It takes a few minutes sometimes for the powder to react to the water and inflate the tube. I “heard” that it takes longer in saltwater than in freshwater. I had seen this demonstrated once before and the demonstrator thought it was defective. It took about five or six minutes in water and then started to inflate.

Sierra you are such a nut! Good video for marginally effective products. Trust your experience and am gonna get something for my keys.

If you have a heavy car key fob, the foam float has to be the size of a chipmunk

Thank you for this review. Maybe a video on how you were able to repair the autopilot? New rudder video, are they living up to your expectations? Engine repairs I hope!

Definitely a great Merchandise opportunity. I would rep a Tulas float on my 68 13ft bwhaler.

    1. give me a good old fashioned piece of wood painted neon orange
2 could you please repeat your analysis as Sierra was distracting me .
    3. do ever respond to negative people who are either jealous or too lazy to experience and enjoy life

The Key Buoy works! I tossed my car keys to my daughter while on the dock........and she dropped them in the water. She blames my toss; I blame her catch. In any event, as we stood there looking down at the water we saw little bubbles coming up and then the buoy with the keys. YAHOO!!!! I bought mine at West Marine.

Was it the Davis instruments one? How Long did it take to come to the surface from when it touched the water?? Thanks for the feedback!!

@@TulasTechTalk It was a Davis Instruments and it probably took 3 - 5 minutes. It took at least 2 minutes before we started seeing the bubbles rise to the surface and then shortly after the orange tube came up. I can't remember how many keys I had on the ring. I'm guessing 3 - 4 with an F150 key and remote being one of them. I appreciate you guys doing these test.

Both of these products require a few minutes to activate because they rely on a chemical reaction.

The other thing I think about is drift. Often when something has gone in the water I have been able to retrieve it quickly if it is floating from the get go with a net. The longer I have to wait for it to surface, the more likely I am to have to go find it which isn't always so easy whether it has resurfaced or not.

The getter back may need time for something to dissolve before it releases.....

  • @WRMannIII

As is often the case, simple is better. Best solution seems to be limiting the weight of key ring (i.e. - skip the heavy key holders) and use a sealed float. I certainly wouldn't want to trust my keys to one of the tested devices (that failed) just to save a small bit of space in my pocket. Personally, I don't carry my boat keys with me but instead hide them inside a locker that can be accessed w/o a key. Also, when going ashore and carrying other keys such as for the car and/or house I'm careful to put them inside a deep pocket before going near the water. :-)

If a person has a heavy car key fob, then a foam float would have to be the size of a chipmunk, that's what the inflatable buoys avoid.

if you still have the orange float try leaving in water longer it may need so time for the water to get into mixture for the co2...and is it for fresh or saltwater? salt may have messed up the reaction

NO, they are a waist of money. They come apart in your pocket. Foam fob is better.

That's a great review. I have looked at these before and probably won't bother, they look like junk. I don't believe you can beet a normal float.

Now test the little rubber float with the keys. When you do that will the rubber float have enough buoyancy to keep your keys up.. Also the Getter Back has a picture of a drone...would strapping rubber floats on your drone be better. Please don't use your drone for any test.

Took way too long to get to the conclusion that both items are junk and would be totally unreliable as a safeguard for valuable keys whilst on the water. Stick to the normal tried and true flotation attachments. And the wife or girlfriends needs to be kept out of view, also, with her stupid gestures, whilst he is trying to do a professional job on the video! 😎 💥💥💥
