What you do next is up to you, but probably just another meaningless encounter in which the immediate excitement wins over a longer and more emotional connection. Isn't there another second problem: Most dating apps are aimed at finding somebody you will fall in love with (not just somebody to date). There's no feedback loop here for the AI to train on: Even if the AI had perfect information about the person, how is the AI supposed to learn?
At least okcupid asks (or used to ask) on disabling your profile if it is because you started something with someone you met on the app and if so with whom. I would also assume they do NLP on the messages that are being sent and would count e.g. the exchange of phone numbers as a strong signal for learning.
That Hinge feature has worked for me in getting the match, but doesn’t really speak to the quality of the date. I think the social signaling of “they’re more likely to match with you” ups the person’s appeal. Great video Jordan!
I don't think that's old school it's just common sense. You socialize with someone at a bar, club, etc. Start to chat, getting comfortable with each other, start laughing. If you enjoy similar hobbies/interests and like each other, you start giving out your phone number if you wanted to talk some more. If that person is interested in going on a blind date and everything turns out good, then your finally starting a relationship. I don't need a dating site/app to do for me. But then again everyone's different. 🤷🏾♀️

I have been working for almost one year on one of those app and the machine learning behind to provide quality match (like the 99.99% of netflix black mirror serie) but to be frank, getting users to open up is the real challenge and my small scale test are quite good so i hope one day OpenLove (or whatever it would be called) would be great for that actual dating.
I'd imagine a problem also being that dating apps are more interested in their bottom line than fulfilling their function. But an open source dating app would be better in that regard, at least somewhat interesting

Literally the first line of my profile was "I am a nerd", which I found isn't something many men appreciate in a woman. It probably put off a lot of people, but it was a great filter. My now-husband definitely wasn't put off and now we're a happy, very nerdy couple.

I meet my current girlfriend of 4 years on Whisper of all things after i gave up looking for a long term relationship on dating apps. In the two years i used them i think i only had one relationship that didn't last very long and one date. It was a total waste of time using them. I think one problem is you have women disproportionately get bombarded with messages while it's harder for a guy to do the same. As it's said in the comments, they aren't really made to find meaningful connections regardless of what they tell you. They just at best connect you to other people and everything else is up to you. Kind of warps your expectations a bit.

hey, i might actually need to thank you for helping me find the love of my life. on tinder. I know I have seen your video before, and based on the date of the video, I probably saw it before I went on a dating app the first time of my life. I am quite sure your video provoked my following thinking: since I really did not want to find somebody who just really gets excited about my straight-out marketable qualities, I didn't post photos where I - think I am - super handsome, didn't try to look wealthy or successful, did not include stuff about myself that I know would definitely get people interested (financial stability, career, i play guitar in a band, etc) but had a single weird - but smartly photographed - photo of myself - a pixelated reflextion of part of my face in a monitor, then 2 fairly average photos of me, that still did say something about me based on the composition of the photo, other than my looks. in my introduction i basically listed a couple of areas where I am lacking, just in order to not raise false hopes. but it wasn't an all out downer description, just wanted to differentiate myself from everybody who "likes music and likes to travel". for two weeks i had zero matches, then one person who didn't even want to communicate really, and then my soulmate whom I also find very attractive and we have the same outlook on life. I think it does work if you know how to create your own filters (they don't give you much by default, you can narrow down age and geographical distance) and if you know whom you are looking for.

(Heterosexual) dating apps users are majority male, it’s definitely harder for men to get matched in general.
This has been my experience exactly. The quality of girls I get in real life is significantly better too.
