I know that you're sponsored by 13, but I'm not so I'll drop the ALX ZOLO Toadface and Skipper into the conversation. Both are a MH+ power rod which is the tip of a MH rod making it easier to cast and cast accurately with a heavy backbone to get them out of the junk. The Toadface is a 7'2" and the Skipper is a 6'9". The blanks are made in the US and the rods are assembled in South Carolina. You can get the Toadface from Tackle Warehouse, but you'll have to go to American Legacy Fishing or direct to ALX for the Skipper.
Hey used a Frog. No action, went to a weightless wacky with a Tailed worm and kept a Yellow shad at the top of the hook and Bagged my FIRST BASS THIS YEAR!! I HAVE caught 1 large Pike and about 5 bluegill... Wanted to say Thanks for your videos as I watch them everyday... Great help n knowledge.
Love it.... Straight forward simple to understand advice. Gear examples are AFFORDABLE and prove you don't need to spend a ton of money to have fun and catch fish. Many UA-camrs forget that.
Thanks for all you do for us dude, I started fishing again last month after years but wasn't catching shih for the first couple weeks of trying BUT I watched one of your videos and that morning at the same spot I caught two bass, a crappie, and one yellow perch in about an hour and now I'm HOOKED! It just got cold here though so the bites slowed and I'm so glad you uploaded this!!! Thank you
I just recently got walking down. The spook jr is a easy bait to help figure it out. The slack line laying in the water with light twitches makes it move side to side easily. Thank you brother for the knowledge
Throwin" a frog is my absolute favorite technique, the hit they get is amazing. I use a booyah pad crasher, I've used the same frog for nearly 3 months, I'm in S. FL so we got snakeheads here which destroy baits. I drop 2 BB's in the body and wrap the hooks together inside the body to give the more strength
im mad you came to guntersville and didnt tell me. i'm just north of Birmingham and know all about guntersville and their bridges. love this video on frogs. in north alabama, as you know, it's nothing but grassy ponds and lakes, so frogs are king. but i've never had the massive blowups like i see in videos. i cant wait to put these tips into practice!
Topwater frog action in the summer has always been a yearly tradition for my dad and I. Get into the lily pad beds, and simply twitch weedless frogs through the pads and it's not uncommon to catch over a dozen bass in the space of a couple hours.
I watch this video a week ago when it came out I had a broken medium heavy rod that I now made six and a half foot and is more like a heavy action rod this is definitely the way to go to walk a frog
The pad crasher is my all time favorite. Haven’t fished anything else in like a month and haven’t changed my frog either. Probably caught over 70 fish on mine so far and still going strong. Been catching at least 13 a day on it!
I have a pond I fish and there’s a thick cover that shifts day to day of green algae-sludge. Can I use this technique and setup for that or is it pointless to try to fish under the thick green sludgy top water?
You can use a Frog in that slop. The issue is where in the sludge you need to throw. If you can fish the edge of the algae you may have better luck. You might want add weight per Gene
Would a med/heavy rod work? As a bank fisher I can’t carry a lot of rods with me, but I’d love to try frog fishing cause they (frogs) are all over my local pond and I know the bass have to be eating them. But I’d like to be able to use my poles for other baits. Can’t carry everything lol
A bait I've had great success on, is the lunkerhunt spider....there are days, when they just won't eat a frog for whatever reason...that spider though, they were crushing it! Makes u wonder what's going on in their heads & what consequently makes them decide to take a bite...another bait, the Flippin The Bird hollow body....probably 1 of the most vicious strikes I've had on a hollow body...3 lb'er....not much better, than throwing hollow body baits
How do you work with pads that are raised or mixed with raised and ones on top of the water. Do you still throw a frog or can you throw a jig in the pads?
Never forget about the time a bullfrog went by me near the shore line a bass that I could say was 7 to 8 lbs was hot on his trail he was a big frog so don't think that bass wouldn't hit a big plastic frog !
@ Flukemaster I'm curious and need some info/advice. Have a MH/ fast rod that unfortunately I broke on a hook set. Rares back set the hook and snap... Hit a freaking tree limb. So now that rod ( which was replaced for free by the manufacturer) but they didn't want the broken rod. So..I'm thinking , I need to cut it down anyway. Loosing @ 3-4 inches, will that change the rod to more of a Heavy rod?It would them be a 6/6 or 6/7 rod, and I've heard if yoy have to cut down a rod usually it changes the power a bit. Just wondering if that rod would now work as a frog rod or not?
It will completely change the rod. It will be a heavy but have very little flex in the tip. You might like it so it's worth a try but be willing to toss the thing in the trash if you don't.
I have a medium 7ft heavy action rod anyways! I got a 12lb test line! I throw the frog and there's slick in my line rather i reel in or let it set for a second yhe line just seta on the wayer lose if this makes sense! I seen people where there fishi g a frog and no slack help help! Lol
Great video love fishing the front . That being said I've been struggling the last couple of weeks maybe one fish a day. I think it's just locating them but it's been tough for me
Been away from the channel for a while, glad to see you’re still grinding gene! Also you got something nasty on that hat…. Need to get an orange one for you, also that’s a poppin perch from strike king
@@Flukemaster I know I know 🤦♂️ y’all will still trounce my vols and y’all look pretty unbeatable yet again, bama didn’t look so hot over weekend but Im sure they will improve, y’all will probably cruise in East
I used this technique couple years ago back in Kansas on a small pond full of lily pads when a real bullfrog saw the intruder he attacked, hook line and sinker
Pretty much. Alumacraft made some choices during covid and one of them forced them to stop making all welded boats. I still have my big boat but I don't want to put too many hours on the motor.
Hey Gene, I wanted to inquire about your Friday Night Live series. Is it still going on? Did you change the branding? Thanks! - Signed a fan who needs more fishing content and less Dallas Cowboys content ha
I stopped doing them for a while. The way UA-cam classified them after they were filmed really put a hurting on my video retention. It's difficult to explain but I hope to be able to start them back real soon.

Had my first frog blowups on my last camping trip. I had 0 confidence in the frog before now, but I think it’s about to be one of my favorite baits.
I just recently got walking down. The spook jr is a easy bait to help figure it out. The slack line laying in the water with light twitches makes it move side to side easily. Thank you brother for the knowledge

Hey😅. Do you put any action in the frog?
I’m going to use a frog on my new rod and reel when I get home this weekend
Awesome videos.ive had a little trouble with hooking them on a frog.thank you for your knowledge. Keep them videos coming.

I've had all the right equipment, just not the "know how" but thanks again for a great video. Can't wait to try it out on the water!
Give us a breakdown Gene,, there's so many categories of frogs out there now compared to when we started frog fishing iñ the 80s...

How do you keep the grass and weeds off your trolling motor blade?
Thanks for the great videos. Love seeing the SZ reel. Still one of my most used reels.

Love the videos. I should comment more!! Always learning from you appreciate your time.
Awesome! Thank you!
Great video Gene. Frog time!! Love it! 👍 👊
do you think a revo x by abu garcia a good frog reel?
I like those white sproe frogs too, but it seems like whatever frogs I use they start taking on water and sinking. what can I do to prevent that?
Can u make a tutorial on how u wrapped the braid around the hook I’m not quite understanding
Scum frogs are my favorite 🐟🎣
Same here.
I'm a big fan of those too, both the regular and the paddletail "bigfoot" versions.

I’ve always wanted to see a short heavy rod. Just can’t find one.
You think the 6 foot 7 inch omen black 3 (medium heavy/extra fast) would make a good frog rod?
How do you work with pads that are raised or mixed with raised and ones on top of the water. Do you still throw a frog or can you throw a jig in the pads?
Hey Gene when you do add rattles to a frog how many do you personally add?
Good stuff, Fluke. Thanks for sharing.

INTERESTING ( NEVER fish that type , all the time with loads of bait ) Do you need a sinker for those kind of fishing ?
Nope. They don’t need sinkers.
The River2Sea Frogs will out catch every frog on the market
I couldn't get an argument 😂
I was told to use a double parlomor knot on braid

I’ve had good luck with a Bitsy jig. Natural with green pumpkin trailer. Hope this helps
Can I use the same setup with a spinning reel?
Gene. How does the Origin series reels compare to the Concepts with the drag? Would you still use a reel like the Origin TX for frogging?
Yes I would. It's got plenty of drag. The new Origins are probably the best reel you can find at that price.
From the faded PFD I can tell this man spent a lot of time on water
Thank you sir. I do spend a lot of time in my kayak. Over 200 days this past year.

If you haven’t noticed, that nasty thing is at the top of the AP Rankings at the moment and holding last year’s National Championship. Lol.

When do u use a popping frog
I feel like I'm a Bassmaster Elite series pro at walking a spook and a 4 year old using a Disney princess rod and reel walking a frog. So frustrating.
I use a dab of superglue for the hole for some topwaters.

Im up north and caught 6'er.. 😁
