  • Heres my review of the 3 f ul gear Taiji after three of four nights of use
    This is the best made chinese tent i have brought yet weighing 2kgs its not super light but this huge inside full mesh inner and fly first pitching makes it a breeze to put up being free standing it can be pitched with only two pegs on windless nights

    Thank you, perfect review. Not only are your thoughts and your judgement very valuable to anybody thinking about buying this (I just ordered one btw), but also you have this really nice british English. A bit like David Attenborough, bit like the Top Gear guys. I like it.

    I had a custom designed hammock tarp asked them to make for me about 10 years ago when they were just start selling small tent acceeries and fabric on taobao, build quality is on par with MSR Hubba Hubba I was so impressed, unfortunately as business growing as a big tent manufactur they no longer doing custom job for me anymore. However the quality of stitching is getting better, I mean really Good comparing the MSR Papa Hubba I just got week ago, MSR is going down hill in recent years and my new hubba has few places that sewing stitch completely missed on side of fabric folding line.

      These are cracking tents. I cant see why you would pay two or three times as much for a name brand tent unless it was cuben fibre. Stitching is good fabrics are good cant really find anything wrong with the especially at the great prices.

    I have several tents from Naturehike and 3F ul. Two major things to consider when buing these manufacturers. First i would like to say i support that these tents by these manufacturers are good value and i do use them myself. Now, if you are OVER 175cm and you are camping in cold conditions like down to 0 degr C. Then your sleeping bag is thicker than a summer bag. Hence the foot section and head section of your sleeping bag add some xtra centimeters and can touch the inner tent. If you have condensation then your fotbox of your bag can get wet. So make sure the length of the inner tent is Preffably over 200cm.
    Another issue is some of the tent models have so much mesh that they are very drafty and perticularly as some of the tents have flysheet edges that are 3- 5 cm from the ground, which is good for ventilation but again can make for a very drafty or cold tent inside. So choose your tent model carefully. Like i said, these are very good tents but not the best for nordic, windy or cold weather camping. Also their stakes/pegs are ok quality but are to short.

      Great comment! Yep chinese tents can be short but the seem to be getting longer with every new model. They are also making winter non mesh inners for alot of models ( lanshan 2 and also this tent) personally i dont see a tent in the uk outdoors market place that i would bother buying ( maybe trekkertent) most are heavy cheap fabrics for Premier price or US mainstream brands (msr northface marmot) that are inner first pitch and very spendy for alittle less weight. Companys like terra nova i just disregard as they are silly priced and not refined ( ie designs that havent changed in 20 years with heavy old fabrics or superlite tents that are priced like a used car) outdoor kit has stupid markups so why not cut out the middleman

    • @TheBossMitch
      @TheBossMitch 5 років тому +1

      The gear shed
      Fully agree. Besides its hard not to think that these chinese manufacturers are making the same tent for the upmarket brands like Mountain Hardware and MSR. Besides unless you are going on an expedition you dont need anything to fancy.

    Wow this could be the general tent upgrade for me! I want a 4 season number and that cloud peak you reviewed looks good - solid enough for sure. A couple of zip up draft covers would seal the deal. But this could be the general hiking tent for down to zero C... I'd prefer something with this simple design around the 1.5kg mark but you either pay silly money for that or cop a weight penalty for a reasonable price... I reckon thanks to your vid I may have made my choice! Might be time to sell my cloud up...

    If you are 6 feet and the tent is 210 cm, there should be even more space left. :)) My guess is that the tent is not 210 cm. Why not measure it?

    Thanks for this last clear advice to buy this tent, even by owning an old JW Dragon which has almost the same construction and design, by 1kg more weight.
    But let me ask two questions:
    1.What is the smallest packsize possible, incl. poles (length/diameter)
    2. As you seemed to have the same "tent philosopy" and already checked through several Ailbaba supplier and tents, which tent would you recommend if I would like to further reduce packsize by similar weather resistance (no walking stick typs) and wood green, of course. Weight is secondary as MTB/Enduro usage in mind.

    Its a low altitude 3 season tent.. Will do a job. Stupid wind velocity, high altitude best bang for the buck.. Mobi Garden Xue Mue. North face mountain 25 clone... 133 bucks USD..Aliexpress. Cracking bit of kit . With carbon fibre poles upgrade and some small mods, with Delta ground anchors..Its a winner...And standard pack weight is better than N.F. P.S. Just discovered some seller on Amazon.de are clearing their stock . Picked up a Robens Kestrel 2018 version for 199 euros... High spec solid dome tent...

    Great review. I’m really interested in this tent. I’m looking for a 3 season double skin tent for uk conditions and also hiking in Southern Europe. I’d be really interested to know what your experience in high winds was like. On paper it looks stable but I’d love to know the actuality.

    • @thegearshed2128
      @thegearshed2128  3 роки тому +1

      It's a good tent made better with the 5 season inner as there's less dripping of condisation and warmer in wind. Wind wise it's ok as long as it's pitched in a sheltered area it's not that wind resistance as the sides are steep so catch the wind alot, but it's a 3 season tent so not designed for high winds I will be fine for spring/summer in Europe

  • @kc3718
    @kc3718 5 років тому

    over time those guy attachments will saw into the poles as they rub against one another under pressure from the wind, and then the poles will fracture once weakened. Seen it in other aluminium applications that have far less movement.

      I like the cloud peak alot it's a great tent ( stronger than this one but not good if your over 6 foot) this is a good summer tent because of all the mesh,it's not great if there's any strong winds mind due to its pole layout it will deform alot.
