"Dvergr" is just Icelandic/Old Norse for "dwarf". As for the dverg/dark elf thing, the mythology doesn't really distinguish between the two. And "Gothi" was a type of pagan priest/leader.

Been working mostly, but my group and I are test-playing Tomb of Beasts II. We had planned to meet for actual table top sessions, but I've had to dive into Roll20 to maintain the quarantine. So far the creatures of TOBII have been awesome.
@@MrTarrasque As a contributor to the Kobold Press Tome of Beasts II kickstarter I and my group were invited to play-test some of the creatures. When the kickstarter was over Kobold Press sent 10 creatures to test. I just got finished testing 3 of them with my group this evening and they are absolutely fantastic. Basically I do a 1 room/environment setup and just drop the players in arena style. We're just testing, so there's not a lot of plot, but I do try to surprise the players if I can. The players rolled up characters of the correct level for the creatures and I run them through to see if the creature feels like he's got the right Challenge Rating for that level characters. So far it's seemed almost perfectly balanced. The players are challenged to the point of real worry, but not TCPs - though one character did die this evening. Probably told you more than you wanted to hear, but it was a blast.

I think it'd be fun to play a monk in this setting or a wizard, or really anything that doesn't fit. Just be from far lands. Could be interesting depending on the group& DM.
@@MrTarrasque sure, you miss out on making your character fit the setting and all their fun new options. But not fitting into a setting is a good excuse to be an adventurer. Warlocks could also be fun. Especially of you think if them as more magical and less divine clerics.
@@MrTarrasque gollum for example is basically a stone troll from nordic myth if I remember well. As well as dwarves and elves wich were create in nordic mythos. The Ring is also an important part of those myths.

I'm a huge fan of Viking culture and myth, so I'll certainly be giving this and Journey to Ragnarok a look.

I agree with the Performance roll to the Bard. They must use they art as focus for their spells, their magic is linked to it.
Jotun (frost giant) so half giant... Kind of like Loki's backstory in the MCU
Jötunn is the Norse word for giant I think. Meaning the half-jotun are just descendants of the giants
