Rhyming Words Lesson for PreK and Kindergarten

- In this video, you will see me teaching a whole group mini lesson on rhyming words. I am so proud of my students because this was the second day really getting into it. I also got the strategy of swirling from Kindergarten Readers here on UA-cam. :)

This is awesome teaching. I'm currently in school for education (TESL) and I had to do an assignment where i write an activity plan for teaching rhymes.
I like when you said "kiss your brain" lol! It's the little things, teaching them self love in addition to praising them. I like this whole mini lesson and I can tell you are very real with them. Great work
The best teaching I found for rhyming. My son said he had a hard day with this so I went searching and most videos had too many songs. I think more teaching videos should be uploaded. Songs are okay too but I appreciated this classroom teaching

Yes, I can try lol it is a hard skill for them and I only go over it briefly. ❤️ Def them learning how to produce rhymes and knowing what the beginning sounds is will help.

ii couldnt understand the kids, when you swirl the word, are you saying the sounds individuals or just saying the word multiple times? I think its cute either way
They are saying the end sound multiple times. For example, cat at at. Then I’ll ask what sound do you hear at the end and they would say at.
I think this was OK, except for the fact that I feel like you’re telling them that the word has to LOOK the same at the end when that’s not necessarily always true when rhyming words. There are words that don’t look the same at the end, but they sound the same at the end. For instance heard, word and bird, those three words sound the same but have different spellings at the end. Just wanted to point that out because I was teaching my daughter and then we watched this video and it kind of confused her a little bit.
Thank you for your opinion and you are definitely right. This was just ONE way to teach rhyming words and this lesson would go for word families if anything.
Since I was writing the words I stuck with simple CVC words since they were 4 years old. (And most couldn’t even read just yet) I have also taught my student to recognize rhyming words by listening only.
