- The Alloa Waggonway linked Alloa Harbour to the coal mines of Sauchie in Clackmannanshire. It opened in 1766 and closed in 1924.
Operating on a 3 foot 3 inch gauge, the route includes two tunnels. One of these has a credible claim to being the oldest railway tunnel in Scotland. although this is disputed.
Today there is some interesting remains at the harbour and a large section of the Waggonway is now a footpath through the town centre.
Join me on a walk as I look at the history of this line and retrace the route from the harbour through the town of Alloa.
