My friend, thank you for this absolutely awesome video. The scenery of the scenes and the natural surroundings are just stunning, peaceful and feeling so calm after watching it. Seeing a part of the world that is still as wild as many years before is just so beautiful. Thank you and send much love.
Lifelong Mainer here. We indeed have some of the best remaining trout waters in the US. Brook trout specifically. Southern zone still has some wild and native Brookie pops but far more sparce than the North zone. Stocking is heavily relied on in the south zones. North has some very good trophy waters. (Sorry i can't reveal that though! hehe) I love to just pack up my gear, grab my gazette and topo maps and just head out and find new waters. (take note that we have a lot and a lot of laws and regulations on so many different waters and such. and wardens take it very seriously) in regards to why places don't allow dogs or other things is because people can't pick up after themselves and respect the nature and lands they are given privilege to adventure on. Far too many times i see tourists come here and just litter everywhere, damage things, disregard laws and regulations. 90% of land up here is privately owned. So what we have is a privilege and i wish more people would respect that. Cheers, tight lines and best of luck and thank you for respecting the land and taking out what you take in and for wetting your hands before handling trout.
Google maps says it cant find a way to this location. Guess they dont want me visiting lol. Thanks for sharing, def a beautiful spot. Greetings from Albany NY!
I hope you had a chance to hit some of the ponds and bigger streams and rivers in and around Baxter, there are some much bigger trout and salmon for sure. But thanks for the video , we do have some beautiful places to visit and explore.
You definitely have some beautiful country. Would like to come back sometime. Yes..I hit the West Branch Penobscot and had a blast catching mainly landlocked salmon. I made a video of that outing as well. Some incredible country! Thx for watching! Tightlines!
If you're ever back around Ricketts Glen, shoot me a message. I've been spending time in that area since I was a kid. There's some great fly fishing around there.
A couple hours to the west of Baxter, there's a body of water that's home to a small population of Arctic Charr. Maine is the only state in the lower 48 that has a native population of charr. Wadleigh pond is the name if I remember correctly and it's fly fishing only
@@WildBlueDiscovery it's a real adventure, the absolute middle of nowhere. Buy a Maine Atlas and Gazetteer (by Delorme) because it's the only map that shows the logging roads out that way.
If you are going after Arctic char, Maine’s subspecies is also known as blueback trout, I suggest looking into Deboullie Public Land in the northernmost region of Maine. Beautiful country and multiple lakes full of brook trout, char, other cold water species and lots of woodland critters as well!
Went to Baxter many times when working for years out of Bangor. It’s really beautiful. However, of all the places I’ve been, that region has the most amazing insects. The masses of mosquitoes would drive you mad. In the spring the black flies would kill you if they could. In the heat of summer the tiny no seeums and deer flies would put you into your car to get the hell out of there.
The trick is long pant and sleeves with a hoodie. They have great light weight UV protecting fishing/ watersports gear now that makes it wearable in the summer heat.
I drove from Canada up to Baxter park and had the dog in the car. Saw the signs for no dogs and just covered him with a jacket. We all had a great day 👍🏻 ridiculous rule begging to be broken. Lost my boy last fall
No , Governor Percival Baxter gave the land to the people of Maine, not to the nation. That is what it will remain as a State park. Besides That was my backyard growing up. Born and raised in the Katahdin region.
Chimney pond has never had any fish. Russell pond on the other hand, which is also reached from Roaring Brook campground, is outstanding for brook trout. As well as a handful of ponds a short distance away from Russell.
I spend a lot of time in Montana leading veterans on fly fishing trips, I live in the Adirondacks, born and raised. Why does everyone compare fly fishing to Montana? I don't have very much experience with Maine, but I can tell you that the fly fishing in the Adirondacks is ten times more fun and just as beautiful, if not more so, than Montana.
Montana has kinda become a point of reference with fly fishing. River Runs Through It Movie probably did that. I was comparing the mountain beauty in this video, not the fishing. I have fished a good amount in Montana, but there are other great states in the west to fly fish. Montana is certainly an excellent fishery. I have done some videos on Montana and the Adirondack area around Lake Placid. Thx for watching! Tightlines
Baxter should not become a national park; it will impede, and cost, Maine Guides to guide there. We are doing just fine at Baxter without the federal government.
Thx for watching! I believe the ranger acted like there was some...but I had no luck. Didn't fish it long as the weather had other plans! Lol Tightlines!
The rules are in place for a reason. Governor Baxter set the rules with his deeds of trust. Domestic animals have never been allowed in the park. The park is self sufficient and doesn't cost the tax payers any money through taxes. Money is raised through camping fees, out of staters per day use fees, and a portion of the north end of the park is used for sustainable wood harvesting. The rules are in place and strictly adhered to as they should be to keep the park in its forever wild state. If you don't like the rules, you don't have to visit, but you are missing out on the most natural place you will ever find.
@@WildBlueDiscovery we Mainah's kinda have our own language to some it seems. I truly do hope tho that your adventure to Maine brings others to this wild gem of a State that I am bonded by birth to. Maine is the very best wild Brook trout destination in the lower 48. Bar none.

Cool video. Thanks for visiting. However, when you visit a place, put some respect on the name. It's Ka-Tah-Din not cat-a-dean. And your comment about dogs not being allowed is short sighted. It's natural the way it is. I love dogs, but they don't need to go everywhere. Your video is a cool tribute, but if you're going to be thankful for a place, don't question all the rules
Thanks for watching. It's a name for some reason I struggle with remembering correctly. And obviously I am not from Maine so I don't hear the name alot. No dogs don't need to go every where. Keeping it wild is certainly a great thing. I see you guide up in Maine. Beautiful place!!

@@WildBlueDiscovery I can assure you that I’m not the only Mainer who feels this way. Just please ask yourself why you’re doing this before you actually do it.
