    Camon man, I've kept mine which is 4 and half inches with a 3 inch pearl gourami danios, corys, glowlights, a single molly, lots of platys and alot of rcs and a single dwarf mexican crayfish and she doesn't mind them. She eats with them, chases the schooling ones from time to time, but she doesn't harm them.

    Tried to keep a black rainbow shark in my community with giant danios, dwarf gouramis and a half banded spiny eel. He terrorized everything that got near the drift wood. Definitely needs a nice big cave or densely planted if you have similar sized/smaller tank mates. Would mainly recommend bigger tank mates tbh.

      I wonder if thats why the reports of aggression are all over the place.Some people may be keeping them in too small a tank or with too little cover and features for the rainbow to claim

    I got mine April of last year, he's had different tankmates since then from barbs, tetras, Swordtails, angelfish, bettas, guppies and pearl gouramis. The only fish he really didn't work with was the barbs, tetras and the Swordtails, everything else worked, I even have shrimp in the tank right now and he doesn't bother anything. I feel like everyone has a completely different experience and that when it come to them we should expect the unexpected because I find him to have a tantrum or act sad if he is hungry are if I change something in the tank lol. I really love his personality and think its an amazing fish to have

    I got two Rainbow sharks on my community tank (75 gallon) and so far about 8 months everything working out! And the majority of fish on the tank are neon tetras and cherry barbs, cory doras, panda garras and 1 bristle nose pleco.
    The bigger rainbow chase the smaller sometimes when he invades his space, but overall they don’t mess with each other

    Great vid.video.. been a Amateur fish keeper/ lover my whole life ❤️. I've pretty much stayed with tetra tanks the most, have had other types of themes. But I like the colors and masses of fish with the smaller choices. When these glo fish started becoming more available, I started exploring/ experimenting. About 2 months ago maybe 3 I got 2 "sharks" yellow and a pink..my tank has an abundance of cover,etc...they both act very Differently. The pink Dussel minds it's business very passive. The yellow basically has a pattern it swims visiting the different hiding spots. If it passive paths with pink he / they will do a "flexing" dance.and will move on.( I have filmed it would be happy to share). As far as aggression goes just that.....I did have an African dwarf frog That perished...... With the food competition I was not too surprised:
    :( .I know they are approaching adulthood. Solid 4". And hoping 4 the best. Been watching lately and found them working together, going down the same paths, with 2 interest points ( small cave like spots) ware they fan water over hard 2 see Exactly, but apparently maybe fanning on,,,,eggs or something (may just trash gathered there)
    I have read etc. Hard to mate..etc...looking for more info on mating practices...tytyvm. be happy to send any video or pics. Tyty

      Thanks for checking out the video and it's cool to hear about your tank. I know sharks tend to not get along so I'm glad that you have ones that are not causing problems. Since they have their own areas of the tank it sounds like it'll work out. I'd be happy to check out your tank if you want to post a quick video on here.

    Have an 8/9 year old rainbow shark (couple of Old vids on YT should make more) still going very strong Tank planted. The aggression did amp up as he got older. To limit aggression I'd recommend feeding at night (close to lights going off) and do Not leave uneaten food in the tank they will smell it and stay aggressive in my experience. Def tank boss did well with corries, and small tetras (has out lived them all). Like the in the video did not get laong well with mollies but if you control the feeding it will go much better, algae wafers or sinking food at night with lights off. Your albino looks good keep it going and he'll be around for a long time.

    From my experience they tend to have two levels of aggressiveness and it just depends on who they are with. Some types of fish they will be playfully aggressive with, almost like they enjoy seeing them move. Some types of fish they will endlessly chase. They won't put up with any other aggressive fish or nippers.

    • @TheAquaticCoder
      @TheAquaticCoder  Рік тому +1

      Mine was mostly the first time of play aggressive. He did chase mollies a lot but as soon as they swam away he would go back in the other direction.

    Thank you for sharing your experience. I bought a glo orange rainbow shark bc it looked cool. Shark has reached about 4.5 inches and is not loving my school of glo tetras. Thinking of rejoining the tetras and finding some larger for him to hang with. I feed about the same as you just different brands. He’s been into blood worms. Just eats and eats and eats. Also my shark has taken over a quarter of the tank and won’t let anyone near. I’m going to upgrade to a 65 and copy your island cave style so maybe he won’t be so territorial. I’ve had him for almost a year. Would I get one again? Maybe he swims in my hands when I clean so he’s great comedy. Who knows maybe if I change the stock I’ll enjoy him more. He’s a monster I really didn’t expect it his big he was an inch when I brought him home. Now I’m going to check out your other vids. Have a great night

    A friend of mine had his tank leak so he had to rehome a few fish . I took the 3 of his rainbow sharks put them in my 30 gallon one of them died . Then one would be more dominant and wouldn't let the other one eat . So my only option was to set them in separate 20 gallon tanks . Since then the smaller one gotten bigger than the larger one . I tried to rehome them but couldn't get anyone to take them . The 20 gallon tanks are tall and so far the parameters are just about spot on . Both tanks are heavily planted . Both fish are in tanks by them selves . Funny thing is that they interact with each other alot . One of them is 6 inches and the other is around 5 3/4 . Had them both for over a year now . Figure I will just keep them as they are . Named them Burt & Ernie .

    i just got a rescued adult rainbow. he was chill in the store, i got him home to a 55 and made a cool spot for him, and he desided the tank was his. he got all pumped up, and started acting all bossy. he's awesome. there is only 2 eels and a baby clown loach and he doesnt want them in there, so the tank is his, ill put others in another tank. he turned into a different fish when i got him home it was hilarious. he is very dark now, and red fins are almost purple. he acts like a pit bull.
    i kept making more hiding paces for eel and he just kept taking the places over. this peacock eel isnt the sharpest tack in the box either. in the dark they are ok but when light comes on shark bullies. i call him Moby.

    So my question is I currently have an upside down catfish (4 inches) with a singular common goldfish (2.5 inches) I want to add the shark (about 3inches) to my tank (36 gal) , but I’m not sure how itll work out. The shark is currently in a 3 gallon, which is awful for the fish. So part of me wants to get the fish out of there. But I’m not sure if it’ll do good with the other fish. Or with my upside down catfish will put each other in their place. What would you recommend? Also with their temperature ranges I evened it out for both of them at 75°. They seem to be doing fine with that.

    I had cicklids for years. The Malibu type and got tired of the lone wolf scenario. There many nice looking fish but It would always come down to the baddest fish in tank eating the others and living alone until he died.. I give up on those. I have rainbow shark and he is to timid to come to and eat so your feeding advice is much needed,. He/she disappears and i have no idea if he gets any sinkers. I watched it it appears he never eats.. I have a loach and he will get all the sinkers. The shark
    isn't growing.

    • @TheAquaticCoder
      @TheAquaticCoder  2 роки тому +1

      That's a tough one because loaches will just eat and eat from my experience. I've dealt with Clown Loaches and Yoyo Loaches eating until their stomachs a noticeably large. What I would try is:
      1. If you Shark hides in one area feed the loaches away from him and try to drop a few pellets near him after the loaches are busy.
      2. Try Frozen Brine Shrimp. As it melts in the water you get a lot of little pieces floating through the water. Hopefully your shark will grab a few. They sell these in a fridge near the fish section at Petsmart/Petco and most local fish stores.

    I wish the aquatic store i went to buy my white morph rainbow shark (black with white fins) told me how big they get before I put him in my 10 gallon. Im hoping to upgrade to a bigger tank soon but for now I have alot of coverage for him and my 3 black skirt tetras and luckily the aggression isn't too bad he just chases them when they get too close to his cave.

      That's a shame that they didn't tell you. I tend to see it be 50/50 whether they ask about your tank size and such. I have never seen a rainbow shark with those colors so I hope you are able to keep them long term.

      I made it by stacking Seiryu Stones. You can get them at many fish stores or aquascaping stores online. I just played around with arranging them until it looked like a cave I was happy with.

      A rainbow shark and goldfish are two species I would not recommend keeping together. If you can keep multiple aquariums I'd suggest that. If not then likely having to rehome one of the two species.

    Can i mix them with my 2 goldfish in 36 gallon tank??

    • @TheAquaticCoder
      @TheAquaticCoder  2 роки тому +2

      I would not recommend that. Goldfish tend to be pretty slow moving and the Rainbow Shark is likely to pick on them. Also I'd highly recommend a 55g for the rainbow shark once they are an adult.

      @TheAquaticCoder  3 роки тому

      He might chase them a bit but they are fast so I don't see a rainbow shark ever injuring them. I'd say if you have a 55g or larger tank it should be a fine combination. If you have a 29g then it's a maybe.

    Hey Connor I'm in a rush and my tank EXPLODED last night fried my filters and bubblers do they need oxygen my are my sharks going to die in my snail tank 😭😭😭😭 I do not have a way to get to a pet store until 7 pm tonight

    • @TheAquaticCoder
      @TheAquaticCoder  2 роки тому +1

      That's awful to hear! They need some oxygen but for a day they should be fine. It really depends how large the snail tank is although small I'm guessing. If you have any buckets larger than the aquarium that could be an option to keep them in for the time being. But hopefully you can get to the pet store tonight and try to get a cheap set up that is large enough for them.

      @@TheAquaticCoder thank you i have 2 more 55 gallon tanks but no water or electricity I have no clue how this happened total shock but without electricity I don't have a system to keep oxygen in the tank do they go to the top at all to gather air? Like my koi do ?

    • @TheAquaticCoder
      @TheAquaticCoder  2 роки тому

      @@jessajane4656 I have not seen them do that often in my experience although they do need some oxygen. As long as there is a gap between to lid of the tank and the water so some oxygen is there I would not worry about that. Hopefully you can get electricity again because I'd be worried most about having filtration if they are in such a small tank.

    I got a rainbow shark for my 10 gallon because the store said I could, im starting to think that was a mistake because its been terrorising all my other fish the whole time

    • @TheAquaticCoder
      @TheAquaticCoder  3 роки тому

      Ah that's unfortunate that they told you that. It'll probably just get worse as they keep growing. I'd see if the store can take them back if you don't have any other tanks you can move them to.

    • @yadiellatinopropmaker5289

      This is due ti the size. They need 29 gallons at the least to be comfortable with other fish, they can grow 6 inch. Mine has gone from 2.5 to 3 in 1 month.
      I have 3 in my 29 gallon and theres always a bit of territorial display but not terrorizing level,its their nature, they need space so agression can dissipate.

    they need oxygen or not

    • @TheAquaticCoder
      @TheAquaticCoder  2 роки тому

      I don't think they need any extra oxygen than normal. I like to always keep at least one airstone per aquarium but I don't think they have any special requirement for it.

    Can u have 2 rainbow sharks together?

    • @TheAquaticCoder
      @TheAquaticCoder  3 роки тому

      No that is not recommended. If you have a very large tank (125g or even larger). Then people have had success keeping 5+ since the aggression will be spread out.
