1981 Mintex Rally

The 1981 British Open Rally Championship opened with the Yorkshire based Mintex Rally. There are strong challenges from Tony Pond (Vauxhall Chevette) Jimmy McRae (Opel Ascona) and Per Eklund (Toyota Celica) but its the Ford Escort which proves supreme.

Great video. Happy memories. Was chase car for car 27 Peter Ripley / Ian North. Remember Dere Street debacle. Cars stopped coming through just before our car was due out the stage. That was it for an hour.
Russell Brookes came out with a front left puncture. Service crew was waiting for him. Were working in the dark, so shone them some light.
