You could have a dance party while simultaneously making dessert. Just put the powder in the shaker cup, add milk, shake, and in minutes you would have a creamy treat in vanilla, chocolate or banana. Such was the beauty of Royal's Shake-a-Puddin', which also may bring to mind bubbly commercials of girls with flipped hair, miniskirts, and Go-Go boots shaking pudding to the tune of "Shake, Shake, Shake-a-Puddin'. Puddin-Puddin, Shake-a-Puddin' Mmmm- Mmmmm."

There was also a Fizzies wannabe called "King Stir" which was basically a swizzle stick with a glob of Fizzie-like material at the end. You stirred it into a glass of water.

RIGHT. Now I remember what a 'fizzie' was. Your description brought it back.

I remember making it with milk. Vanilla was my fave. I can still remember the taste and texture to this day. Thanks for posting this blast from the past advertisement.

I used to bring this to school when I was a kid. I wish they would bring it back. I think kids would love it.

I haven't seen these commercials since I was nine years old. My grandmother (got rest her soul) got this for me, but she made me share it with the rest of my brothers. There wasn't even enough to go around.

Powdered milk was included. Only add water--not milk. I remember making and eating this. It's just instant pudding with clever advertisements aimed at the kids.

My younger sister and all her friends had those Footsie things and played with them all the time. Quite the rage back in the very late 1960s and early 1970s, created by the Wham-O company. And if you could properly use your Footsie whilst using Wham-O's "Shoop Shoop" Hula Hoop, you absolutely ruled (my sister's friend Stephanie could).

We weren't allowed to bring this stuff to school as per administration's rule. We kids never knew what the big deal was about it. The school sold ice cream during lunch a la carte. Maybe they were afraid that it would detract from sales in the cafeteria.

Your comment was from a while ago, but I just had to let you know: they still make and sell the Milk Shake candy bar, as well as the Zero bar, which I believe was made by the same company (Hollywood). The Zero is very easy to find, but it may take a bit of effort to locate the Milk Shake.

Yup...........I'm a Shake-A-Puddn kid too! Loved that stuff...........but it was a treat once in awhile because we couldn't afford extravagant desserts like this!

I used to eat this stuff. I was a small kid but I'd climb my mom's kitchen counter and help myself when my mom wasn't looking.

Was thinking about this and wondered what I'd find. Don't remember the commercial, but do remember the product. I had a paper route around the time this came out so I could afford to buy it myself. I recall making one up every night, just before bed. Oh, the tooth decay! :)
Fizzies were a bit of a disappointment. I was expecting soda pop level carbonation which was not present at all. Getting cold enough water was another challenge for me as a youngster.

Ron Carlson, I remembered every word to the song...was cooking with my daughter, & just burst out singing it! Of course, then, I had to come on UA-cam to see if it was on here, & if I remembered correctly!😂 My fave was Butterscotch 😋 #SweetMemories

Not to be confused with the Great Shakes milk shakes that were out at the same time as this (Great Shakes shakes tasted terrible). Borden's milk shakes in a can were way better.

God! I remember eating these and that milk shakes too. The shakes were nasty, but I seemed to like this stuff. If you want a walk down memory lane, find a 2 cup container with a tight fitting lid, dump in a small package of Royal Instant pudding, any flavor, and add 2 cups of ice cold water, NOT MILK. Put the lid on and shake it baby! The pudding will be soft set, just like the shakin-puddins...and have the same blah taste. Anybody remember Funny Face drinks? I guess they were the competitions answer to Kool-aid?

I just relayed my account on FB (Mid-south Viet Nam re-enactors) about good ole "Shake-a-Pudding" in Viet Nam....It was a very big think there for us; our parents/wives would include the powder-mix envelopes in all packages sent to us!.......What happened to this stuff???

  • @thethrifthyprepper1716

There was another product, The Pudding Bear. You unscrewed his head, poured in the mix and cold water, and shook him up. I was 4 or 5 at the time and I thought that since you could add water to this mix and get pudding, you could add water to nestles quik and it would be good too. So disgusting I almost puked!

    • @bkynbiker
      @bkynbiker 5 років тому +1

HA! Don't know where I got the idea but one night I was determined to make Quik with water instead of milk. My parents told me, several times, it would be awful and I'd hate it , but I insisted and they allowed me to make on the condition that I drank. I made it, it was nasty, and I drank it. Or at least some of it. Can't honestly recall if I 'had' to drink the whole glass. Sometimes my parents were right ...
