There are a lot of facts about Gilligan's Island...I recommend the books "Here on Gilligan's Isle" by Russell Johnson (The Professor), and "Inside Gilligan's Island" by Sherwood Schwartz
But the mysteries include why some of them brought luggage for a 3-hour tour, why Mary Ann chose to wear 1-inch heels on a boat ride, why none of them lost weight, and what the Skipper, the Professor and Gilligan wore while their clothes were being washed.
@@GeminiladyJackson-xq6hc Cassandra Peterson aka Elvira was nearly cast as Ginger Grant in the 3rd Gilligans Island tv movie but she was removed from the production before filming began. @SuperMarioBrosIII Fun Fact: Bob Denver and Jim Backus appeared together in a 1959 film, A Private Affair. Trivia Champion 🏆, I hope that you will have a blessed day.
I think they did need Ginger’s character and thought Tina Louise did a good job but how petty that it was because of her contract that the other two names were initially left out. I don’t know why she would have thought the show would revolve around her. It’s not “Ginger’s Island” after all.

Bob, do you think Tina Louise acting career was more prestigious than several of the other castaways. I know that Alan Hale jr, Bob Denver, Russell Johnson and Jim Backus had been in several movies and tv shows prior to Gilligans' Island..

@@GeminiladyJackson-xq6hc Yes!! I think I mentioned Tina Louise, Dawn Wells, Bob Denver, Russell Johnson and Sherwood Swartz all appearing on the post credits to Roseanne. Dawn Wells and Tina Louise appearing in a Jeopardy tv commercial as themselves. Happy Holidays and New Year!
In hindsight , I wonder if the show would have been better if Tina Louise had missed the boat entirely! LOL! Maybe they should've cast someone else as Ginger like Raquel Welch. I read somewhere that Raquel Welch did try out for Mary Anne, but imagine if Welch played Ginger?
It was a fun show. Suppose Tina had left. Would she get rescued and someone else take her place? We later saw a similar plot on the original Land of the Lost. The father escaped, only to be replaced by Uncle Jack. Gunsmoke had been on for 12 years. Its legacy was already established. But things would be different if its original cancellation had stuck. One reason would be only the 12th season being in color. The early seasons were also half hour episodes. Those got rerun separately as Marshal Dillon. Apparently, Sherwood Schwartz's deal wasn't that iron clad. Nowadays the show might have gone on hiatus. It would return once another time slot was available. Some might have shopped it to another network. Or they could have done a movie with them being rescued. How ironic that what considered to be a silly show was meant to be political. These folks were different but had to get along. If the show had taken place a few years later we might have seen more diversity. Note that all of them were white. TV probably wasn't ready just yet.
@orangehornet57 Yes that was the plan as a season 4 episode scripts were greenlit and one episode would have had Ginger rescued by Titanic Jr. and in turn two more bombshells would be morooned on the Island to take her place LOL! They did get rescued in Rescue From Gilligans Island but they would end up being back on the Island at the end of the movie LOL! 🚢🏝📺🛖
I never heard of Tina Louise before Gilligan's Island. I bet there were a 100 actresses that could have done that role.
Jayne Mansfield was the original choice to play Ginger but she turned it down.
Not only was Tina Louise NOT the star, she was not a fan favorite...Dawn Wells received more fan mail than all the other actors COMBINED!!!!!
I feel Tina Louise would have been better off written out of the show, since she thought the show should revolve around her.
She could've been eaten by a shark.

I always just figured they had another set of clothes in case they had an accident on one of their tours and had to change their 'uniform'.
It's just a TV show not to be taken seriously.

Amazing show .shared
I did not know these things, especially the political part of it. Good video Bob, thanks.
Sounds like she was the Robert Reed of Gilligan's Island - one who wanted to do serious roles.
Thank you sir, I didn't know it was going to be political
Mary Ann was the fan Favorite

I never heard Sherwood claim it was political. He mentioned that each character was one of the seven sins.
That is correct...I read it in his book!
