    This has to be the nicest layout - love your approach of laying it all out with the slots for the cable management and bus bars 👍

    I know this is an old video but I hope you see this question. I have a 3000w inverter and two large batteries. All came with the van and I have no idea what it means to have a 3000w inverter and these huge batteries?

      @@chartmann43 the wattage on an inverter is the maximum amount of power that inverter can handle at one time. All appliances that you plug in will use a certain amount of power, or watts. You can usually find this figure on the appliance itself 👍🏼

      @@allenmaner6616 hey bud, the cable is 16mm, there should be a link to the specific cable in the video description. As for the length of cable, that would vary on your van and how you’ve positions things. Cheers

    Love the Video! Very clean looking install. Did you convert the inverter neutral earth bonded from floating neutral?

    • @GreenHornCountryClub
      @GreenHornCountryClub  2 роки тому

      Thanks so much bud! Really appreciate the question too. Coincidentally, this is something I’ve been researching at the moment as I’m planning on installing a consumer unit and some plug sockets soon which I’ll do a separate video for.
      To answer your question, what I think I’m going to do is use a double pole RCBO in the consumer unit, then any fault that occurs should break both the live and neutral, so it won’t matter if I have a floating neutral or not 👍🏼

    Nice design! I recently bought the 12/500 Phoenix inverter, but I'm going to use it at my house as a backup power source for my electronics. Should I ground (grounding rod) the inverter?

    • @GreenHornCountryClub
      @GreenHornCountryClub  Рік тому +2

      Thanks dude! You should defo ground the inverter. I believe the inverter itself will have a ‘floating neutral’, so you may need to adapt this depending on what you’re wiring out of the end of the inverter. There should be a section in the Victron manual that explains it all.

  • @ayontubemitra

    Nice setup. Why did you put in a kill switch on the positive battery wire and not use the remote switch terminals to a panel switch? Did you find there were current draws even when the unit is turned off?

    • @GreenHornCountryClub
      @GreenHornCountryClub  Рік тому +2

      Thanks bud! At the time, I was thinking if I added a kill switch before the inverter it would mean if I want to upgrade the inverter later down the line, I could isolate that part of the circuit and disconnect it entirely.

    Is the ground cable necessary or can it work without?

    • @GreenHornCountryClub
      @GreenHornCountryClub  Рік тому +2

      Hey bud, thanks for the message. So as far as I understand it, the grounding point on the inverter is essentially 'floating neutral'. The inverter will work without grounding from this point but it's important to consider what you're wiring out the other end of the inverter.
      If you leave the inverter floating neutral and only use single-pole RCDs, in the instance that the fuse blows only the live wire is cut, the neutral wire will still be live which can be dangerous.
      If using single-pole RCDs, you'll need to bond the floating neutral. There's a section in Victron's inverter user manual which shows you how to do this.
      Alternatively, what I did was use a double-pole RCBO which will break both live and neutral in the event of a fault regardless of if you've got a floating or bonded neutral.
      I hope that makes some form of sense. I've found a forum post online that explains it far better than I probably just have 😅

      Well, I would love to get your thoughts on what to do when the green light is flashing and the Inverter doesn’t work. I wired my friends up and something not right (It’s a 1200w)
      I have the same but 500w and it’s wired in the same way and works fine (with no ground)
      I have the connections going to BuseBars. Is that what you mean by single poked rcd?

      @@thechrisgeisler sorry bud! I should have been clearer - on the back of the inverter you have the AC output socket. Are you plugging appliances directly into that and it’s not powering them?
      I was looking online and it seems that a flashing LED could possibly indicate some sort of calibration error. Victron has a Toolkit app that you can download and it should give you more information on the specific error.
