The French Open Tennis tournament took place from May 22 2023 to Jun 11 2023. During the Double Team match on June 4th the Japanese player Miyu Kato accidentally hit a ball girl in the neck with a ball after a point.
Immediately both the opponents Marie Bouzkova and Sara Sorribes Tormo approached the chair umpire to highlight that the ball girl was crying. The supervisor was then called to the court and the decision was made to disqualify the pair. Disqualifying Kato and her partner, Aldila Sutjiadi of Indonesia.
However, the following day she went back to the court to play mixed doubles with Tim Pütz and made her way into the finals! She further went on to win the finals. During the winning speech she said: “But I’m looking for a positive outcome for my appeal. So I can receive my points & prize money.” Despite The rule book stating: “In all cases of default, the decision of the referee in consultation with the grand slam chief of supervisors shall be final and unappealable.” However, with the overwhelming support from the audience and fellow players, her fans are still hoping that she wins her appeal.

That ball girl if she's so scared of a ball being passed to the other side of the court shouldn't be a ball girl at 1 of the biggest tennis tournaments

She already had two balls in her hands, so she couldn't just catch it, and then probably saw it late. I don't see how you fckwits think its the ball girls fault they got DQ'd.

The girl started crying AFTER the vicious pair started appealing to the referee making a mountain out of a molehill, involving the disqualification and loss of $26,000 for Kato. The girl indeed ought to have been more observant (while Kato could have been more careful), but she was simply horrified that her carelessness led to such a disaster for Kato and Sutjiadi.

If you notice, Miyu faced Aldila Sutjiadi, her partner in women double that got disqualified, in French Open mixed double semifinal. So you know the quality of both players, and why their opponents insisted so much for them to get disqualified, because Tormo and Bouzkova simply wanted to have free ticket in women double quarter final.

Kato never hit the ball girl. The ball girl saw the ball coming and instead of catching chose to dodge it and later did a Sookie lala. US Open ball kids are way beter and up to scratch, well trained and not act like they're Disney princesses.

Just saw this. Don't know any of the players, so I'm being entirely objective. People most at fault here: the two UNINVOLVED opposing players who had the unprofessional gall to demand that their opponents be disqualified for such an innocent mishap. They must've had some personal hatred of their opponents behind it all. There's no other way to explain it, except the "winning at all costs" mentality superseded professional courtesy and common sense. Second, the two officials: Talk about overreaction. If they had seen what happened WHEN it happened, no way in the world would they have reached such a stupid, unwarranted decision. They're the ones who should be disqualified from future matches. Lastly, the ball girl herself: Let's give her an Oscar for her ultra-dramatic performance after she was "wounded" by a lethal projectile, the tennis ball, launched by a deadly tennis racket. I'm surprised the two officials didn't call for an ambulance to get her to the nearest hospital. Was she perhaps later awarded the "Purple Heart" for her injury under fire? Note to ball girl: If you ever get a similar assignment again, remember Rule #1: KEEP YOUR EYES ON THE F - - - - - - BALL!

I only just noticed in this video, that ball girl reacted before the ball even hit her, and ducked. from the looks of it, the Baal girl started to duck when the ball was at the baseline. so there was fair warning for her to receive the ball. It is unfortunate that she got hit despite the fair warning to catch the ball or divert it. how can the tournament management disqualify the players for that.

another of many bad decision at RG This year 'Buzkova and Toro had a very, very poor behaviour going straight to the empire. They did't care at all how was the ball girl. The °hitting° of Kate looked much moe e pas than an intentional hit. Would have been enough to review the images on screen to understand it. Now, everybody is sorry that a girls was injured and that she was in pain but this doesn't mean that the player should have been disqualified' POOR DECISION
