I hear ya on calving cows and feeding. Unfortunately in bush country up here, the bears would have a picnic on baby calves out on our pastures here. Plus calving doesn’t fit well with our rotational grazing. However, we do calve on sod fields here at home so they can spread out away from the herd as they calve. Gather them up two days later with a calf catcher on the quad, process, then momma follows to a new pasture with the friends she will spend the summer with. We run 3 different herds, so we can group them to age as they calve. Prevents a lot of scours and such.
I have to agree with your philosophy about letting the calves and cows “mother up” before tagging ears etc. I guess it depends on circumstances but your explanation makes a lot of sense to me.
I’m calving and feeding simultaneously now. And I agree when I come with the bale shredder, it’s just mass confusion and stress. Cows forget about their calves. Just a nightmare
You must between Britton and Sissiton East and West and south of Hwy 10 to Hwy 12. I used to live in Aberdeen now in Mn. Would travel that area quite often.
Do you have corrals set up for each group of cattle for calving in case of emergency . Asking for different ideas for May or June calving. Thanks Great video.
There’s a fine line between being ingenious and cheap.
Keep the great videos coming.
Jethro would approve of the tarp job.
I like your thinking on calving makes sense to me!
That’s the only way to calf!!! Great speech

6 miles west of Hillhead Sd
Where in Minnesota?
@@Ranchingsodak Where is Hillhead ?
@@Ranchingsodak Eagle Bend, which is 20ty miles south of Wadena on Hwy 71
Type hillhead into google maps
Take it off the old wagon frame . Sofetening or flattening the tires will just wreck them.
You gotta get a cheap man's grain trailer lol...in other words a dump trailer
