There is a lot of hurt from both sides. On the adoptive parents side, I think they must feel unappreciated. This is their first living child, so parenting was very new to them. They parent Kaj Siab through their grief of their lost child, so mistakes are made, and the trauma of the losses is crippling to the bonding experience. (speaking from experience) As for Kaj Siab, she was adopted at 12. She could not possibly forget her birth family and had to continue to live grieving the loss of her birth mother and her entire family. She was confused because she felt discarded. So, connecting with her new family is full of guilt. Both have trauma. Some people are trauma-bonded. However, I feel that because Kaj Siab and Sheng were at a very critical phase in their lives, their trauma may have hindered the relationship.
