They were interesting early rocket planes, but I don't think they were ever a great success. I don't think it was possible for them to be as long as they relied on the highly explosive binary fuel.
In terms of aerodynamic and aviation research it was very significant, so I suppose you could say successful in that sense… in terms of military usefulness, not very… It is an intriguing aircraft, no question…. a non powered replica has been made in Germany, there is a u tube video of it gliding, it flies beautifully….
Ah yes, the pilot liquefier... Fuel that will quickly dissolve anything organic in a system that leaks in a plane prone to flipping onto its back during landing. Oh yeah, and the engine liked to cut out right after takeoff. Also, you were wrong about the accident. The plane hit a flack tower not a radio tower and the plane didn't explode on landing, the pilot was dissolved by the fuel.
Great work, great video, i would love to see more activity on Plane Enclyopedia.
Great video!
Grat work with the video!
The later Me 163 versions would actually see great success!

They shot down 16 aircraft and liquefied several of their own pilots. We have different definitions of success.
