I think that's what I would have gone for if I were to use that area as a sort of storage area + presentation area. 14:09 Yeah, I'm liking Kyle's layout more than the one I explained just above this line, I think he's definitely onto something good there.

For my homelab, I mounted to the wall behind/under my desk some long power strips from menards (SKU 3705693). 9 outlets each, and really helped with managing the power cables. I also have them connected to a UPS, which makes me feel much more comfortable doing BIOS updates.
You should invest in a whole building surge protector to protect all of the expensive hardware. Also, some UPS too for things like the networking cabinet and work stations to add extra redundancy.
Most buildings in the last 50 years have whole-building surge protection. That's what fuse boxes and breaker boxes are for. Also the power comes from next door to Kyle where surely it's not just raw electricity being piped in with no regulation. A UPS is never a bad idea for vital hardware - definitely the editing PC needs one. The cabinet could use one too yeah.
I enjoy almost all the content of the tech youtubers out there but actually my favorite Vlogs are yours. I don't know but your vlogs are the most entertaining of all the channels
You should get a PDU for that network cabinet, that will give you the extra power ports like the power strip but you can rack mount it to keep everything organized. There should be openings or cutouts to route cables in/out of that network cabinet without having to mod it. You can also replace that network plate behind the large cabinet with one that has angled connectors to protect the cables and have more space as you can press the cabinet further to the wall. Good to see the new set come to life.
Think about a security cage wall for the hardware. The studio is going to be nice. A window between the kitchen/breakroom and studio would have been nice.
Maybe you could do a timeline along the back of your set from when you built your first pc or when you got interested in pcs so you can see how far you've come and how far pcs in general have come
3:53 - There are some knock-out panels at the top of that box above your cabinet, don't go drilling a hole into the door when there's already some panels you can knock out and accomplish the same thing! Just get a rubber grommet or two to protect the cables from the edge of the hole and use that.
The new studio is looking good so far. I have two suggestions: 1) That front room is going to get hot. If not done already, tint the windows. That'll also add privacy. 2) Carpet the floor. That'll cut down on echo and save your knees. If you're not going to carpet immediately (or ever) I suggest buying a rubber mat like they use in restaurant kitchens.
I think a massive working water loop on the back wall of the set would look dope. Diving in and out of shelves and cases and tools and stuff. Incorporate the loop into a workshop style background.
Cool vid. I do however have a suggestion/opinion. I happen to like the lighting from Paul's Hardware videos. Paul's videos for me at least, have a soft tone when it comes to lighting. I personally find industrial fluorescent lights tend to be harsh or tough on the eyes at times. Probably you may want to consider a softer light for future videos? Paul's videos when it comes to lighting is easy on my eyes at least. They have a friendly/homey feel to them lol.
i love these kind of videos that you make, it's like going back to the old swesomesauce network days where it was super chill, and just having fun. Don't get me wrong, i love the new style of videos as well, but it's just nice to sit back and watch these vlogs .
Nice plans! - on that wall you want to make along the left side of the set. I suggest you get like 3 shelf units. Just 12" or so deep (one layer of product) and line them up where you want the wall. Then you can attach some thin plywood along the back of the shelf units. This gives you a wood back wall to attach decor to, and more shelf space in the product storage area. Its sturdy, but also very easy to tear down in the future. One last thing, that mobile cart looks great! I suggest you have a a small computer system on it as well. So you can plug the peripherals into. Then you have a complete system you can roll around. Then with a build, you just swap the cables over. Maybe fit some build tools and diagnostic equip on it also. Cheers!
Grab a box of carpet square tiles to put under the tables, sound deadening and comfort, not sure if you'd be on your feet for hours on end. A simple transition to go from the carpet to concrete. Instead of gluing the squares down use some floating carpet tile tabs, they're sticky tabs used to hold it all together.
Kyle, Go to Home Depot or even Lowes and go to their countertop section. There they will have butcher block countertops made of solid birch. Not garbage particle board with a fake walnut veneer. IKEA is literal trash... And they will probably cost the same or cheaper. I think a 96" x 25" costs around $250 each. They also sell 6' and 4' versions. You can then go to the paint section and get any color stain/finish you want and make it your own. I would recommend a stain with a Polycrylic clear coat. This method does require more work but its fun work and you will appreciate it more and it will be more original. I am a custom woodworker for my full-time job and this is what I recommend.
For the display desk, it'd be cool if you have wood planks going across the front of the desk with your logo on it. Then you can add additional shelves under your display table for more storage.
Not sure if you've thought about lighting in the filming and editing areas, but i've just recently done a lot of research into the topic. High CRI stuff in the editing room and filming areas, neutral grey walls and ambient lights matter a lot for good color. One thing you can do to limit the legs on the long wall is screw 2x4's to the wall with lag screws into the studs to act as a brace for the table top to sit on. Then you'll just need a few single legs along the front edge. and if the back tables are going to stay static, you can fix them together pretty easily and that'd make sure they stay even. I'm currently remodeling my studio and going through the all the same stuff. If you need any help, i have tons of resources.
Another idea for area between the desks, would be to install what so many bars have with the flip up counter top that you can drop back down and have space when needed, or flip it up and out of the way when going in and out of the working area. As for background, would be nice to see some RGB tubes you can adjust the light with (like what Jay did in his new set up)
That computer cart reminds me of being in high school and the teacher had requested a CRT and VCR be wheeled into the classroom.
Yep. It's just an A/V cart with a keyboard tray. :)
