The way Australia treated its citizens during covid should walk away.
Full boot camp of Darwin 😢

I was thinking why would anyone want live anywhere that there is no active inforced protection of personal rights?
Why? it was great. In my state we had literally the least death rate in the world - better than New Zealand's. Your problem is you dont live here and you are stupid and clueless. YOu think what 1% of the people here were saying is how the other 99% think. We didnt. The only state government that didnt get a bigger election win after covid was the one that put in the least measure. That right wing government got wiped.
Stay away from here. We dont need morons like you.

As an Irish citizen, we are not taxed, if living abroad. But if the Irish Department of Revenue tried to tax me, I would never pay. It is ridiculous to expect someone to pay tax if they don't reside in the said jurisdiction. You pay tax for essential services, if you don't live in a said jurisdiction, how the hell can you benefit? So why the hell should you pay tax?
Very good point, try telling that to the ATO. They will give you more jail time for tax evation than for murder LOL
Good point America should be learning from Ireland...

Because it means the country owns you
The dreamy perception foreigners have of Australia as this beautiful, perfect, peaceful nation died decades ago. The COVID lockdowns sealed the deal, when citizens were not allowed to leave the country to visit dying relatives. And now this. If you value your freedom, run away from Australia. You've been warned. It's not the paradise it used to be.
You're wrong. People overseas still believe that Australia is something like America in the 1950s. This belief is particularly strong in parts of the EU. When I told people about what happened during COVID they told me that it was fake news and I had to show them news articles and videos before they believed it.
The grass always looks greener from the otherside.
@@spankythemonkey9828 That's true. No country is perfect, but you need to pick your poison. I like my freedom, so I left.

Hey mate, I'm an Aussie about to relocate to Middle east for work. Can you advise me if TR2023/1 regulation affected you?
@@Dave-jh1zn It affected me in the sense of needing to prepare and justify how I no longer had any ties back on a several page document.
But I took things very emotionally and virtually sold, canceled everything except my Australian passport. All money and wealth is out of Aus.
Now travelling on my non Australian passport and couldn’t be happier living abroad so far. Night and day difference with my mental health improving significantly.
Real test will be next years tax return, especially if they add any new rules. My income is foreign based so it will be interesting. Went through a immigration/ emigration specialist which was well worth the expense who stated it’s more just a avenue to target high net worth individuals in particular.
If anyone is on the fence leaving do consider it or atleast go on a month long holiday checking out a few places.
As much as it pains me to say this as I love Australia as a country so much, if the current regime plays games with tax I simply won’t return.
I am an Australian. I am 67 years old. My ancestry in Australia goes back to 1870. I have been married to an ethically Chinese woman for 45 years. The Australian government took away our guns, even though the founders of our nation wanted us to be a gun owning nation to protect us from oppressive governments. The event that justified the government taking away our guns is suspicious. Then the Australian government later took away all of our rights, including those guaranteed in our constitution and done so with the support of the High Court. We have judicial censorship, government censorship and acquiescent censorship by the private media to retain their government licenses. The Bureaucracy is growing without limit. The Bureaucracy make rules that are treated as law. The Bureaucracy even brags about their eagerness to abuse their power to achieve their political, bureaucratic and individual objectives. The Bureaucracy is committed to socialism and is regulating small business out of business and letting contracts with big business that place government clerks in controlling positions for safety reasons. The government (i.e. the politicians and the Bureaucracy) do what they want, irrespective of the law. That is rule by government. If you upset the police then your car registration is recorded as needing special attention. That means that the police will stop you for special attention whenever they notice your car on the road. The government is now printing money and so steeling value from the people. The demand for taxation by the government increases incessantly. The government is now taxing our superannuation at a larger rate. My wife and I are selling our properties as time permits to place our savings in shares, likely not in Australia. I would not recommend people to invest in Australia. Australia is going the way of Brazil in that the Bureaucracy is taking socialist control of the economy. Australia is also going the way of South Africa in that the government is now introducing race based privilege to people and imposing race based speech in our work places. Both of our major political parties are competing for compliance with the socialist agenda. Our minor political parties suffer dirty tricks at elections. Our mail-in votes and our pre-pole votes are held by the Bureaucracy; the people who brag about their eagerness to abuse their power to achieve their political objectives. Our Bureaucracy typically take 8 days to count those votes, while the other votes are counted in 1 day. Suspicious. Our education is principally by the government. The private education must comply with the government syllabus. I have taught building part time at a technical college for 3 years. The Training and Assessment Act authorizes the Bureaucracy decide who may teach and what may be taught. Like all socialist governments, what is taught is dumbing down over time. The skills of recent graduates is increasingly less than that of earlier graduates.
Regards,
Geoff. Reeks
On the list of countries fast-tracking their way to oppressive communism/socialism, Australia is far and away in first place. Canada only dreams of what Australia is able to do. But hey, I guess as long as young people are able to go to the beach and see music concerts, then everything is great. Good times create weak people. Weak people create hard times. Hard times are coming.
In fairness, the United States isn’t much better.
I am a socialist. You need to go back to school read Marx to learn what socialism is.
You don't know what the heck you are talking about.
Australia ain't no socialist country.
In a socialist country the workers get to own the means of production and run their own workplaces through democratic means and the ballot box. The workers become the owners of their own companies or the shareholders of their own companies.
They run their own workplaces. Then they make management decision by democratic vote where one person gets one vote.
Australia ain't no socialist country.
Australia is full fledged free market pro capitalist country with a hereditary, unelected monarch as it's head of state.
You don't have to be worried about socialism in Australia.
I guarantee you.
You can sleep without any worries.
No socialism is coming to Australia.

I'm a born and raised Australian citizen who has been living overseas for the past five years. I was disgusted by how we foreign-based Australians were treated by the Australian Government during the pandemic period. I don't trust the Australian Government and I fear the government is going to seize our superannuation and give it away to unproductive people.
Good call. I cashed out all but super and left but didn't think they could go after that too. At 55 yo now I probably won't be able to get it until I'm 75 and half dead anyway so I made my own luck by investing overseas. Took a lot of energy and stress but totally worth it now.
They just brought in a tax on superannuation amounts over $3 million where the tax is on UNREALISED capital gains after saying they would never touch superannuation ! That's right, they will tax you on the notional/paper increase, not when you actually sell the asset !!! Filthy Labor government. Australia: Where too much tax is never enough.
When you say unproductive, do you mean like politicians who salt away their ill gotten gains, do mean the Big Corporations that pay little or no tax by using Tax havens. So the corrupt politicians then tax the working people to make up the shortfall for providing services? Those sort of people?
As an Australian I can honestly say the country and especially Victoria has turned into a money pinching crap hole and the quality of the country is rapidly declining. Very poor medical system compared to what it was, cost of living is ridiculous and crime is really getting out of control.
Home invasions are almost daily, stabbings, shootings, it’s no longer the safe beautiful place it was which is Heartbreaking and we have come to the realisation that to live a life of freedom that is affordable and safe is no longer an option here.

TroofNews, is there a way to stop this?
@@easterncoastacd1883 No, what he's talking about are the new tax residency rules that are coming in 1 July 2023 (the start of the new tax year). What you're talking about has been law since 2020 (global minimum for all companies - not just corporations). The new rules are a citizenship based tax in all but name as what Australia considers to be "residing in your country of tax residency for a significant enough part of the year each year" can change whenever the wind changes direction, its arbitrary and targets Australian citizens who live abroad permanently. I'm curious to hear how many years they'll actually monitor you for about this but until they announce a time limit then we must assume this is permanent so gone are long holidays, flag theory / trifecta model, gone is all but the most essential business travel, unless you want to pay the ATO simply for being an Australian citizen.

Take a look at how Australia reacted during covid and how the people did nothing and let it happen are we really surprised?
"Did nothing" is not a true picture. We protested in the tens of thousands - regularly. We wrote. We called. We rallied. We called on the Governor General, who has the authority to intercede. We lodged court cases. We built community groups. We found alternative jobs for people who were fired because they didn't get the 'shot'. We were fired on with rubber bullets by the police. We were rayed with radar weapons, causing illness and skin reactions and burns for weeks afterwards. We were fined. We were arrested. We were banned from entering places. All because we were saying 'no' or asking reasonable questions. Perhaps our actions weren't reported in media you had access to. But - we most certainly did more than 'nothing'.

So many Australians are now homeless and treated terribly in their own country. High taxes, bad services and corruption everywhere. Australia is horrific for the productive working class.
I know, I live here.
Any wages you earn, get taxed the other way also: super high house prices, to absorb any remaining wages.
The totalitarian police state formerly known as Australia.

Taxes are most important in countries that waste their resources. Developing complex rules on taxation usually exempt the special classes of people that have the most money in those systems. Nomad has a valid point of existence. It is the taxman that can kill off anyone who is not very well informed. Most of us who are individuals cannot stand up to the force those authorities are given even in the face of the most arbitrary enforcement and injustice. Best to pay the experts to stay informed to defend yourself ahead of the tsunami.
How to convince a citizen to renounce their citizenship - tax them worldwide whilst abusing the tax money received 😂
Yet huge overseas corporations make untold billions in Australia and pay no tax.The little guy makes a few dollars and the Government is like '' give me half ''.

The ironic thing is they want to eliminate borders for nations, but they want to create borders for the individual.
Take it from a Australian, we are now a socialist country. Hard workers and investors are so heavily taxed now, it is not worth working or investing anymore. Seriously!
You’re just a loser. Take it from another Australian.
Agreed. The Australian system is setup to benefit politicians and well connected tradies while the gov roleplays as dad trying to force everyone around
Very soon Australians will be all "equals" (except the dictator who is more equal than others), and all will be forced to work for the "greater good" with hard labor. Anyone who doesn't agree will be "euthanized". Remember, you will own nothing and be happy. Happiness is mandatory.
Yes, Australia is also a one party state. The so-called Coalition just rolled over and died, leaving hard Left politicians in charge of all the States and Federal government.

One factor is many citizens who have dual citizenship work or retire overseas and come back to Australia if they become ill and will need hospitalisation. Many live where health insurance is prohibitive or medical services are bad. I have a number of friends who do this regularly. They intend to live overseas until they need care. Not sure that's a good idea as aged care in Australia is a highly expensive money-making grifters mill.
Obviously these people retire in the wrong country ... 🙄💨

It always works in their favor when it comes to money. Ask the IRS
They aren't becuase the long game is wealth confiscation and redistribution. Abolition of private property. Having more voters for their party is merely a means to that end. But they aren't going to support lower taxes. Only more. Ever more.

From Australia. Australian citizens are taxed on world income and has been the case for contractors such as myself who have worked globally and has been the case since the 1980's under Australian Treasurer Paul Keating at the time, as I recall.. The rules have been tightened towards exemptions paying Australian tax ever since. The latest rumors are that people with dual citizenship with Australia, living for extended periods overseas and not returning to Australia periodically, may lose their Australian citizenship. I suspect that this is a tightening of tax laws as a consequence of multinational companies moving money around globally to avoid paying tax. One of my clients working on an Australian resources project in Australia was paid through a Romanian bank. Unfortunately where people try to evade tax, not minimise tax, condemns all of us to higher taxation and limiting of personal freedoms. Ex Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnball declared assets in Cayman Island banks when he was still in politics. Sometimes the risk of being too clever is not worth the risk.

I think a bigger issue is around the corner, in that i can see a future whereby CBDC's are linked to rax status. If the purpose of the CBDC is ensure compliant citizens, is your government (through your bank or credit card) really going to allow you spend your money freely in another country? Unless CBDC's become multinational (which they might do, in a few cases, such as berween EU counties), i can see foreign travel (let alone, living overseas) a thing of the past.

Whilst I can easily believe this change by the left government we have now, but this is basically the same as I faced in the 1980's. I moved to Switzerland with my Swiss spouse. I paid for legal opinion on my taxes, as I was working in Switzerland (a Zurich banker of course) and had income in Australia from rental incomes. I was a "resident " of Australia, but non resident for tax purposes because I had a "permeant place of abode" overseas, with not end date with my residency or employment. Had to pay the non resident rate on Australian income, (bought another property, negatively geared at 18.25% interest so made very little in Australia) but didn't pay Australian tax on Swiss earnings. So too bad if you want to nomad in a van, and earn money online. Not so bad if you don't earn much . Next they will want to claim you have left so as to charge you non resident rates in Australia. But that would be having it both ways I hear you say. Oh year the tax man wouldn't do that! sic.
I live in Australia! If it was not for my wife's long drawn out immigration process here, i would move somewhere and renounce. Perhaps can still move to a country that does not allow dual citizenship and unofficially renounce!

@@zoltrix7779 It's too high for me and there's 200 other countries out there. Also done with the "western" countries like 3 years ago.
The way I understand it there are many countries that wanted to do the same (Russia for example, years ago). But the problem is that they don't control the main reserve currency. Australia will not be able to enforce this, especially in countries that are not friendly with Australia. Because countries (and banks in those countries) will simply be able to claim privacy policy. The only exception will be if Australia signs a deal with them, but that's not realistic, since other countries don't have such plans.

Hey Andrew. I've been watching that unfold over the last couple of years. If it's what I'm thinking it was introduced by the previous Government in 2021 and still yet to go through into law. But yes; it's a mega backward step and has seemingly four tests. if it goes through it, from what I infer, makes ex pats taxable as a resident for 2 or 3 years after leaving and only allows a 45 day visit each year thereafter.
