteries are UL approved so presumably better quality.

      @jimm244 Seems crazy to me. When the bike brand decides to stop producing the battery for your bike you have to just throw the frame away. Even if you can buy one it can be £700. As for the motors - another £800. Batteries & motors often fail at about 2 years. Also resale is poor because new motors & battery technology change so fast. Constant money pit imo.

      @@malva1547 Turbo Levo is a great bike (as are Canyons). I’ve looked at their battery in photos and although it has a seem in the long dimension and a few penetrating screws it looks like it has much less chance to develop cracks. I bought my spectral on September 27 this year. A size small, mx wheeels. Got to use it for a month, and now i don't get to ride with my friends on the nice dry, frozen trails we have had in november and december. I am devastated 😢
    And I find this refund thing a joke, and a bit assaulting. To rent a bike twice a week in this period would cost me 2250 euros from November6th to February 5th. Make a refund for that! And also add the amount for a downpayment on a bike that can't be used.
    That being said, no one around here has rental bikes in size small, so neither way there are no good solution with this. I miss my riding friends, and hopefully I will see them some time next year.. but at this point, I can't sell my bike to get a new one, and I don't have the money to just buy an extra bike for this. Hey any word on the refund for the three bikes. It was a tough call but zi called canyon today and asked for a refund and they escalated it and I should hear back. Do you think it will not be possible to make a safe battery fit in these framed as the battery is so slim? My fear is they will not be able to make a safe case as it is so skinny and this might lead to a disaster. All the batteries for the other e bikes are way fatter. I am not sure how this is going to play out. I have found a couple other brands that I can go with for the 180 190 travel bike that I need.

      @@trailpimp6369 I have not heard back but plan to call them again. They were suppose to get back to me by now but may be stalling. They probably also know who I am so it’s probably not a routine reply. I do think they can create a new battery that will fit. My approach would be an extruded aluminum case with no penetrations and cast end pieces with all the indicators and connectors on those (they could change the cell format to create a more dense packing I suspect too). Challenge for them will be the integrated on/off button. I would love to see them blank off the on/off button, create a new connector to replace the Rosenberger connector, and create a dedicated charging port in a redesigned cover that replaced the access cover that has to be pull off every time. I doubt all that will happen, and I still think a solution by February is very best case. If this happens, I think it means they have already been working on this for months if not longer. My 2 cent (not financial advice / not safe to follow lol)… check your battery… make an educated guess whether you feel affected… canyon has to ask you not to use it… but I guess most MTB riders (spectral / torque) have at least basic understanding of the danger and some balls :) (know the risk and decide accordingly)… sure lithium fires aren’t fun (they are really mean, seriously)… so dont be complacent… but don’t let this stop having fun lol… this sounds too much like a depression podcast (not meant as an offense)… I am so stoked that they are working on a new battery… freaking love the race update for the EP801… it’s close to freezing here and it’s still so much fun lol… so thanks for the video and maybe be a bit more clear on what their money offer is and what to look out for when wanting to keep rocking… show us some positivity pls :)

The guy on call was blaming Germany and said that bike was purchased from Germany therefore warranty won't be accepted in the UK. Absolutely clueless guy about customer service and UK laws. They all pretend that nothing has happened and we are all happy.

    Not use it for 3-4 months? No way. I'd be riding regardless tbh.

      I think some are taking that approach. The chance of fire is probably low, particularly if you check the battery often and it is stored (and ridden) in a safe place. Thanks for sharing.

    Thank you for posting these videos. Finally bought the bullet and bought ebikes for my wife and I then this happens a month later! Very dissatisfied with Canyon response.

      Very bad timing for you to be sure. My wife and I really enjoy riding together for the first time FWIW, so hopefully this gets resolved soon.
