@@usamamushtaq5641 Indian here. Why my country chose to have a local payment processing platform is because we want to maintain sovereignity in financial transactions.
Recently , when Russia Ukraine war started america put sanctions on Russia constricting visa, MasterCard and swift from enabling domestic and international financial transactions in Russia, if Russia didnot have their own system they would not have been able to sustain their own economy.
But I guess your pessimist is warranted this is pakistan, the digital infra is from the early 2000's , the compliance director keeps talking about 'allah ka karam' when asked about security. I wouldn't trust my money with them better to use visa or MasterCard

Immense gains to be had by digitization of payments. Not only the formalisation of txns and by extension a good chunk of the economy, but ease for masses for day to day activities, even if one ignores second order effect on hoarding cash to evade taxes. From what I know of Pakistan, the primary focus should be to aggressively increase access to conventional banking, especially for people in lower income bracket.
(I last used an ATM for cash 2-3 years ago)

Pakistan is slowly moving towards digital payments as well! About 1/3rd network providers have digital wallets( Jazzcash, Easypaisa etc) and are very convenient to use and setup just share your id card and a selfie and that too at tge ease of being at your home.
Moreover with the introduction of Sadapay (Now bought by a Turkish unicorn- I believe), Nayapay, Zindagi etc have impressed youth.
We are far behind in tech if compared to India but we're hopeful for better future.
