Melatonin can cause you to wake up in the night, especially when taken at higher doses. I can't even take 0.3 mg without waking up after 4 hours and being unable to sleep again - followed by next day drowsiness! Also try going to bed for just 8 hours and using an alarm to wake you up, so you don't sleep for longer than necessary, then you will probably sleep better at night.
I took melatonin for the first time when I was already sleepy. I wanted to see if it would help me go to bed faster. I took 2/3rds the recommended dose because it was my first time. I was so knocked out during sleep that I didn't wake up to go to the bathroom and wet myself in my sleep.

Personally, I do wish this channel mentioned in the section about kids, that there are children born who have difficulty producing the hormone on their own and that in those specific cases melatonin treatment can encourage the natural production. I couldn't produce the hormone after I was born, and until I had a melatonin treatment when I was 6, I literally only fell asleep when I was so exhausted I could collapse from it. It was everything but healthy, and whilst my sleep quality is still often terrible and restless, it's better then being incapable of it.
I’ve taken melatonin, the recommended dose on the bottle, and it always gives me anxiety, and can make me feel uneasy. Also, I get bad dreams and wake a couple of times during sleep. I guess it’s different for everyone. But definitely don’t take the whole thing if it’s your first time. Learn how it’ll affect you individually.

Good news. Something you guys should know about melatonin. Melatonin is also actually capable of preventing cellular telomere reduction (which is responsible for why we age and grow old.) I knew it was capable of helping you sleep but I never thought that it would be that capable of preventing cellular telomere reduction either.

I once accidentally took melatonin before I go to school for our final exam. At first I thought I took a brain exhancing pill to help me stay focused and active. But by the time i got to school, dang by the time melatonin hits me I was knocked out during exam and my saliva is dripping down into my test paper 😂 My teacher let me go home and take my exam again tomorrow.
Melatonin works but u have to take at least an hour before u sleep even 1.5 hours until your eyes closing. 3mg works well. You may have some slight grogginess in the morning though this will subside.
It's probably different for everyone but what I've found is there's a sweet spot of taking melatonin and going to bed, and if you stay up longer than you should have after taking, it actually makes it harder to fall asleep.
If we take it regularly them won't it effect our brain? I mean won't our brain stop producing or produce less melatonin and become dependent on us to induce it to our system manually?
Is it wrong for me to say that the last 4 nights of taking melatonin 2mg, I'm only taking 2 pills of it each night around about 10 or 10:30pm and when it takes affact i woke up an hour or an hour and a half sometimes it's on and off or just can't go back to sleep. Then I'm just laying their in bed so very, very fustrated and kicking my legs because I can't get back to sleep until 3am in the morning and then wakening up at 6 or 6:30am. Also I get really drowsy in the morning, get stomach "what to vomit" and muscle pains "leg pains" after the earily morning rise is that normal. On top of that, I also have anxiety and depression which doesn't help as will, including the bad sleeping habit that i have. Is this normal when taking melatonin or no ???
Sleep hygiene is best as he suggests. Yeah blue light messes up pineal gland. I went from 3mg of melatonin hormone to 6 and had a 6 hour panic attack mixed with feeling super weird, dizzy, slowed breathing and moving was difficult. I skipped sluggish and went to fear and a horrible headache next day. Definitely start small.
The logic that just because your body makes it, it's okay for you to take is ridiculous. Human growth hormone or testosterones is natural. Is it okay to take? The answer is absolutely no. The reason why people can't get sleep is because they lack exercise during the day and do not get enough sunlight. I guarantee you, if you exercise 2 hours a day and have 2 hours sun each day, you will beg to go to sleep. What could happen is if you take melatonin too long, your natural production of melatonin could reduce making it more difficult to go to sleep.
I been taking it for about a month now. It does help a lot. But i started to feel a bit anxious or jittery. Some days very tired. My son passed away 16 months ago and i really need rest. Maybe a better brand.
Sorry for your loss. Hopefully, you are doing better. Please take homeopathic Ignitia 30c for your sleep. This specially helps if you are grieving for a loved one. Take one pill under your tongue at bedtime. And please don't have coffee with homeopathic treatment, or it won't work. Also, don't touch the medicine with your hands. Tilt the medicine (one pill) in the cap of the bottle and put it in your mouth. Buy the Boiron brand from Whole Foods. Good luck.
I've heard it's really not good for you at all. Valerian root is a good alternative (you can take it in pill form, I've been taking it as 400MG). It didn't make me drowsy per se, but I fell asleep quickly. Had more vivid dreams, and woke up feeling well rested. It's apparently good as an anti anxiety too. It DID however, make me feel more drowsy initially when waking up, also a little dizzy for a few hours. This might suggest a lower dose. Valerian looks like it needs more research, but so far it has no evidence of being harmful from what I've personally found (there are some suggestions it could affect heart rate by lowering it, so if you have heart rate issues it's better not to take). Do your own research though, don't take my word. But it seems to be a safer/healthier option, with less extreme effects (won't knock you TF out you'll just have a good steady sleep). I need to do more research on Melatonin though.
I've done everything from the good and the bad and the ugly, valerian makes it on my list of no side effects, no mornings headache like melatonin , no groggyness, just made mildly done with being awake for a few hours. No withdrawals but it does need to be tried a few nights in a row for your body to do whatever it does to get effects from it. I would make a mild herbal tea with chamolile. Before you take anything , it you're not A. - cutting caffeine 10 hours before bed B. - cutting electronics entirely 2 hours before bed. (you wont do it though, don't kid yourself- you're a weak dopamine addict with no control. ) C. Exercising or stretching in some form or fashion, daily D.- not eating trash and garbage seasoned with waste E. -relatively alcohol and stimulant freeishish Then you could consider a look at those areas first, as any one off the list will jack your body up and jacking it back with drugs will leave you all sorts of jacked of...ummm...you know what I mean. Now ignore everything and go Hondo a bunch of drugs back and forth cus it's way easier until you get old and it hurts to move cuz the liver exploded and the heart corroded
@@dont.ripfuller6587 . Of water put it in the microwave for a minute and 30 seconds I go back to bed and put the cup near me let steep for 5 to 10 minutes drink it and just relax and before I know it I'm having dreams and I wake up 3 to 4 hours later so I end up getting 7 to 8 hours of sleep and feel great in the morning no side effects, in the past 2 years since I discovered this tea it has only fail to work one time out of at least 200 times, so it works 99.5 % of the time.
Your pineal gland and your cell mitochondria produce Melatonin all the time ,if it was an "endangerment " to your body it wouldn't be produced naturally.
I've been taking 1mg every night for months. But I'm afraid of what I might develop as consequences later on. Right now, no consequences except maybe drowsiness. I've been sleeping so much better generally and feeling better. It's definitely better than sedatives.
I don't think there will be any consequences because it's naturally produced in the body. Also, it's just a supplement not a pharma drug. When you take melatonin, your body has got a decent amount through the tablet/supplement and it will help you sleep. Because when you stay up at night looking at LED screens, it can prevent your body from producing melatonin naturally so you supplement it & stop using phones/tablets/tv an hour before sleep.
i take melatonin and i start to feel it in 15 mins and if i don't fall asleep within 25 mins of taking it im screwed and pretty much don't sleep all night. but if i fall asleep when i feel it kicking in i don't wake up all night.
My wife and I have occasionally administered melatonin to my 90 year old father to aid with sleep and anti anxiety issues with his dementia and he always winds up with diarrhea so perhaps a word of caution here there are side effects possible and it should have been mentioned so it makes me question that this doctor is fully knowledgeable on the subject.
Have you heard about berberine to fix/ cure dementia…if you try this please let me know. It needs to be 3 times a day for 3 months to see a difference. There is growing info saying “dementia is diabetes of the brain”. This vitamin is like Metformin. Your family member should have the fasting blood sugar, A1C, and insulin tested. ( Yes, insulin , your doc might not want to do this, you might need to pay out of pocket. ) This is all about insulin resistance type treatment. A person can have normal blood sugars and normal A1C, and have the brain wear out because of the insulin overproducing i believe( still learning about this process.
@@mmamormon idk it just worked better. Since melatonin is not regulated im guessing some companies water their products down or add things or something.
Melatonin is made in our bodies naturally, using serotonin as a base, from which I can remember. I found out that's why I couldn't sleep well when I felt low on "happy hormones" and high in cortisol

@@Cosmo_P0litan that's true, but as we get older we don't make as much melatonin in our brain. Most melatonin that you get otc is plant based so it's not that bad for you.
You can get all the melatonin you need by being in the sun a lot or in a far infrared sauna. If you take it on a regular basis the pineal gland thinks it does not have to make it anymore. All this is according to Dr. Berg.
I would love it if I could get to sleep. Melatonin don't work for me. I could be in the dark, not on my phone or anything, and in a cold room, and I'd still be wide awake
Melatonin doesn't help?? I've been struggling with this too, but 5mg to 10mg helps for me. Breathing exercises help too, for me I just focus on peaceful imagery right before I exhale. When I stress out mentally my breathing becomes faster and I stay awake. Lastly I use earplugs and nightshades because I'm a light sleeper as well. I hope this helps!!

But the problem the pharmacist is not advicing this they follow what is written in the bottle like when i asked what is the best sleeping aid he gave me supplements with mix of Mg valerian gaba passion flower when i took it it is effective but when i look the dose melatonin 7 mg so it indicate in the bottle 2 caps at bedtime so it means 2 caps 14mg and im worried how to stop this supplement cause i sleep yes but not like before i sleep natural with good feelings im worried about side effects and recently i took it cause insomnia affect my work so this is only way i can do and im 55 years old.

Good news. Something you guys should know about melatonin. Melatonin is also actually capable of preventing cellular telomere reduction (which is responsible for why we age and grow old.) I knew it was capable of helping you sleep but I never thought that it would be that capable of preventing cellular telomere reduction either.

There is also cellular melatonin made in our cells by the near infra red light from the sun and has a different function than sleep.

Before you take anything , it you're not
A. - cutting caffeine 10 hours before bed
B. - cutting electronics entirely 2 hours before bed. (you wont do it though, don't kid yourself- you're a weak dopamine addict with no control. )
C. Exercising or stretching in some form or fashion, daily
D.- not eating trash and garbage seasoned with waste
E. -relatively alcohol and stimulant freeishish
Then you could consider a look at those areas first, as any one off the list will jack your body up and jacking it back with drugs will leave you all sorts of jacked of...ummm...you know what I mean. Now ignore everything and go Hondo a bunch of drugs back and forth cus it's way easier until you get old and it hurts to move cuz the liver exploded and the heart corroded

You’ve heard wrong because melatonin is completely safe.
Melatonin does absolutely nothing for me, can take a handful & nothing happens, can’t sleep to save my life

It's more effective when naturally secreted from the brain.
Berg.
