American pride and exceptionalism on display here. If you needed it or wanted it, it was made in the US. Even though I was born in '94, when the floodgates of globalism were just opening, this brought tears to my eyes.

I was born in 93 and they don't build this stuff anymore. Globalization was indeed going on.

How big was that factory in this video? When did Whirlpool grow?

I remember watching some of the guys, employees I suppose play softball across the street, not sure if it was fastpitch or 16" but it was fun to watch.

Wow, that's when whirlpool represented quality. These were made out of metal and heavy. Now they're made out of plastic and their light, disposable machines.

I wouldn't be surprised if that washing machine in this video was the exact same washing machine that ended up in our utility room back in '53.
I remember that "Sunitizer" lamp, but if those sunitizer lamps really helped freshen the laundry, how come washing machines even today don't UV lights in 'em? yeah I know - the sunitizer lamp wasn't a UV light at all. it was just a blue light bulb.

@@SuperOlds88 As far as appliance manufacturers go, I think Whirlpool was the best. Not what they used to be but I have a current commercial top load washer and refrigerator made by them.

More like horrifyingly inefficient, kilowatt-burning, 70-gallon-gazzling, clothes-shredding, detergent-diluting, lazy-spinning, unbalanced ancient top load boat anchor. Sadly, Americans are still stuck in the top load dark ages and just refuse to give up top loaders even though not a single hospital, hotel, or institutional laundry room ever incorporates anything but front loaders.

Oh please! The new front loaders mildew constantly! They don't clean with a stupid cup of water!@@dregenius

@@jeromedavis8575 LG has a two-position latch that allows you to leave the door ajar when not in use. I have three units that were haul-aways that I've been testing for over two years, and I found that despite one with infrequent use and another unit with almost daily use, leaving the door ajar like this *completely* eliminates the mold issue.. and all three machines are in an unconditioned basement. It's literally not an issue but for reasons I cannot fathom, American consumers seem to say "I don't want to have to do anything special!" which I'm starting to think should be read as: "I won't be told what to do! I have FREEDOM! I'll just buy a top loader that cleans way worse, last about a quarter as long as an LG front loader, spins half as fast and costs me thousands of dollars more in electricity for the dryer because I'm FREE to be needlessly wasteful!"
Ever see the *actual mound of dirt* the grows around the shaft that drives the agitator/impeller? It's *WAY* more gross than a gasket with some detergent residue, and since front loaders don't have an area of low water turbulence like a toploader, they don't suffer the issue. There's a reason hospitals and hotels use *only* front loaders - they're immensely more hygienic than a trashcan with a prong in the middle. lol.

I wish the whirlpool washing machine factory was like this today. That’s the time when things were built better and lasted long long time and actually cleaned the clothes unlike HE top loaders that don’t clean clothes very well. Warranty was never the thing during these days since people didnt have issues with these machines, especially with computer chips or modern HE wash plate to get in the way, plus it used plenty of water to get the clothes clean in just a half an hour without all this load sensing BS, like just wash and dry your clothes. Sadly, these days are long gone and now today’s machines are made to fail after a couple of years. I wish I had this machine today.

It's interesting how whirlpool designed and engineered their washers and dryers. I wish we could find the GE demo videotape from 1995, or the new whirlpool design 2000 demo from the 1980's.
