Thank you for posting this. I have been thinking about the old route for some time recently now and remembering how it was in the 1970's/80's before it was closed down. There doesn't seem to be a lot documented about it. Hopefully i can clarify some points for you. Where the car park & flats are to the east of the retail park, used to be the old steam train maintenance sheds. These were closed & knocked down when the new shed was built at Halbeath. The remains of the turntable pit remained until the car park was built in the 1980's. You were able to see this from a small lane off Appin Crescent called Piggies Lane. The railway crossed over a bridge over Townhill Road before entering the Upper Station. Where Tesco now stands used to be the bus station. There was a path leading from the back of the station, past the rear of the factory to Foundry Street. This path took you over a metal bridge which crossed the railway. I think the railway appeared from the tunnel as it passed by the side of the factory. Unfortunately, as you will have noticed, it is not possible to access the viaduct or walk from the viaduct west until you reach the cycle path at Willam Street, Baldridge Burn.
I remember all that you are saying and bringing back all the memories when I used to travel from Ladybank to Alloa for about 18 months 2 years up till it closed, bringing the Forth bridge and also the swing bridge that used to open to allow the ships up with cement to the other side of the road bridge,and also at closing of the Alva and Kinross. And happy to see more lines getting opened, like the Thornton to Leven and onto St Andrews worked until it closed ,which I had 47 years of service with British Rail.
Doesn’t seem that long ago that coal trains to and from Comrie Colliery used to rattle by on that line, under the Pilmuir St bridge. You’d often see one whilst walking to the town on lunch break from QAHS. Then after the 85 strike, that was it I think for the colliery. Rails came up 87 ish.
I remember coming back to Dunfermline when the north station still stood (only just). I wish I'd had a camera back then. On the rare occasion I get back, I walk along the former line to Clackmannan, where it ends (though I don't know if it starts again later and continues to Alloa). In an ideal world, you'd be able to get to Glasgow from Dunfermline by train.
It's a pain trying to edit it all together, the app I use crashes at times and the sound goes out of sync if I do too much (as seen towards the end) but I love looking at the old maps and seeing what places were laid out like. Even places like Kirkcaldy where I grew up, there's places I never realised were different until seeing those maps.
One of the last workings I saw was a 37 on top of Buffies Brae viaduct, it was propelling a hydraulic platform and doing something over the sides of the viaduct. Early 1986, from what was the club rooms of the Dunfermline Cycling Club on Broomhead Drive, all long gone.
This video was interesting. I've lived in Dunfermline all my days and use the cycle paths regularly. I'm 50 years old but have zero recollection of the upper railway line at all. I'd like to get up on to that viaduct at Buffies Brae though. No idea if there is access. The path to Alloa past Devilla has a few old buildings from the railway days still there.

The Bridge still went over William Street for at least part of the 90's and what's now the path beyond that was ballast or at least behind Whitemyre Court was..
Sandie and Jennifer both had covid literally over Christmas, so it's been an interesting end to the year. Thankfully both OK now and neither me or Davie had anything other than cabin fever being isolated. Between that happening and your comments it's motivated me to go out again, so thanks Jim. Yes very interesting railway traveled over it in 1961 from Edinburgh via dunfermline to Stirling class 26 + 5 Thompson noncorridor coaches. The via this route in 1979 fraserburgh with a class 40 to Aberdeen called at dunfermline Upper think their is a photo I will try and put up

Yes travelled all over the UK as a volunteer on srps railtours in the 1970,s to 1989 best one was 1977-1979 ran day trips from scotlands to London as shoppers specials to London £10 a head 3trains carried 700 people per train all with reserved seats over 3 weekends a highlight of my unpaid work. Now I just read the railway magazines and your videos yes main thing is to have a job that you like doing to earn money yes I retired at 59 got totally pissed off thank god I don't have to work with idiots anymore. Ha ha. Enjoy life because that's what it's for. Thankfully I've a nice partner I met on a blind date in 2013 and we live in dundee. Your a great guy best wishes brian and mira in dundee

That’s the line to Alloa as I remember going there daily as the telegraph lines man.
It was a line that breeching never marked for closure so the closeure came from at different source
