I am learning to dodge and burn a lot more in my photos. However, I realized that I use it more with pics that have a bit more exposure or under exposed.
Figuring it out slowly but surely, unsure if I should be doing it in lightroom with exposure or in photoshop with painting in black/white in an overlay layer. which method is better?
Ah man thank you! I really appreciate that! So far Im feeling rated just where I should be haha. Excited to see where it all takes us though! Cheers Ethan! Hope you continue to enjoy the content. 👊🏼
Really helpful video to see what are all the places you would dodge and burn. Seeing you do it on the actual lines of the car definitely makes sense. I definitely dodge and burn. The type of photo changes how much I dodge and burn. If I'm doing a full on shoot then definitely dodge and burn all the details. Some quick shots usually wheels and maybe a windshield
Dude I been doing this for a couple of months and man does it work! I also like to highlight the whole street, sidewalk, or whatever ground the car is on and making it just a little darker. Makes the car pop just a little more.
now i know why my photos are flat.. I'm gonna give it a try of this technique.Thanksss Been watching your channel for a long time, keep doing it, especially the lightroom edition videos!
Love the tip on not overdoing the dodging! Pics don't need to have everything in focus, or exposed 100% perfectly. I'd love to see if you have any tips on playing with saturation/vibrance/colors to focus on the car without making it look like a b&w background
This ipad setup is so awesome dude! I don't dodge & burn much (I'll mostly just use the adjustment brush in Lightroom) but this is really useful information!
Another great video! I really appreciate all your help it’s really making me look at things in photography that I haven’t before lol When are you going to start videography? 😁🤘🏼🤘🏼
Always find my pictures look better in some spots when I turn up the contrast slider, but turning that slider up ruins other areas, regardless of how I set up the radial filter. Maybe this is what I needed!
So nice you did this! 😎👌🏼 Best automotive photographer on UA-cam, Instagram and everywhere. 💪🏼 If you don't follow this man on here and on Instagram, shame on you, click that buttons!
dodge and burn is brighten and darken. fancy words. Dodge & burn are layer modes ;) Double your car layer. 1 mask for dodge. second mask for burn. Adjust each layer (dodge or burn) by sliding opacity. Much easier ;)
Do you dodge and burn every photo? Why or why not? Thanks so much for watching!
yeah i do, contrasts getting so much better by doing so

Been way too lazy to do that until now lol

Not always, just because it’s my last and final step and I sometimes forget 😂
BY FAR the most underrated car photography channel out there right now, PLEASE keep making videos, they are next level.
Ah man thank you! I really appreciate that! So far Im feeling rated just where I should be haha. Excited to see where it all takes us though! Cheers Ethan! Hope you continue to enjoy the content. 👊🏼
Always over the top advice from this man, one of the most authentic car creatives in the game now. 😎
Ah man! Thanks so much brother! Means a lot. 🙏🏼🙏🏼
I’d like to see you edit some photos in snapseed! Would be interesting to see what you could do with a more basic and entry level software.
True! Would be a fun challenge! I remember using that app many many years ago now. Been a while. Does it have curves? Or selective adjustments?
@@TheCarCreative It has both!
@@TheCarCreative colour adjustments are not that good

Hey there great video 👌🏻Do you know if you can selectively apply filters with the brush tool with some sort of masking in LR mobile?
So helpful bro💞. Gives you an overall better idea of what and where to do
Glad you find it helpful! Thanks so much for watching and hanging out =D
Helpful video Alex! Just remembered the Dodge & Burn tutorial you did on the silver Mclaren
Now that’s a throw back! Haha. Not much different from the look and feel of this video but was a while ago now haha.
@@TheCarCreative Haha yeah true but it was just a nice reminder for the D&B areas on the car
This ipad setup is so awesome dude! I don't dodge & burn much (I'll mostly just use the adjustment brush in Lightroom) but this is really useful information!
You gotta start doing it bro. Takes the photos to that next level 👌🏼

You are amajjjjing :D
what about the curves adjustment?
Another great video! I really appreciate all your help it’s really making me look at things in photography that I haven’t before lol
When are you going to start videography? 😁🤘🏼🤘🏼
Thanks man! I’m glad to do it! That’s a good point, I should do more videography stuff also. I’ll keep this in mind!
Hey Alex, did you try to use it in PS? You should try to use colors on D&B. Like for taIl lights and stuff with the color.
Always find my pictures look better in some spots when I turn up the contrast slider, but turning that slider up ruins other areas, regardless of how I set up the radial filter. Maybe this is what I needed!

Aw man that means a lot thank you! I really appreciate the kind words. =)
@@TheCarCreative you deserve this and even more, you totally earned this by yourself by being a great teacher and such a humble and pleasant guy. 😊👍🏼
Thank you this this very informative tutorial! Was wondering what flow and feather levels you suggest for both dodge and burn?
Typically my feather is at 100 on LR mobile. If I’m in photoshop my flow is usually at 7-10% for dodging and like 2% for burning. 👊🏼👊🏼
@@TheCarCreative thank you! is that the same for lightroom desktop and for the flow?
wouldn't it be enough to just raise the lights and decrease shadow in the car?
I bought a preset but how do I use it? No link or anything that showed how to access it popped up
My question is when you get a shot of a white or black car how do you make same color stuff pop?
whats the intro song? :) awesome video btw!
yay awesome content!
Thanks so much man!
dodge and burn is brighten and darken. fancy words. Dodge & burn are layer modes ;)
Double your car layer.
1 mask for dodge.

Adjust each layer (dodge or burn) by sliding opacity. Much easier ;)
I will have to give this a go! Thanks for the tip!!
What do you mean aggressive?
I suppose I mean more like muscular, or showing off the design lines of the car.
I like it, is it just me or is it out of focus.
🧐 seemed sharp to me... 🤷🏻♂️
Thanks for watching eh! 😁
3 clownshoes downvoted due to dodge & burn being too complicated for their feeble minds.
Haha! All good! Can’t win’em all! But from what I hear, any click is a good click for the algorithm so I’ll take it haha. Cheers man!
