The song by itself is actually about failure and giving up the pursuit of happiness, but still wanting to go back to a more innocent time when it seemed achievable.
This might just be the most important song in my life. I first heard it when I was smoking weed with a friend in high school, he put it on in his car. I was so high that it felt like I was inside the song. I always come back to this song when I'm having a stressful day, it helps me to relax. Well, it used to, anyway. Now it just reminds me of my past self, the one who had hopes and ambitions, the one that thought his life was actually heading somewhere meaningful. For a long time, I didn't even know the lyrics, I didn't have to. Upon learning the lyrics, they already made sense, the entire vibe of the song had already conveyed the feeling expressed by the lyrics. I can't stop listening to it, I never will. I'm probably one of very few people who found this song without the music video attached, but again, it fit perfectly. Those feelings of innocence, panic, social pressure, it just fit too well. The otherworldly being at the end a representation of society itself, everything that they didn't prepare you for when you were a kid. I miss the person I was when I first heard this song, but he was also one naive motherfucker. I'm sure I'll say the same about myself 10 more years down the line.
I love the music video. My interpretation is that it speaks about the uncertainty and anxiety many young people feel about their first sexual experiences. You can feel lost and frightened and trapped into feeling confused no matter what you do (in the video, if she gives in and has sex, she'll turn into a monster; if she avoids it, she'll still turn into a monster). Both having sex earlier in life and avoiding early sexual experiences seem to have negative social consequences, and the harmful views our society attributes to sexuality in general can make growing up so much scarier.
But the reverse will always be more harmful over time. Having no sexual stuff going on in your head is releaving, and I wish I could be an innocent little kid again. At the same time, making it awkward is wrong, but making it easily accessible and marketable is also wrong. An even balance would be good, especially for this new digital generation.
The lyrics are about a fantasy someone holds but fails in to the point where they get depressed, attempt suicide and fail, so they are left with no choice but to let the fantasy fade by living in pain. “The walls so high and you won’t feel. The moon is always spying on your fears I make it to the golden gate and fail So then you throw your fantasy away to fade” Pretty straightforward about its meaning. No vagueness. It has nothing to do with innocence. I don’t get where people are getting this from. Read the lyrics. It’s about lost hope and the pain of holding onto a fantasy no matter what reality presents.
+SuPeRsKiTtLeStAlKeR no your not when i seen the video i din't think of the video i thought of the music in the background and thought the video was just a illusion while the person that sang the song was trying to get you away from the real point of the song.
Luke Kraus That's pretty cool, I like that. First time I watched it I honestly forgot there was a song, and loved the art style and the effects. I didn't really even hear the song until I watched it the third time. I love the song equally as much as the video these days.
The video seems to mean something like this. From the eyes of a virgin or young person sex can look demonic and terrifying. It also has a lot to do with sex being pressured on young kids. Think about it. When the girl goes into the other world and sees the huge creature it could be like a young child walking in on his/her parents in the middle of sex and it would probably scar them. The monster was probably meant to be a huge sexual vision and it scarred the girl, it was too much for her, thus her eyes lit on fire.
the huge monster in the end is everyone else - society as a whole being consumed by sex and the pleasure of it. it wasnt too much for her to handle; her eyes on fire is symbolic of society forcefeeding her sex and trying to make her believe its a good thing.
This song has such a deep emotional meaning. You cannot let yourself get trapped in a situation based on pressure. Do not let others influence your decisions and have you regret it for the rest of your life afterwards. It just disappoints me that more people don't understand the true meaning of the song.
I thought of it as fear of growing up physically and mentally which she'd have to become a young woman and most men will "want" her. But your interpretation is much better than mine!

The song is about fears and the music video kind of depicts what teenagers fear about sexual pressure and it's soooo true. .-. I lost my virginity at 19 and thought my teenage years I had always felt the pressure of sexuality placed on me by peers.

I found it to be the most beautiful and terrifying thing I’ve seen. People are acting like this song was just terrible, but I loved it. I felt the same way! People kept saying it was horrifying and traumatizing to them, and that the video ruined the whole song. For me when I watched it.. i really related to the shy girl in the video, and it having a deeper meaning made the video super cool. :D
My interpretation of the song: "The walls so high and you won't feel. The moon is always spying on your fears." These lines refer to some sort of struggle/failure - "the walls" are the speaker's troubles and the comment about the moon emphasizes that he, the speaker, can't escape them. Note the imagery: darkness accompanies the moon/nighttime and "high" walls suggest an insurmountable problem. "I make it to the golden gate and fail. So then you throw your fantasy away to fade." The meaning of this line is a bit obvious - the speaker went to the Golden Gate bridge with the intent of jumping off, but couldn't do it. He then concludes that he has to live with his life, so he "throws [his] fantasy away to fade." The speaker had dreams, a fantasy that he wanted to live out. Now that he's failed to achieve that fantasy, he throws it away. "Oh and I take, take it in vain. So I fake, fake it again." The speaker laments on his efforts to achieve his dream. He feels his efforts were in vain because he ultimately never actualized his fantasy. This "fake" line is a bit tricky. I think the speaker decides to "fake" that everything is alright - that his fantasy can still be achieved and that despite how he miserable he feels, everything is OK. "To Tokyo network stocks I stream. All of my wasted dreams on the screen." This gives some insight on the speaker's "fantasy." He put his money, life, and dreams into his investments in an attempt to strike it rich, but it all fell through. It all fails, and he's put into the position from which he narrates the song. "Could I not take it in vain? Could I not fake it again? Can't I not take it in pain?" At this point, I think the speaker is falling apart and he can't cope with what has happened. He can't "fake" it anymore - he wants to escape, but he can't. "I've sent my heart away, like heroes in the rain." Figuratively, the speaker says he has sent his heart away. The "heart" is what makes us truly human - he's basically declaring himself too miserable to live on. A curious simile is used here - the heart is sent away "like heroes in the rain." Not really sure how to interpret that, but think to the imagery of rain - dark, and gloomy. Its connotation suggests misery. I like @isenyneon's interpretation from over at songmeanings... to quote him/her: "[he is] lamenting that he followed society's image of what's valuable."
@i hate anime I think the song is also about that, but focusing more on the relationship side of things. The video is fully about being introduced to sexual experiences.
i hate anime it’s called metaphors obviously when ppl have sex they don’t turn into tentacle monsters the music video is the innocent girls perspective of what is going on and what it feels like, the music video is about losing your innocence and how it can affect you

I'm not sure if I've said this before, but this song reminds me so much of the soundtrack for the video game Oxenfree. It has the vaporwave tranquillity but also the eeriness that the game possesses in such a beautiful way that I can't help but adore it. Can't believe this song is going to be 11 years old, this year.
Am I the only one who doesn't FREAK out about the music video because I'm mature enough to understand it's purpose and realize that it's true that Teens can have a fear of sex and have a misconception of what it really is and means? While all my friends were freaking out about the video, I was sitting quietly listening to the song and it's lyrics and I think thats what this song is exactly about. It's really good.
Randomly encountered this song while listening to music in Spotify and suddenly got sent back a decade where I first saw the music video. Never realized how good it was. Banger and a blast from the past.
To me, this song is about anxiety & the inability to take risks. Life & Relationships are about taking risks, but some people get too much anxiety that they push all of their opportunities & potential experiences away from them out of fear of getting hurt, only to see that they've hurt themselves in doing so. We take our anxiety in vain which pushes us away from doing what we want to do, and so we fake being comfortable with the place/bubble that we are clinging to, but deep inside, we are yearning to step outside of our bubble & take risks, explore experiences, not take our anxiety in vain. The term "sent my heart away" represents the tendency to distance ones emotions out of fear of rejection or pain, "heroes in the rain" represent the risks (heroes & courage) of trying something new, but having those risks/new experiences thrown away because of distancing oneself or having too much anxiety/fear. The music video itself represents this concept, as we see a teenager who is full of anxiety in taking the risk of exploring a new world & having new experiences, such as sexual interactions, alcohol, & adulthood. In the mind of the teenager, the new things she encounters are very foreign & alien, and that's pretty much the way that the video tries to interpret it.
Brings me back to 2011 in middle school when I had my first love out of all my exes she still meant the most to me I remember showing her this song it will always have a special place in my heart I wish I could go back
THESUSHIRECORDS'S video is TOTALLY negative looking, but once you look carefully I think its about a girl who has friends that has a "sexlike" society, and she isn't sure on if she should do it and join in. When the guy and girl starts making out, they come to her. The guy that likes the girl doesn't know what's wrong. But she imagines that they are monsters. Putting pressure on to her, she wants to go to a new world. :) (check out the video and understand..)
She wants to go to a new world and finds out everyone else is the same. And she dies in the end anyway, she presumably kills herself for being outcast.
Its hard to actually understand what they say without the lyrics unless you pay close attention. Seeing the lyrics and understanding the song its absolutely beautiful. Definitely one of my favorites.
I miss the 2010’s so much. If I could go back but still be the same age I am right now I would probably be able to understand everything I couldn’t before because I was little

Guys, the magical thing about the video is that this song is so peaceful and sorta nostalgic, and the video is terrifying. That contradiction is exactly what makes that video so good. Imagine it with a heavy metal song. Too obvious, doens't give any chills. You're already expecting something heavy or bizzarre in a heavy metal music video...
To me, this song sounds like it's someone reminiscing about their past. And while the song sounds a bit upbeat and hopeful, the words are melancholic and without hope. That's just my interpretation.
C Boom That's what people have said, I have yet to see anything official by the makers suggesting it had to do with that (Though it would make perfect sense).
I really thought the mv was cool but its hard to pay attention to the music when there is all those fantastic visuals. When I finally looked up just the song, I was so obsessed with it. Thank you!
If the video wasnt so disturbing i could have enjoyed the music Everytime i listen to this song i just remember the video, shame as the song is a masterpiece
Also, it's wonderful to hear the whole version for the first time! I'm quite happy I was forced to come here instead of the official video in the end. :]
I've returned to this song after years of avoiding it and finally, FINALLY, have successfully divorced the music from its visuals, which is a bone-deep relief. And yet, even if I can't remember the exact images I still remember 2:20 as the moment where I scrolled down so fast I nearly set my mouse on fire (probably saying something like "*JESUS FUCK NO*), violently closed the browser, and sat numbly for around 5 minutes or so. though I think I was about 1:40 where I realized "...I shouldn't be watching this something is VERY WRONG." As someone who can barely handle the mildest of haunted houses and detests gore, I had to sleep with night lights on for at least a week :)))Anyway. It's a good song.
I don't have a clue what the music video looks like. I found this song through spotify when I was making a playlist and I just can't get enough of this song. It's something I can have on repeat for hours and hours.
The music video is about Cthulu. It's simple if you know about the cult piece. Basically, the two lovers offer themselves to Cthulu by committing sexual sins and the remaining girl jumps into Cthulu's realm (the pool) and she becomes blinded by Cthulu and dies because no-one is supposed to touch the pool or see Cthulu.

"I make it to the golden gate and fail. So then you throw your fantasy away to fade."
The meaning of this line is a bit obvious - the speaker went to the Golden Gate bridge with the intent of jumping off, but couldn't do it. He then concludes that he has to live with his life, so he "throws [his] fantasy away to fade." The speaker had dreams, a fantasy that he wanted to live out. Now that he's failed to achieve that fantasy, he throws it away.
"Oh and I take, take it in vain. So I fake, fake it again."
The speaker laments on his efforts to achieve his dream.
All of my wasted dreams on the screen."
This gives some insight on the speaker's "fantasy." He put his money, life, and dreams into his investments in an attempt to strike it rich, but it all fell through. It all fails, and he's put into the position from which he narrates the song.
"Could I not take it in vain? Could I not fake it again? Can't I not take it in pain?"
At this point, I think the speaker is falling apart and he can't cope with what has happened. He can't "fake" it anymore - he wants to escape, but he can't.
"I've sent my heart away, like heroes in the rain."
Figuratively, the speaker says he has sent his heart away.
@i hate anime they are not fools and you are a fool for thinking so because the thing they are discussing is the music video not the song.
@i hate anime I think the song is also about that, but focusing more on the relationship side of things.
The video is fully about being introduced to sexual experiences.
i hate anime it’s called metaphors obviously when ppl have sex they don’t turn into tentacle monsters the music video is the innocent girls perspective of what is going on and what it feels like, the music video is about losing your innocence and how it can affect you
@@terrazaleski2364 but the video isn't even anime?
EpicShibe XD yes ik that i was just mentioning the guys name @ihateanime plus why tf am i even awake rn it’s 4 am in the morning lol
This song when high is amazing.
agreed
Listened to it after smoking a spliff sprinkled with coke. Magic
This song will forever put me in a trance. This, Aqueous Transmission by Incubus and Weird Fishes by Radiohead are the most relaxing songs of all time. If you haven't heard the other two, please go check them out really quick, you won't be upset.
I liked the weird fishes one a lot ,thanks
Aqueous Transmission is so good, I wish they followed that direction more on their later records
Radio head is out of this world just been listening to some of they're songs and a series I've been watching called cold case has a couple in they're if they're songs
Still such an ethereal song after all these years
As someone who first watched this like 12 years ago i cant believe people still have interest in this. If you know what i mean i love you homie and you should be proud. Dye fantasy was the original wtf UA-cam video❤️ great song guys, just know its twelve years old and i still looked this up. Please make more music
Fair point. Never really connected the two.
i keep coming back to this song to remind myself I still exist
i feel you man, it's a struggle sometimes
Is existing any good? Is better to not be aware of this shit
Am I the only one who doesn't FREAK out about the music video because I'm mature enough to understand it's purpose and realize that it's true that Teens can have a fear of sex and have a misconception of what it really is and means? And I just listen to the music and never think about that video..... i mean damn people it aint no big dealio.
Yep, you are the only one.
Hey I understand the symbolic message of the video, however that doesn't erase the fact that it still is a massive distraction from this good music
What if I told you that you can be terrified of the horrific visuals of the music video and AND also be understanding of the themes and symbolism that the creators are trying get across?
Sarah Mack Boo-hoo, it's the fucking internet police. Go and ruin someone else's fun you fucking bellend
Sarah Mack O rly? How about the part with me having to "go somewhere else"? Don't you think I'm entitled to my own opinions regardless of whether or not the original comment is a month old? I wouldn't go all out to insult you if you weren't being a bit too lame
This is literally one of the most coolest Songs I've ever heard ... Also, the Music Video tells so much, it's just awesome ... I am absolutely in love with this. Keep up the good work. :3
most cool or coolest. no such thing as most coolest
Your teh worsest
I love the music video and the song
I loved the music video for this great song.
EAT THIS
This song has a really weird vibe, it's kinda creepy after watching the video. It's something I will never forget.
that's something especially coming from the black swordsman.
Big Boi haha :)
Me: Wanna listen to fantasy by dye?
Friends: Whats that?
Me: A good song, here I'll play it
* types it in and the music video shows up *
Friends: Ewww that's that tentacle pool video nevermind I hate that
Me: But the song is so good
Friends: I don't care that video is weird
Me: ._.
creamy I can relate :'/
creamy just play the song and not the video
Dude at this point in life you should know that you cannot make somebody love something. It just have to happen.
awwwe..... im sorry your friend is like that xc
i think the music video is very good too tho, beautifully animated
While all my friends were freaking out about the video, I was sitting quietly listening to the song and it's lyrics and I think thats what this song is exactly about. It's really good.
First saw this in 2016 thinking this was a weird video and now I'm here living in 2022 loving this song now
Golden geek? pretty sure it's golden gate
I think he got the first line wrong too. I hear 'the world's so hard' not 'the wall's so high'
ragefast I think you’re the one who is incorrect in this instance. Every website that has the lyrics for this song has “The walls so high”
Randomly encountered this song while listening to music in Spotify and suddenly got sent back a decade where I first saw the music video. Never realized how good it was. Banger and a blast from the past.
I loved all of the animation and the song, the song completes the animation.
Brings me back to 2011 in middle school when I had my first love out of all my exes she still meant the most to me I remember showing her this song it will always have a special place in my heart I wish I could go back
I remember listening to this while playing xbox with my friends over the summer... so much fun...
I know the video was weird but gawd I love this song XD
I feel like this is a song that I'd find in gta v on radio mirror park
TheWhiskeyZone Me too. Make that 3
+TheWhiskeyZone Hells yeah. I would've definitely welcomed this song with open arms in GTAV.
+Scarborough yeah!! great song for GTA V 👍👍👌👌
Facade fuck yeah dude I'd love to hear this tune in the game
THESUSHIRECORDS'S video is TOTALLY negative looking, but once you look carefully I think its about a girl who has friends that has a "sexlike" society, and she isn't sure on if she should do it and join in. When the guy and girl starts making out, they come to her. The guy that likes the girl doesn't know what's wrong. But she imagines that they are monsters. Putting pressure on to her, she wants to go to a new world. :) (check out the video and understand..)
She wants to go to a new world and finds out everyone else is the same. And she dies in the end anyway, she presumably kills herself for being outcast.
lowrider649 lol not really she dies at the end from too much corruption or seeing the world for what it really is as her eyes burst out her skull.
lowrider649 That's what it feels like whenever you're not like anyone else.
Damn that's clever, the only thing I inferred was fear. Pure fear.
JakeIsArtificial When you are a person who believes in much more, then you fear nothing. Fear is for the weak.
Its hard to actually understand what they say without the lyrics unless you pay close attention. Seeing the lyrics and understanding the song its absolutely beautiful. Definitely one of my favorites.
This song is really beautiful, I remember a couple years ago watching the animation and being shocked but it's art, like the song.
thx for this upload and the lyrics!
Okay but I love the song the music video just horrified me for life.
i think boku no pico will horrify u eternally
Hedric Jones I have seen boku no pico. didn't horrify me as much as this music video did.
What about mai chan's daily life?~ and also a live action of it is coming out.
+Fayme Wong ew why?
My little sister and i watched this video.I was like
''Ashley, don't watch.''
''Why? There is some bad words?''
''HUN PLEASE JUST DO NOT WATCH''
I miss the 2010’s so much. If I could go back but still be the same age I am right now I would probably be able to understand everything I couldn’t before because I was little
How about we all forget about that video, eh? Haha. Lets focus on the nice song.
dustyroad good idea
Just forgot about it and just remember it again
help
I miss the 2000s/early 2010s. Before I gained consciousness.
"Before I gained consciousness" damn...
that's real.
I actually love the song.... But dat video
Ikr
Always see beyond what you see, this video has deeper meaning and message.
the video ruined the song...
The video has nothing with this song just like ME!ME!ME! I dare you to watch it
Pls Mr.Rude guy i'm not talking to you pls know your place.
I feel like I’m in a time capsule back to the 80’s. 🙂🙂 Amazing music back then. Even if this song wasn’t from the 80’s, it still gives those vibes to me.
Don't you hate it when you go to a pool at night and your friends turn into tentacle monsters and try to kill you?
And even after you escape, you're eyes explode because you saw a giant titan?
The music video for this is just something you have to be high for.
#truedat
even when you're high its still a bad fucking music video lmao.
+heehaw132 What??? It's a great music video if you catch the meaning. It's not bad just because you took it literally
Lovely Ladybug Gaming No, you don't. You must be 12.
Lt Fat Rat i seen it with my frieads at 11
This will never not be my favorite song
Guys, the magical thing about the video is that this song is so peaceful and sorta nostalgic, and the video is terrifying. That contradiction is exactly what makes that video so good. Imagine it with a heavy metal song. Too obvious, doens't give any chills. You're already expecting something heavy or bizzarre in a heavy metal music video...
It's easier to listen to the music without the video. It's relaxing
I love the song.
the music video is intresting!
so I like it also .
When I saw the video I wasn't even paying attention to the music, good thing there's a lyrics video..
This video still remains even after that cursed animation is long gone.
To me, this song sounds like it's someone reminiscing about their past. And while the song sounds a bit upbeat and hopeful, the words are melancholic and without hope.
That's just my interpretation.
the song is so relaxing! i could listen to this while skating for hours
the first few seconds remind me of 2008 or something. And pools.
love the background it fits perfectly with the voice
im glad that i got to at least listen to this without watching the video. *back chills
This Song represents the inner child within me. Who has Lost his innocence and wants to go back to a time where his Dreams seemed in reach.
Weird ass video awsome song!!
I thought the video was thought provoking
Cheyenne Barnt It was
Cheyenne Barnt No shit XD
Cheyenne Barnt The video itself is just a storytelling of H.P Lovercraft aka. Cuthulu people thought it was more but it really wasn't.
C Boom That's what people have said, I have yet to see anything official by the makers suggesting it had to do with that (Though it would make perfect sense).
Both the song and music video are beautiful I wish I could lay in bed all day listening to this song ^~^
People say I'm messed up guess there right I prefer the weird video in the background X'D
they're*
I like the video lovecraftian horror is my shit
I love this song and the art to go with it. Such a wonderful backstory behind it.
R.I.P The music video.
Nostalgia
Right? Just realized it got taken off, So unfortunate
I really thought the mv was cool but its hard to pay attention to the music when there is all those fantastic visuals. When I finally looked up just the song, I was so obsessed with it. Thank you!
If the video wasnt so disturbing i could have enjoyed the music
Everytime i listen to this song i just remember the video, shame as the song is a masterpiece
It’s not about Cthulu ._.
@@denoobee art is up for interpretation
@@redram34 its not, what an artist do is to expres emotions. Now, lets say that you are and artist and as such you expres anger, love, sadness or whatever in a piece. Any emotion you expresed is the true meaning and is objective. Art that is to ambiguous is trash, thats why we have all this bullshit piece of trash conceptual art
@@Fandelgore Art is 100% up for your interpretation.
the music is really good. For some reason i always feel sleepy whenever i start listening to it (in the good way.)
Becuase the music is so dreamy and relaxing☺️
Removing this music video was such a miss. What a joke UA-cam is these days. Absolutely hollow to the core.
Thanks for uploading the song by itself so we don't have to get nightmares watching the music video.
Imagine listening to this song without knowing about the video 😂
My sister showed me this song and the music video when I was younger, such a good memory and a very beautiful song
Y’all should listen this theme while you’re high
I think the video and the song was a total piece of art, how the vid ended made me cry I thought it was really good
I used to be freaked out by the music video 6 years ago, but now that i've seen it again it's not that bad, i really like it!
+Raging Pervert It truly is just cool
+Raging Pervert once you get the meaning behind it, It's beautiful
I wouldn't trust a raging pervert's opinion
+Tess Martin Brony , really...
This is a song that is a blur between depressing and beautifully inspiring
Wow... Without the weird ass video this song really isn't bad
I love this song and the video was good too.
I *LOVE* this song!
i always feel high listening to this music...marvelous
Endly Anantha i do to
+Endly Anantha listen to vaporwave for a real high. Preferably Macintosh Plus.
DailyDoseof Dank Memes will try :)
Watch at 1.25 speed. This will increase the electronic intensity with which the vibe commits to the cerebellum. In other words, a spark of the intermittent flex.
such an amazing music video, actually leaves you with some sort of feeling and meaning, you dont see that kind of art in many music videos now a days, cant believe it got deleted
it makes me cry
it really does
I think the music video is beautiful. The animation. Everything.
