After watching this video, I joined the New York Philharmonic Orchestra and it's pretty chill, I must tell you. Honestly though, it's a great video about how to handle, hold and clean the instrument. Very well made, with passion. THANK YOU!
After watching this video, I joined the Vienna Philharmonic - and it's WAY chill, I am obligated by contract to say. Honestly though, I don't even have a viola or play viola...
Wow that was very informative basic information! I have never played or owned any string instrument but now I do and knowing how to take care of it properly and have the right playing posture is great for me to start with!
I’ve been playing for about 7 years, made several All counties for high school and got selected for the top Philharmonic but it’s good to go back to the basics just in case I missed something
This is an excellent video to calmly introduce a very young child to the gentle handling of a viola and bow at their first lesson. But then, no follow up video on tuning and playing?
Man I wanted to play the Bass but then I realized "Ey, don't I have to go back and forth with a scooter and a backpack that almost weighs like 6 pounds??"
Video Title: how to play the viola Actual Video: 0:00 - how to clean viola 6:10 how to clean up 11:00 how to stand 12:00 how to hold viola 13:00 - how to play viola
After opening the case and releasing the viola, these instructions fell apart, as did the viola. Is the bridge supposed to be loose??!? Do I need to glue it in place??!? How do we tune it? What are we supposed to do with this solid block of rosin???!? Does it need some kind of preparation? Because rubbing it against the bow accomplishes nothing. I can't even scrape any off with my fingernail!
The bridge is held on place by the tension of the strings - if you're new to playing I would not try to set it up yourself, take it to a local music shop. The rosin will work on the bow if you scratch it slightly first, with a key or something similar to break up the smooth surface a bit.
HALF OF THIS STUFF IS COMPLETELY UNNECESSARY. NOBODY PUTS THEIR INSTRUMENTS UP LIKE THAT, AND WE KNOW DAMN WELL YOU'LL BE LATE TO ANYTHING AFTER THIS IF WE DO IT AT THE SPEED SHE DID.
Ummm I just got my viola from a music store..... no shoulder rest and no second bow, although there is a spot for it. Welp. The tag said “full viola set; everything you will ever need”
Pffft that isn't rest position. Rest position is when you have the end pin of the viola on your knee while holding the viola by its body and then have the bow in your other hand with the metal part on your knee. If you don't have your should rest on before your instructor gives you a task you're just going to annoy them. Also, never put the bridge in between your knees. That's hazardous. You could squeeze and mess everything up. It's better to put the shoulder rest on with the end pin on your knee as well. I've been playing for 4 years now one year with private lessons and no one has ever said the BS she has said for setting up your viola.
...this is not what I thought I was going to get when I clicked on this video. It's very misleading. The title says: "How to Play the Viola" when in actuality the video is about how to care for a viola, and even that isn't even accurate. It should have been titled: "How to Properly Handle a Viola if You're a Five Year Old who has No Clue What You're Doing." Or perhaps "How to Properly Handle a Viola: For Dummies" The only helpful part about this was the rosin application part and the pizzicato part. If you're going to make a video on how to play a viola, teach us how to do some scales. teach proper finger placement for each note and how to move up and down octaves. Not...well, whatever this was.
Maria Palomo c to the top and then the next to a year to go through it all over you can you tell the story of a man you have a Twitter day yuyyyy was a great weekend and a yyyyyyyyn r
I know, it's exciting. You play guitar and it's all EADGB. Then you wonder what the bass guitar is like, and it's all EADG, and you say, "hmm yes, familiar." Then you wonder what violin is like and it's that old GDAE, yes we get it. Then we get to the viola (and cello) and it's C.... WHAAAAAAAAT????!?
Although, the B string doesn't follow the same pattern as the other strings, it's SUPPOSED to be the C string. Huh! I guess guitar is wrong and viola is quite correct!
Josaen Ronquillo This comment section decided it for me. If these are the numbskulls that surround me when I’m playing the viola, I definitely won’t be playing it. Bye and hello violin.
@@zain4019 Late reply. Why do you care about opinions so much? You shouldn't care about it and keep playing your viola. I see these comments and I still want to get a Viola for myself. I don't care, and you shouldn't too just because of the comments.

Excellent video overall.
Only the last few minutes were how to play. Everything else was about handling. Her voice is so calming!
Came for the viola stayed for the voice.
If you can open the case slowly, you can open it quickly.
interesting
If you can say "We're sh*t!" slowly, you can say it quickly.
@@offtherails7585 loll
If you can rosin slowly you can rosin quickly. I knew I would find some fellow twosetters
Opening the case slowly for the first time is so satisfying though
Good video, though much of it is about preparation and cleaning the viola. 😅🎻
Yeah
well first and foremost, you need to learn how to take care of your viola right.
Yeah🎻🎻🎻😅😅😅
Thanks a lot this helped a LOT
Who’ watching in 2019!
@Samiyah Modjewski LOL I quit a few months ago. Refreshing to remind myself what I've escaped from

this video should be called how to think about playing the viola
Do you have to put Rosen on your boat for your violin every time?
This is an excellent video to calmly introduce a very young child to the gentle handling of a viola and bow at their first lesson. But then, no follow up video on tuning and playing?
Her viola is shinier than mine.
Maybe it is a new one.
Don’t turn on captions at 0:10
It took 4 minutes and 37 seconds for her to actually get the instrument out 😭
Thank you.

Man I wanted to play the Bass but then I realized
"Ey, don't I have to go back and forth with a scooter and a backpack that almost weighs like 6 pounds??"

I have a question tho...how a violinist can separate the strings with the bow cause they are pretty close to each other???!
The angle of the bow determines which string you'll contact

Ummm I just got my viola from a music store..... no shoulder rest and no second bow, although there is a spot for it. Welp. The tag said “full viola set; everything you will ever need”
Sophia S she said you may or may not need it.
12:47 ... ish. Ok, so how to take it out of case, put it back in. How to stand. How to sit. Literally nothing about holding the bow or how to bow.
That's good lesson with thanks.
use rosin not oil

How to open a viola bag, this should be the real title. Ridiculous.
She said “chellie”
Celli or cellos are both plurals of cello.

I agree
It's aimed at kids. Hence slow and clear instructions for even the most obvious stuff.
11:14 vuaaaaaat?
i didn't know where rosin came from till now
No playing until 13:13
My phone was dead on arrival
Elle nous prend vraiment pour des cons 🤣
this video is so incredibly extra
O shoot I’m going to be a bad viola player.
Bruh...I'm a violinist not a violist. I didn't even watch any videos related to viola. :/
Plus, wtf this video is so extra with every single thing
@ihavealifeok oh wow after 2 years I don't think I remember what I even thought off at the time.
I already know how to hold and play it.
That last name tho
Pls don't put the shoulder rest on like that

How to open the case... ? Is this meant for children? Wow. Wow. This is silly
stop talking
I found this completely useless! I think she took too long with the explanation of the actual bow and viola. Where are the instructions?
Step 1: play violin instead
