WSB have soft mount and if you set your drag to heavy, most likely you will be pulling hooks , drags need to be set lighter than when fishing for yellowtail, tuna, my setup for them is full glass rod so it bends nicely when those headshakes and a small reel nothing bigger than a penn 500 size reel with 40lb topshot
I have yet to target WSB this season but I will definitely apply these 5 keys when the squid comes in closer. Thanks for sharing Edward. Great video (congrats on pot fish)
The cobra is a great little boat. It's much smaller and faster than most charter boats. Usually a good crew too. Just remember to bring your own food. No cook on the cobra, just a microwave.
This video has me scheduling my next CA from for the White Seabass, thanks for sharing! Was a pleasure fishing with you aboard the Legend, hope to cross paths again!
Let’s go!! Those fish are amazing. I’ve got to believe it’s a pretty amazing thing to catch one of those fish hence the title. What a fish Edward reeling that thing in must have got your blood pumping! Tips were on point as always 👌amazing vid
Yes Steve! These fish, white seabass are such a species that require planning and active searching. It’s such a huge prize to land one. When you hook up on one of those, the pressure is on!
Can anyone be nice and share how to set yup the three swivel exactly? Also, I thought WSB hang around right under the top surface of the water but in this video they said drop it all the way to the bottom? I’ll be fishing Capitola in CA next week. Last week saw a guy pulled in 3 all 20 plus pounder and he said right on top of the water….
WSB can be in all water columns. high and low. three way swivel gets attached to the main line, a leader line on another part of the swivel and the sinker on another part of the 3 way swivel. 5 foot leader to a 7/0 aki twist hook. your sinker line is dependant on the depth of the fish you're marking. in this video, they were about 5 ft off the bottom with current so a 7 foot sinker line worked well to keep the bait off the bottom with the current.
Jumper BFT (bluefins) already showing in Nor Cal waters . They got to be in your area as well. WSB wise, as summer comes in the WSB will eat a bigger variety of baits. Line wise don't worry about 60 even 80 fluorocarbon on the top shot and tip. If WSB want to feed their gonna eat , There jumbo croakers that happen to be one of the best eating fish in the ocean.
@@Hook2Cook Magical is the 2022 study done that shows the WSB hatchery programs are now responsible for 30% of the WSB. CDFW suggested the WSB hatchery programs were a failure with as low as a 1% survival rate. The ( OREHP) Ocean Resource enhancement and hatchery program doing the hatchery raising has been largely funded by the public donating 2 million a year while CDFW refused to put in proper money to the restoration. The truth finally got exposed and CDFW is in a bit of hot water given their bad studies. WSB from the (OREHP) are showing up across California and its a beautiful thing to watch happen. Santa Barbara Fish market is also asking $28.95 a lb for the WSB this week. that's some motivation to go load up the freezer.
I believe you lost your 2nd fish because you fish swam underneath the boat and you didn't run up to the front of the boat fast enough like the captain asked you to do so. As result your line rubbed on the bottom of the boat making it weak and broke i believe. Great job hooking 2 and landing 1.
good job people, fish tastes so good bbq an i like scalop potatoes with cheese an chives awseome dinner, an yeah you cant have cheesey gear man it will just make you mad, good fishing trip hell yeah people,.....
Well, I just had to jump up and shout out "First" just to be selfish, now, I am going to sit back, watch the adventure and then make a worthwhile comment.
@ 08:22, the agony of defeat after a tough fight including the dip under the anchor chain. Those are some big fish! I am guessing a big fish fry would be in order!
@@time2unwind690 if it wasn’t a worthy endeavor we wouldn’t even be on the boat. Don’t knock it before you try it. This coming from a guy who surf fishes A Lot. Striper, halibut, perch are all cool but big game is still a challenge no matter the platform it’s caught from.
All good points and thank you for sharing them. I could not tell for sure in the video what type of 3 way swivel you used. I would only use 3 way swivels that are made from 2 real swivels. Do not trust the swivels made from a stamped ring with 3 eyes riveted to the ring.
Is the crew of this boat wearing a gray cap, and navy hoodie a complete novice? Their timing, technique, and placement of the gaff are all wrong. White sea bass is a type of bottom-dwelling fish, so unlike yellowtail or Dorado and similar species, they don't tend to thrash around much once they've surfaced. Therefore, there is absolutely no need to rush and gaff the fish in its abdominal area.
Do you agree with the 5 keys? Got your own Keys?
That’s a beautiful reel! It deserves to be mounted on an American made rod..Maybe United? There are many to choose from. Thanks for the video.

Dope video bro and congrats on 14k 🎉🎉🎉
Thanks B! Just sharing the great fishing
Great info's brother , just subbed. keep 'em coming.
Congrats on the jackpot fish!!!!
Lol even a blind squirrel finds a nut
John is a good captain, will put you on some fish, been on the cobra many of times😊

Good tip, thanks for that!
The karate kid with the fast hands catching squid!
Lol left out bobs slow grabs. He was wiffing every grab 🤣
Talk about adrenaline pumping action. Great video Edward, congrats for everyone who caught fish, and thanks for taking us along.
Thanks! Happy to bring you all along. My dad being one of them! He’ll be on the next trip. Hope he hooks up!
Your set up is dope AF 🔥🔥🔥

What size 3 way swivels were you guys using?
Size 2. But different brands aren’t universal size. Owner has a great size 2 that doesn’t tangle lines
Dude u have awesome vids

Great video. Congrats on the catch bro. I see you met my uncle daralle. Aka big D
Whaaaaat! Uncle D is so dope!
Ya i wanted to go with him , but couldnt get the day off. Lol
Where is the cobra out of?
Channel Islands harbor ventura
I lost my 1st WSB just like you lost that one by having my drag too tight. Nice one you got though.
I feel like boat fishing with electronics wouldn’t give me the same satisfaction as surf fishing. It’s all about the shore struggle
You FEEL like it would? So you haven’t tried it yet?
@@Hook2Cook no I haven’t, but when you pay to get on a fish I’m sure you don’t get the same feeling as well or do you?

Yes, he was such a great guy. We’re fortunate to have fished with him and his dad on the last trip on the cobra

Yes it’s my pb! Hopefully breaking it this year! Haha a few more trips left!
