How Hard is Upside Down (Lime) Plastering? | Portugal House Renovation
Вставка
- Опубліковано 16 вер 2024
- We've been cracking on with some bits and pieces projects downstairs in our Portugal house renovation. First up I mixed a bit of lime plaster to outline the pointed stone wall to start the process of blending it in. I also try my hand at upside down plastering in one of the doorway reveals. Stick around to see how I get on...

Not far off 100,000 subscribers. Not bad for a tent in the garden for sleeping and showing the world how it can be done. It's always lovely to see you post a video. The best of luck with everything.
Yeah, better start planning a celebration video! 🎉❤
Wow, you handle all the limeworks with real (deserved) confidence! I particularly love the rounded corners of the door reveals. 😁👍
Your work on the plaster wall is a work of art. Those stones look magnificent.
You both are masters of plastering. The stone wall is a beautiful piece of art.❤
I just love how you both keep the whole process authentic. This place is going to be stunning!
It’s not a disappointment, it’s a learning experience. Looking so much brighter.
this is one way to know every inch of your home....
I remember stumbling across this channel and binge watching every video. Now you're just a couple of month's away from being able to finish the first floor.
Glad you stuck with it
Buhbye ❤
Oh this is such a LOVELY surprise to get this installed g today!!! Wasn’t expecting anything until the weekend again. THANK YOU (& it all looks amazing!!!)
Please,Guy, there is no need for a sorry. You showed us what you did and you did it well. Thanks for the video.
The music in this video is just fabulous! Thanks!
It's never disappointing to watch you and Kyle
I had to laugh, you sounded so surprised when it went so well. Hope you are both well. We love catching up with what's happening at your place.😊
The Overhead Plastering was nicely done. Have a good week 😊
Wow!!! Plastering details are amazing!! GREAT job!! 👍😊👍🌟✨️👏👏👏👏
I have never seen people as talented as you too are and, artist as well. Amazing what you have done till now, amazing 🤩
GUY, Looking great, the room is so much brighter. You guys are doing a wonderful job 🎉
Beautiful! I like the rounded edges -- looks very authentic.
You have the Lime rendering down to a T now nice job
Hooray for small wins. I like it.
You two have such patience, it’s truly admirable. 😊
Love the way you're sort of disappointed it went so well
Not bad rendering! You’re becoming quite an expert with the trowel!
Got team lime. Love watching you guys work. It's looking great.
Short & sweet and to the point.
Seems like you're coming right along with your plastering skills, Guy. Looking good.
Love the Portugal Homestead. Y'all are like pioneers - living the dream. Living the Dream.
It's so nice to see another video this week! The plastering is going so well. I'm glad you were disappointed that there was no failure! Perhaps not overworking leads to better outcomes? Curving the plaster around the stones gives a beautiful, more natural looking effect. The rooms are really coming together! Another job beautifully completed!!
A few more coats and you're going to end up with a room that is less than 2 meters square. But, by that time, you'll really have got the hang of plastering....
❤I really love watching y’all work! You’re both amazing people! ❤❤
Good luck is always acceptable.❤
Well done, Guy😊
Thanks for the bonus video. Am happy it worked out perfectly xx
I know…what a lovely surprise!
Hope there’s more weekday drops …even if they’re only short…it’s lovely to get updates. Made.my.day!
That was wonderful. I just see beauty and growth.
A delightful surprise to get this video. Thank You.
We had an old traditional lime plasterer to do all our work in a previous (listed) house. His father was also a plasterer in the 1920's and he finished around the door frames and windows with a sort of uptick pleat which looked really good. You have done an amazing job, well done. Thanks for the vlog.
No disappointed it looks great
Still so rewarding to watch, thank you.
Great video. Upside down anything is unpredictable- you aced it.
Great job on the plastering 👍
There's something Zen about pointing sone walls, a bit like doing a penance maze. 😊
You made it look easy and did a great job.
Beautiful work
I love watching you lime plastering
Looking fabulous!
The mixture around the stone looks creamier.
It was like the two steps up was one step too high!!
Looks great. Your attention to detail is always impressive!
Hugs from 🇨🇦
A good day, it went well.
Wonderful video, thank you. I see you have more subscribers, I am very pleased.
You've become a master of the mix. I was relieved it worked out.
Here is a quick tip on plastering in corners. When doing any edges, corners etc, start off with a thin line of plaster along the edge of your trowel. You can do this by sliding the trowel along the edge of the hawk to create a thin ridge. Then delicately place the trowel into the corner, press it, and slide it back and forth before drawing it away from the edge. Then do this again with a normal trowel load to get more plaster on the wall/ceiling.
The reasons I do it this way are:
1. Too much plaster on the trowel in a corner can cause plaster to squeeze out onto the other surface.
2. Sliding the trowel back and forth presses the plaster into the corner, ensuring good coverage and adhesion, and making later tidying up easier.
3. Whenever you apply plaster and pull the trowel away you always create a little suction, which will pull some of the plaster away from your starting point. This is always evident in corners, where even if you have a lot of plaster on the trowel to start with, you'll notice that some of it pulls away from the corners as you move the trowel away, due to suction. By using a little less plaster, AND by sliding the trowel back and forth, you make sure the plaster stays in the corners.
And always avoid having the plaster along the full length of the trowel, as the stuff at the ends will just fall off.
😃
*Kia ora Guy well done.... nothing fell off, so that is a win win 🙂nz*
What a great job your doiñg
Good job!!! 🥰🎶❤️🙏🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🏡
Wells done 😊

Beautifully done. Tedious work I imagine but you sure have learned so much 🇨🇦👵👏
Loving the bonus video 😍
Goodness you are good to take on this layering work and doing a great job of it too. Best wishes
It's probably called overhead plastering, but upside down describes it very well.
Looks grand 👍
What a nice surprise! I didn't expect on video on Monday night. Never mind interesting. I much rather see you succeed. If there's a mishap, then it's a consolation that you at least managed to get an interesting videos out of it but this was a win for you and a win for us.
I like the tune that starts at 2:30. it sounds quite appropriate for what you are doing, what is it called? We can't wait to see what you both have each week. We are constantly amazed at the progress and how you both research deeply about the applications you use.
You guys work so darn hard. Please take it easier on yourselves. Would love to see some videos about the area in which you live
I have nothing to say really, but I appreciate your content, and wish to help with the yt-algorithms.
In the American vernacular, "Ya done good!"
What a long process when you said another 2 coats to go wow .....I watched a French couple Atelier Mavi they did it in 2 coats, a stone house I think in the Italian alps he's a French architect. It's looked the same product.
Revestimentos paredes muito bom, mas isolamento dos tetos e portas e janelas será a parte mais difícil.
When you are pointing an interior wall with some stones deliberately exposed, right at the edge where a pointing ribbon meets a stone, what is your objective? Do you want the pointing to be as thin (flat) as possible to expose more stone, or do you try to thicken the pointing so as to "sink" the stone further in?
Looks good
That looks good. You will have some decent arm muscles by the end of these plastering sessions.
Looks great, Guy❤
Looks good!!
Easy isn't it Guy? Gotta love upside down Plastering 😅😂❤
Good luck you will manage it
Brilliant plastering. Only I just got a neri my bonnet, where are your kittens and how are they doing?
Oh the disappointment of success!! How will one learn?❤😂😊
❤❤❤❤❤❤
I still said 'bye' at the end 😂
❤
Hi I’m from Nepal. I want to renovation old house and I want eco friendly renovation I enjoy your video. Can you suggest what is the ratio of lime and fine dust, is the plaster is strong like cement and what is the age of lime plaster . Thank you
I wore my "Some Time Has Passed" to my doctors appt. yesterday! She came in, read my shirt and said "That shirt gives me a complex, like I kept you waiting too long!!" ~ Then laughed! I told her, "I'll wear my other one next time. It says 'More Time Has Passed'"! 😊 I wish the "Undo Redo" shirt in 'Mens' sizes were offered through your store. Do you know if it will be?? Thank you!
😂 how funny!
Is this the one you were after: makedogrow.teemill.com/product/mens-undo-redo-t-shirt/
@@MAKEDOGROW Yes, but I need at least a 3x. It's weird, others go up to 3x/4x but not this one! I could get the "ctl-x/y" but I'd have to explain all the time! Thank you! I sure enjoy your channel!
@@kwells8807 it seems to related to the colours, only some go up that far, denim blue for example. Do you have a particular colour choice? If so, we can try to find the closest match in the size you need
@@kwells8807 and love the ctl x/y comment 😂 …. most of our friends wouldn’t get it either!
@@MAKEDOGROW - Oh I see. It's available in sizes 3x-5x in Denim Blue. I'd prefer Slate Grey but I can order the Blue one. Thank you for pointing that out to me. 😊
Well Done that was a bit of anti climax????....... easy peeezy....for the master
Maybe your just getting really good at plastering!
You made it like you was going to to do surgery on a patient 😂
One day you may actually get to lounge in your lounge are 😅
👍❤️🇦🇺
That's not what I expected from an extra video.
Guy, you are allowed to skip the "undo, redo" portion of Make, Do, Grow.
At the beginning... 1. making art 2. making wall mounted pan cakes 3. doing plastic surgery on "the things" back side.
"upsidedown plastering"😂
Where is Kylie ?
Outside mixing stuff. 😂
8:20 you sound very disappointed....
That must be the Bain of your life lime plaster 😢
But why don't you get pre-formed corners that simplify your work and give a much better result?🤔🤔
