Looking back, wasn't €70,000 too much for this property? What is your opinion? On the first floor almost only the outer walls remained standing. You really started with so much enthusiasm. This work would cost an enormous amount of money if it were done by a construction company. The result would certainly not be as satisfactory for you. You have done this with dedication until now. I'm very excited to see the video of you moving in. You have to hurry because I'm 75 years old and I look forward to seeing you every week.

We don’t think it was too much, because it’s more than just the house we bought. It’s an acre of land, which is almost all flat and is 100% usable, in a great location with lots of amenities (supermarket, banks, doctors, restaurants) only 5mins away, and there are 2 buildings to renovate.
Doing it ourself and at the speed we can do has definitely helped the budget too 😃

Maybe it was a lil bit expensive back in the day but even if they didnt do anything the property would be at least 150k by now. Everything increased prices, even complete ruins in the middle of nowhere its crazy. Damn you english, french, germans and brazilians buying everything LOL

Hi. I don't think you paid too much for it, today you would easily pay much over the 100k...I Wish you all the best you got yourselves a sub, from a possible neighbor, Portugal is an awesome country, we Portuguese people don't realize it much, we just live a simple life, work hard, raise a family, buy a cheap house(if you already bought a car), retire, raise grandson's and die forgotten, by everyone you cared and loved during life...we are poor basterds who get mugged every single day, by our dear Good friend Prime minister...we struggle a whole life to buy this, or that, but at the end we own nothing, or even if we own we won't be using it for a long time, retiring at 67yrs...sorry for ruining your positive comments here...I just feel sad, because it's gonna be my ending, I'm a 38 yrs old father of two, that feels depressed, about everything, life is so hard, our governments, our rulers who ever the hell run everything, just need us to fulfill their objectives, this shitty wars, they don't care, this crisis on housing market, financial crises because of the war, and the gas prices, I mean come on let a man life a humble but honorable life. I'm good in life I can't say I'm bad, but I see so many people not having a fair one. Again sorry and thank you for making this video it just proves my point that Portugal is the best country for welthy people, retired people and for criminals 😞✅👍 I see no future ahead that ends positive...what world will I leave for my daughter's as heritage??? Cheers and Why So Serious?😂

I'm embarrassed to say I've been a viewer that's been chomping at the bit saying "get to the reno, get to the reno"!
However after seeing the last 3 yrs of reno work. I'm glad you have gardening, cooking and preserving, traveling your area and site seeing, eating out, crocheting, visiting with family and putting them to work and wine tasting as well as film making in your life! This is more then just a project you share! To keep up the work one needs diversions otherwise we lose motivation. Thank you for sharing your life it's much appreciated!

Kylie mentioned the lintels and stonework combination over all the openings. Does that mean every single one has to be "redone" with new lintels etc?. It's the exterior, but it's important for the interior space too.
Stone buildings take much longer to do, but the results are much better, last so much longer.
Where I am houses built now only are warranteed for 15 years. That's nuts when mortgages are up to 35 years.
You will have a gem for a home, outlasting all these "new houses" by decades.

  • @Scotty7268

did the house have all that furniture, bedding etc, still there after 20 years? Initially did you think you could live in the house? Have you, at any stage, thought this is too much? it was exhausting watching this extraordinary project. I found tears in my eyes every time you found more rotten timber, I just wondered how you felt. I hope you manage a warm room for the coming winter. Bless you.

    • @MAKEDOGROW
      @MAKEDOGROW  Рік тому +16

Yes, everything was left behind … almost felt like they just walked out one day and never came back. There was even food in some of the cupboards.
We never thought we could live in the house in the condition it was in, but we definitely underestimated the amount of work required.
And almost daily we ask ourselves why we’re doing this crazy project 😂🤣😂

Easier to wash 3 tons of Little Rock’s in a cement mixer. Out water and then rocks and let them turn for a few minutes and put fresh water in and turn again. Clean rocks 😘

I love the fact that the walls are not perfectly straight or flat, that is a plus for an old house. And you do have an amazing partner, not afraid of doing hard work!

Wow. We're in awe. We're relative newbies to the channel..we didn't realise you had to take the place back so far...Was that a surprise? You're so tidy and your attention to detail is very inspiring. Thx for sharing your story..

So cool to see things taking form.. You are at a point where one can much more clearly see what the house is going to look like when you‘re done! Kudos to the amount of muscle and patience you put into everything! I have enjoyed watching the journey so far and will enjoy the journey from this point forward. Greetings from Germany 😊

A-M-A-Z-I-N-G. Watching you guys doing it all again. Now you are putting things right and your home will see you through till you are old and grey. Did you think this was the task when you bought it? However I am in awe.
