      I've let the rabbit loose all night sometimes. It usually sleeps in the bed next to me. Although it sometimes digs when it wants something, which has not always been easy to figure out what.

    i usually let my rabbits roam around my living room every 3 days a week, i can’t always let them out because i have a dog, and they’re also 4 months and are still learning, i let them roam outside as well but when i’m out there and watching them, is this good as a rabbit owner? i’m still researching some things heh.

    1/4 cup of pellets a day, 2 cups of veg a day, unlimited hay. treats only occasionally. rabbits are active in morning and evening so let them out then. that's it.

      A house rabbit is just like a dog and is house broken quickly! Rachel is absolutly correct on their diet.With ours, when it gets around 10pm, she jumps off her pillow on the couch and runs to her cage thats about 50 feet away at the end of the kitchen. There she waits for for her 3 raisins and a big blueberry. When she finishes she tries to close the cage door (we lock her in her cage at night, should there be a fire or something the first thing we grab is the cage),and then jumps into her hay box. In the morning, she pulls on the cage door, hops out and runs into the kitchen where her plate has a couple of breakfast veggies and her bowl of pellets. Like we said, they're just like dogs and crave attention.. :)

    Two more things: don’t bathe them unless you have no other choice, and don’t turn them on their backs.

    • @Kumahachi8
      @Kumahachi8 6 років тому +25

      +BerryJuice In what way does it look like your rabbit calms down? Does she stop moving and look like she's asleep? If that's the case, cease to do this immediately. When a rabbit is placed on their back, they experience something called tonic immobility during which the rabbit becomes paralysed and their levels of fear go through the roof. It causes them to look as though they're sleeping or dead, and they become unable to move. If your rabbit appears to be doing this, stop it. It's not good for the rabbit, and it can actually kill it.

    • @t_b_budgies9627
      @t_b_budgies9627 6 років тому +8

      Sarah Johnston you should never bathe them at all!!!! There fur would take days to dry

    • @Kumahachi8
      @Kumahachi8 6 років тому +10

      +Rozzy 13 It's not preferable, but if the animal is dirty in a way that they can't clean, or if the rabbit gets diarrhoea, especially as babies, a bath may be necessary. The owner can dry the fur in a variety of ways. It's the initial shock of the bath that should be worried about.

    Rabbit hutches are fine:)) As long as it's big and you take your rabbit out every day. Any cage big or small you always need to take your rabbits out to run around every day!

    • @arakwar

      My rule of thumbs is : if your rabbi can run in his cage, it is big enough to keep him in if you take him out everyday so he can explore and jump around. My rabbit rearranged stuff in his cage so he could have a "race track" and just run in his cage.

    About the food, It actually depends on what brand you have, how old your bunny is, and if your bunny is pregnent. Sometimes it will say how much on the back of the food bag. For example, I use Oxbow and my rabbit is 4 months old, I'm supposed to give her an unlimited amount. My other rabbit is 6 years old and I'm supposed to give him 1 cup a day.

    • @myfluffymonsters1308
      @myfluffymonsters1308 7 років тому

      After 4 months old your rabbit should only have like a 1/4 cup a day. My rabbits are 4 months and I don't feed them unlimited pellets, I never did. My other rabbit is 4 years old and I only give her a 1/4 cup of pellets a day:) I think you should cut down on the pellets a little

    One very important mistake is keeping a rabbit alone, they are social animals. It's important to always have another rabbit or f.e. a guineapig, chicken or any other animal that goes well with your rabbit. If you don't do this, they will eventually start to feel lonely....

      Rabbits and guinea pigs and rabbits and chickens should not go together. Chickens can give rabbits diseases even if the chicken is healthy, and rabbits more than likely will kill/attack a guinea pig.

    • @rashmi7051
      @rashmi7051 6 років тому +9

      Erin The Nerd :3 keeping two rabbits of same gender together is very dangerous even if they are sisters/brothers. They fight a lot. I had two bunnies. Both male. One of them mysteriously died at a young age. I googled about it and got to know that a bunny fight between same gender can lead to death of one of them. Just ask a vet or someone who's expert in bunny stuff and make sure about this information. Don't take a risk.

    This video is so good! May I just mention that when I first got Crunchie, I did overfeed pellets and not enough hay :/. He has got so much hay now and great amount of pellets so that is great. Also may I mentions that another mistake is not doing daily health checks. Every morning and night before Crunchie goes to sleep I check he has not got runny nose or gungey eyes. I also lift up his ears (as he is a lop) and check for wax buildup. Next, I check his teeth which is very easy as he lets me do this. And finally, I check his back end and make sure that is nice and clean. I groom at least 2wice in a month as he is NOT a long haired breed. Long haired breeds should be 1nce or 2wice a week. Please note that I have not had him for an extremely long time, only 3 days. I got him his play pen which we are to attatch to his huge double story hutch. We cannot yet tho as he hasnt got his vaccinations yet but will get them on Friday. :P

    Some of my rabbits love being held, others don't really care. If the rabbit likes and trusts you I don't see the problem with picking them up. Most of the time I just hold them in my arms while sitting on the couch until they get sleepy, nothing wrong with that.

    I have had more than one of my bunnies break their back when allowed in a large area. They get so excited they get to running around & kick up their hind feet & a vertebrae in their back snaps. I had bunnies have a broken back when I came to check on them, & wondered how it happened! It was my thinking that some animal had gotten in their play yard & broke their back, but not so, one day I actually SAW what happened. It was so sad for me to go through this with beloved bunnies! Judie

    The one about being "picked up & cuddled" is ABSOLUTELY false they may not like it but it doesn't loose their trust, they develope a whole new way of trusting you to keep them safe and learn to find spots in your arms to feel safe. So it is honestly good to pick them up and cuddle them and can actually make them calmer and more lovable towards you.

    Just saw this vid in recommendations and thought of some stuff you could add maybe a part 2?
    1. Do not bathe a rabbit ... The shock of it can kill
    2. Do not keep them alone, they are social and need a friend
    3. Please don't keep them with Guinea pigs, it's just not going to work. 2 different species will not get along! (Bullying can occur) Keep two of the same species together not two different!
    4. Don't buy brown or rotted hay. Buy the green (fresh stuff) rabbits won't eat the dry (brown stuff). Just a adding as I see it all the time in pet shop I've said to staff... They don't listen :/
    5. Learn yr rabbit body language and there normal actions. As this will make it easier for you to tell when somethings wronge!
    6. Learn the symptoms of G.I. Status .. This is deadly and is a silent killer if not treated as emergency (can kill in under 4 hrs). Once you learn how to recognise it you'll be a pro! Trust me!
    7. Vaccinate yr buns!
    8. Use xeno 450 as spot on (it's the best) especially if you have multiple pets in house eg like a dog. My dog (although I used spot on him) once brought in walking dandruff (rabbit cheyliettella mite) it was so sore! It was like fleas!!!
    9. Visually check rabbits every mourning and night! There very quiet animals so if there I'll they'll hide it!
    Hope these help ! If I think of anymore I'll add them!

    How do I stop my bunnies from selective feeding? As my bunnies came with the feed and I can't get them of off it. I want them to have mainly pellets but with a few odd treats in the mix. Every time i stop giving them the mix they don't appear to eat the pellets and I fear they're not getting the food they need for their diets as a result.

      Buy the right feed and then add a little to the feed they are getting now e.g. 10% new feed and 90% current feed. Gradually up the new feed each day and reduce the current feed til they are used to the new one. Take your time and it'll be fine.

      CoolBlue NightCore I know this is a year late and I hope your rabbit is still healthy, but you should feed them hay 24/7 it’s 80% of their diet, it gives them the fiber they need to digest their food, if their digestive system shuts down due to a lack of fiber they can go into something that is known as GI stasis which is very deadly and won’t show many symptoms until it’s too late, so just please go the extra mile to give him some Timothy hay, maybe orchard grass or meadow hay, he will thank you

    tbh the reason why your bunny doesn’t like being picked up is probably because you don’t have a good bond with her and she doesn’t trust you. my 3 year old netherland dwarf is free and likes my bedroom the most. he comes up to me and gives me kisses and sits on my knee, he loves cuddles and being picked up

    I'm soon getting my very first pet rabbit & I know very little about them, so I'm trying to get advice wherever I can. I'm physically disabled & spend much of my time confined to my room, so my mum is hoping to get me a small indoor rabbit that won't mind too much about being handled; sort of like a therapy pet. The hutch will probably be in my bedroom & the temperature of my room is always changing (although we have oil heating through radiators, I like to use an electric/remote-control fan to keep the room from getting too warm), though I've heard this is probably a good thing. I also just recently got a mini-fridge as an early 30th birthday gift, so I could easily keep fruit/veg inside it for my new rabbit. I'll be doing whatever I can to ensure my new pet is healthy & happy (& he/she will be very much loved), but I'll still need all the help I can get. I'd be very grateful if anyone here can possibly offer me some advice for looking after my new rabbit. Much appreciated... 💕✨🐰✨💕

    One of my bunnies always loooves to be held, carried around and picked up. He cuddles in my arms for hours.i never realized how lucky I was to have a bunny like that until I got Ollie, my second bunny. He likes to be pet, but he isn’t too social. He hates being held and cuddled. Anyways, awesome video! Great information. There are so many people that get bunnies without any research and that bunny has to go through it’s life in torture! Hopefully every rabbit owner watches this video :D

  • @DetectiveBree

    you NEED to hold your rabbit!!!!! sooooooooooo many reasons why!!!
    1; to check for fleas, or get shots, or to even clip their nails!
    2. they get bored an lonely very quickly! if you leave them cooped up all day and never touch them; then they become aggressive!!!!!!
    3; if your rabbit doesnt like to be picked up or growls at you, well then you need to pick them up more often! theyre scared and dont want anything to do with you if you dont care for them!!!
    4; if they freak out when you hold them, then that might be because youre holding them wrong.
    i have had many bunnies, my first bunny i never held because of what others said. but i got more and started to hold them more and their attitude changed!!! they all loved me! and not a single rabbit growled at me when i picked them up! they actually gave me kisses and wanted me to hold them longer! i set them down and they hop right back up to me!
    dont always listen to people, they may have wrong info, look up REAL info from someone who actually IS a rabbit expert!!!

    • @pshuckle7488
      @pshuckle7488 6 років тому +8

      You're not a rabbit expert, and your advice is terrible. If I were to listen to you, I would think my rabbit hates me. She doesn't. She hates children, unfamiliar women, and probably you if she met you. She also hates being picked up almost as much as she hates towels.
      I hug my rabbit (on the floor obviously). I cover my rabbits eyes and stoke her (it makes her feel safe). I stroke her to music (weird but she is really into it). I throw chew toys her way to play with (she only likes toys she can eat/chew). I let her follow me upstairs almost every time I go to get something (sometimes it's like hide and seek). She loves all of that. She loves me because she is bonded to me.
      Fuck you for suggesting she hates me.

      My rabbit would prefer not to be held but she doesn’t hate it and I hold her often I pet her which she loves, but I thought that it’s becuse I have handled her since she was just in the nest her mother made, my rabbit does have an additude due to the fact I adopted her from my school. My rabbit loves to chew on anything which is why we cannot leave her out by herself anymore. My rabbit also loves other animals especially cats, for what ever reason when ever ours is in the room my rabbit will fallow her while still in the cage trying to get to her.

    I rescued my rabbit he was being abused by my neighbours and I took him home with me and he wouldn't let anyone pick him up he would kick and bite but for some reason when I Len him loose or wonder around my bed room he cuddles with me and he let's me pick him up, also my rabbit is very cheap as we feed him pellets which for me is 30$ every 8 months for feed. We give him our left over veggies and fruits or fresh from the garden. He loves the green leaves from corn on the cob and for about every 3 months my litter cost 5$. And for the rabbit run it was free for me to build as I used trees and logs from the bush in my back yard so every year he cost about 85$ which is very cheap

    • @TotallyKayla
      @TotallyKayla 5 років тому +2

      You're not taking care of your rabbit right, at all. Hence the reason you think it's so cheap. I rescued 2 rabbits and I go through a 2 string bales of hay every 4 to 5 weeks and a pay 50$ for my bale (which is on the cheaper side) rabbits are supposed to have unlimited supplies of hay at ALL TIMES! Also they're supposed to have at least a half a cup of leafy greens everyday unless the poop gets mooshy then you'd slow down or feed them every other day instead of every day, then comes pellets, which should be Timothy hay based, not cheap. I pay 20$ a month on pellets, on top of chew toys because their teeth never stop growing, they need to be drinking out of dishes not bottles... As they drink as much as a 60 pound dog. Rabbits are very special animals, as are all animals but they're different, they require a lot more than 85$ a yeAr. I spend that and some a month on my rabbits. You should do some more research otherwise your rabbits are going to die.

For example, my first rabbit would tug on your clothes until you picked him up, as well as sit on any paperwork you were doing until you paid attention to him. However, my current rabbit is nowhere near as happy with being picked up, he just prefers to run around by himself and will throw a fit if held for very long.

      Try picking up my rabbit. Although I'd advice against it if you value your arms. I'd advise against trying to use a towel to do that if you value your life. She's perfectly fine otherwise, I've learned to cuddle her while she's on the ground. It makes her feel safe because she feels like she is hiding.

    Learned the hard way that wean down your pellets quick as possible. Once they get used to the OxBow pellets its hard to find a hay your bunndy will eat. Through trial and error though I finally found a meadow grass my bunny will eat. Had a hard time because fed her to many pellets as she was young. Now a year later finally got her diet on what is advised.

    My bunny Crunchie stopped eating his hay probably only yesterday so I put in a like a huge wall of hay in the corner of his bedroom. He is quite lazy so this means he doesn't need to go far when he wakes up to get to his hay. Also, I hide small carrot blocks and kale pieces inside his hay along with a couple pellets/nuggets. I found out the main reason he stopped eating his hay was just because he had too many pellets which stop him eating his hay. So that is why I put his nuggets in his hay wall so he is kinda being forced to forage for his pellets and also eat some hay as well. But you should seriouly see his breakfast xD I am so proud to be a bunny owner so I put a few pellets in the middle with kale round the edges and hay sticking out and a few carrot sticks too. It's called the Big Kings Brekkie cx

    I don’t think you should be giving advice when you’re making so many mistakes in this video.
    1. Bunnies don’t belong outdoors, they’re prey animals, outdoors leaves bunny’s so vulnerable and scared and isolated.
    2. That tiny hayrack you’re giving her hay is far too small, she won’t be able to graze and pick her hay out of those tiny holes.
    3. Rabbits don’t belong in cages 🥺

      It's rare that people in the uk have rabbits living indoors, I've been keeping rabbits since I was a child and I'm now 25 never had a single issue with them being outdoors.. if it snows we bring them inside, their hutches have a warm and waterproof cover. They get let out for play and exercise time and are safely tucked up in their hutches at night. If it's worked fine all these years and my rabbits are happy and healthy what's the problem? I also have an older rabbit that has free roam in the house as hes old and needs extra care.

    I keep trying to convince my parents to bring my bunny to the vet but they say things like "it's too expensive!" And "Outdoor rabbits don't need to go to the vet!" Which really infuriates me.

      Meme Salsa it’s honestly not super expensive for rabbits, I know it’s different everywhere but it’s only $40 to get male rabbits fixed and $65 for females, and that’s nothing compared to the hundreds of dollars that you need for dogs and cats, so keep on going and try to convince them, fixing rabbits prolongs their life span and if your rabbit is a female it will basically eliminates the risk of reproductive cancer

      Bodie Kolosque not all do I have 15 rabbits some do like to be picked up but don't like to be cuddled while others don't like being picked up but once there on your lap they love to be pet... so no not all rabbits like set interactions each rabbit is so different...

      In 5 years, our rabbit got used to our family and sometimes approaches to us expecting cuddles. But he hates to be picked up like a human child, despite my sister picking him up and hugging since he was a baby. Until now I can see him widening his eyes in fear. So I guess it isn't the same for all rabbits.

      Bodie Kolosque Well of course they love social interaction and attention, but I've had over ten rabbits and none have ever liked being picked up. They're not cats. They're fine sitting on you or being pet, but once the ground is out from under them without their consent, look out!

    My buns LOVE to be cuddled! They love being carried around like big ole babies. In fact if I’m ever not loving on them or cuddling them they get mad and pout haha

    I have 2 rabbits that I have had for about 7 years and I have had rabbits since I was 4 but we recently adopted another rabbit that had to be rehomed as she was fighting with the other rabbit (it got so bad she only has half an ear on one side) We adopted her and she's seems happy in herself she is eating well, is curious and comes up to greet us, plays, binkys etc, however we can not touch her and I don't know what to do, she has bit my husband a few times (he's braver than me and is more confident) but as soon as we tough her she gets so angry and will go for us, she's fine if I stroke her paws through the hutch/run but as soon as it involves more touching she goes crazy. I just don't know what to do as we can't check her or anything like that. I can't even clean the hutch out with her in there because she just attacks. We have to attach her hutch (an inside hutch) to the side door of the run outside as it's the only way to give her exercise, which isn't easy when your on your own! Does anyone have any tips on what we can do? P.S she had been spayed

    Some tips from someone who has a bun from a rescue: my buns name is cas, he was a rescue from a rabbit sanctuary. Please get good quality food, oxbow is the best, and any kind of hay except alfalfa is good for adults. Bowls of water are also good instead of those weird hanging drip water bottles

    I built a giant rabbit hutch for my two rabbits. I made a small tunnel going from that to a cage into the grass into another hutch. Think they love it XD

    When we first got my bunnies, they lived in a hutch for about a week. It was two floors, one for sleeping, and one for litter box, food, and water. We then spent an entire weekend building them a pen. They now get the run of the entire backyard xD My two bunnies are about three years old now. We only keep them in the hutch during the night, just to be sure, because lots of animals come into our yard at night (i.g. rats, raccoons, and coyotes come out into the streets) Other than that, they live outside alllll the time. :D
